...
Mayura had given up.
She was no longer searching for her mysterious acquaintance from a little while ago, even though she missed him more than anything.
His innocent smile, those mesmerizingly purple eyes and the sweet sound of his laugh whenever she insulted him.
The villian woman missed 'Moth boy' from all aspects, even though he was dedicated to save another woman.
Mayura still couldn't get him off of her mind, no matter how hard she tried.
But now as it was getting late, no one was awake, and barely any car lamps flashed light into those empty streets of the City, the woman decided to make her way home.
'Her acquaintance wouldn't show anyway', she thought while sighing in a depressed tone.
However, as Mayura was about stand up, she suddenly heard footsteps coming from not so far, and before she knew it a tall, lean figure sat beside her.
"Hello." He spoke "Mayura, right?"
"Y-yes-" the woman stuttered, being unsure of whom she had the pleasure of talking to, except the second which her eyes met his, she recognized the man.
"Mothy boy! It's you!"
The woman cheered up making the villian beside her laugh who found his own nickname quite hilarious. Especially coming from the usually mean and insulting bird lady.
"It is indeed Mothy boy you're talking to" He winked "I'm back, better than ever!"
"Really?" Mayura giggled whilst not breaking eye contact with her partner who found this guesture quite attractive, even though he shouldn't have been thinking such things.
But the lady with the power of emotions got him totally messed up.
"Are you really better than before?" Her voice brought him back "How come? What improvements have been made Hawky? Tell me."
"I-...I-...well-"
"What?" She grinned seeing the man beside her struggle to speak and instead stutter nervously.
She liked to believe that it was her effect on him which caused this, therefore Mayura planned to continue.
"Cat got your tongue?" She giggled "Or you're just too shy to tell it to me? Hmm? What is it now?"
"I-I-I h-haven't made any noticeable improvements, b-but-...but I've gotten my hopes up for winning! And I'm positive that in the next few days I'll be able to make significant changes!"
"I-oh-"
This wasn't exactly what she would've liked to hear.
Again the woman he was so obsessed over was the main subject of the conversation, causing Mayura herself to feel very left out and hurt.
But of course, she could've thought that he didn't just move on.
"W-well-...I'm happy for you Mothy, I hope things go your way."
"Thank you. I also wish the best for you." The man smiled when he turned his head to the side in order to look at his villian friend, however by the time that he did so, the woman was gone from her spot.
"May?" He called out.
"I'm here." A quiet voice answered from behind "But I'll go now, it's almost dawn and I have work tomorrow, so it's best if-"
"Are you sad?"
Suddenly the villain appeared beside her, making Mayura jump, also almost fall if it wasn't for the strong arms of her friend to catch her and pull the woman back.
"Are you offended by what I've said?"
He asked, glaring into her ill looking eyes with a serious expression that had her feeling tense.
"W-what?" Mayura uttered nervously "Why do you say that?"
"I can sense emotions. Remember?"
"O-oh fuck." She sighed "I-...I totally forgot."
"Well either way, you don't need to pretend to be happy around me because I'll know if you're lying or not, and eventually I will find out what you truly feel."
"G-great, wonderful. I think I should really go though-"
"But wait!" He grabbed her hand, like that stopping the woman who gasped in shock as she turned to look at him.
"What?! What do you want?!" Mayura spat with hatred which Hawk Moth could clearly sense. He simply didn't know what he'd done wrong to deserve the poor treatment.
"I-...why are you sad?" The man questioned "You still didn't answer me."
"Oh and what does that matter?! I-it's personal!"
"Regardless of that I would like an explanation because you became sad the second that I said something. So it's my fault and I want to know why!"
"Being nosy isn't nice!"
"Being secretive around friends also isn't nice!"
To that the woman's colorful eyes widened.
'Friends' he said...except she didn't know why.
It wasn't exactly clear that them two were friends. However, did Hawk Moth think otherwise? Since he very obviously used that word to describe their relationship.
Anyway, Mayura shook her head in disbelief before asking:
"We're friends?" She wondered.
"We're enemies?" The man asked in return.
"Are we on bad terms?"
His lilac eyes sparkled in the glow of the pale moonlight, almost having his 'friend' completely amazed by how gorgeous he stared down at her. Even despite being very intimidating by his height and figure, to her he was just the most beautiful thing she's come across in quite a while.
"May?" Hawk Moth's pleasant voice brought her back into reality "Are you listening?"
"I-"
"I asked if you consider us enemies." He began, the villian's eyes once again shimmering in the lights of the night, however, this time before getting too lost in her imagination, the woman blurted out a straight forward answer to distract the both of them from her intensifying purple blush on her faint blue skin.
"We will be enemies if you don't stop bothering me with your ridiculous questions!" Mayura yelled "Leave me alone!"
The woman had turned her back to him and was ready to leave. She got prepared to jump onto another rooftop, yet before she could've done so, her 'friend' interrupted.
"May wait!" He shouted after her, unexpectedly stopping the bird lady "M-may please, I beg you!" Hawk Moth took ahold of her hand and held the villian in place.
"Please tell me."
"I-"
"If not fully, then just vaguely say what in me has offended you. I-I-I didn't mean to-...I never wanted to." He stuttered "You know I don't wish to upset you even though we are almost working against one another."
Mayura sighed, those words had made her get a bit emotional which the man beside her could probably sense, however Hawk Moth didn't point it out and instead simply waited until the villian woman had gathered her courage to explain herself.
"Hawky-" she began in a soft tone, looking up right into his eyes regardless of the fact that she knew she'd get lost in them "...I apologize.." she took his hands into hers "....I'm sorry for saying that I'd hurt you just to get the miraculous of Ladybug and Chat Noir...I didn't mean it..."
Hawk Moth gasped to the sound of that.
"What-"
"I mean I did-...b-because I wanted the power which comes with it b-but-..."
"But?"
She didn't respond.
The dark haired woman had frozen, she became motionless as if she was a statue, and because of this unusual reaction the man wanted to reach up to touch her face. But before he would've been able to do that Mayura unexpectedly smacked his hand away and quickly jumped back to distance herself from him.
"May!" Hawk Moth shouted "May what do you mean-"
"Forget about it!"
"What?"
"F-forget it! Forget that you've ever even met me! J-just forget this entire night!"
With that Mayura's eyes searched for an escape route, so when as predicted the man would run to catch her, she'd jump away.
And like expected Hawk Moth did indeed hurry to grab ahold of his 'friend' , but it was already too late.
The bird lady in a blink of an eye fled the scene swiftly, leaving no trace of where she'd gone.
"May!" It was already too late to shout.
She was far beyond his reach.
"May no!" Hawk Moth cried.
He fell to his knees once again in failure, yet now he had failed himself specifically, and not his wife or family.
Now it felt even worse to get outsmarted.
Now he'd lost his friend, maybe even their entire friendship.
Now it all disappeared into thin air.
Not only that, but the man still didn't get a proper answer to his question, and Mayura telling him to forget everything only complicated the situation.
He wasn't sure if he should've actually forgot, or if this would be the only memory of her which he could hold on to.
Either way, despite all the unexplained options, this night Hawk Moth had felt the worst of defeats.
So bad that he couldn't even leave the rooftop, he ended up staying until sunrise. Waiting if by any chance or accident she'd be back.
But she never was.
She never returned.
She was gone.
To be continued-...
