Ire's Pov

I groan as my phone rang, throwing the covers off me as I sauntered over to the couch to search for it in my trouser back pocket. I checked the screen to see who was calling and I was surprised by who it was.

"It's just 1am, what could be wrong?" I wondered. The phone starts to ring again as if to answer my questions.

"Hello." I picked up the call from Sam.

"Hello boss, there has been an incident at the hospital." He said in a hurry, his voice was winded as if he just finished running or was walking.

"What!" I exclaimed, the sleep clearing from my eye as I hurriedly pick up the jean from the floor.

"Don't take your eyes off her, stay with her at all moments. I'll be there soon." I said, dragging the jean to my waist.

"Understood." He said, ending the call as I quickly threw on a top and rush to my car. I call Richard on my way to the hospital and he promised to meet me there since his place was more closer to the hospital.

Throughout my drive to the hospital, I kept wondering what had happened and I also found myself unconsciously thinking if she would be shaken about the incident or if she'd raise her chin high and act bravely while she relay the story to Richard later.

To be honest, I hadn't really taken her case very serious. Yes, she had been shot but I felt she was just another one of the numerous celebrities thinking one of their enemy was after them again. I had concluded it was probably a stray bullet before passing on the case to the Investigation department.

Tonight events though changes that and I found myself getting more anxious as I press the pedal and increase my speed.

I arrived at the hospital just in time as Richard arrive, I greet him briefly before we rush upstairs.

"Is this the case you submitted to the department earlier?" He asked.

"Yes." I told him distracted.

"Alright, I just finished going over the report before you called." He told me as we got to the assigned room to Tutu.

The first thing I noticed on entering the room was her face, it was pale and she look shaken like she had seen a ghost.

"Looks like you really aren't doing your job well." My mind taunts but I ignore it as I grab the attention of the nurse and inform her that she'd have to leave the room. Ignoring Tutu, I glance at the open window and signal to Ayo and Sam to follow me leaving her alone in the room with Richard.

"Brief me." I said, simply as they fill me on what happened.

"Did you see anything useful like shoe prints or the face of the person to at least identify the gender." I asked them.

"No, but there were some shoe prints where the intruder landed when he left the room but he was already gone when we got down. I suspect he brought along a car because I saw a car leave suspiciously when I was about to get back inside." Sam said.

"Okay, we'd have to go and check that out now. As for the car, did you see the plate number?" I asked, my hope raising a bit.

"Maybe it isn't such a dead end after all." I thought.

"No, I didn't. There was no plate number at the back but I didn't get the chance to see the front." He replied.

"Shit!" I cursed.

"Maybe it such a dead end after all." My mind taunt again but I ignore it.

"Let's go check out the area he landed when he jumped." I said. Sam took the lead and we walk to the area, it was dark in that area and I had to switch on my phone torch to navigate to the area.

"How did the intruder even walk here without light." I mused.

"I wondered that too earlier." He said looking around cautiously. I bent down to look at the shoe prints as I shift my head, pondering over something.

"It's definitely a guy, the shoe prints are big and looks like a boot." I said, standing up after a few minutes.

"I thought so too." He replied as I search the area.

"Yeah but well, we aren't expert in that field so once Richard is done, make sure you bring him here to do his thing." I said. He nods and I lead the way back to the hospital.

"Call for more guys, we would need some guys outside If you say the intruder has a car. It would be a big benefit to us if we could find the plate number of that car." I ordered on getting to the front of Tutu's door.

Sam made the call before taking his position beside Ayo at the door. I lean against the wall giving Tutu and Richard some privacy as I ponder over the intruder.

Richard came out a few minutes later, that huge smile still on his face. I've always wondered if he ever frown since he was always smiling unless he lost a game of course, "He is a sore loser." I grinned at that thought as I shook my head, laughing lightly at a memory.

"You enjoying this case that much." He said, joining me by the wall.

"What do you mean?" I asked, confused.

"Well, you are smiling so I was starting to think you enjoy seeing the young lady suffer." He whispered the last part playfully.

"What's there to enjoy, her case is ruining my sleep. You know how much I hate not getting my beauty sleep." I played along. Chuckling, he shook his head at me before going to business.

"Full investigation on her case will start tomorrow, thankfully I don't have any main case at the moment but I'd need you to do me a favor." He said. I groaned in exasperation because I knew Richie asking for a favor meant something I wouldn't like to do. He doesn't ask for favors, he just ask you to do it and you do it. No question asked, he's a natural born leader.

"What is it?" I asked, resigned.

"Stop being a drama king jare, it's something very simple but I forgot to ask her and I would want to start working on it tomorrow even if I don't get to see her." He said as I sighed in relief.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Can you ask her to like write a list of people she thinks she might have offended that wants her dead. She should make it as specific and straight forward as possible." He said. I had a forlorn look on my face as I sigh.

"Really?"

"It's not that bad." He protested weakly.

"Knowing Tutu, it is." I said.

"So... you guys are on nickname basis now." He teased.

"Idiot, abeg move jare." I laughed, pushing him away.

"Alright, don't forget to ask shaa." He laughed as he start to walk away.

"Bye. Sam please lead him to the area." I said, opening the door to Tutu's room.

"Hey." I said, keeping my voice very light and open. I didn't want to scare her, her face still look pale even though she seem less scared. I felt an invisible burden rest on my shoulder as I take in her slightly shaking hands.

"Hi." She muttered quietly as I wonder if there was a drug the nurse could give her because she seem too quiet and it felt all wrong.

"I'll stay with you tonight then we will move you to a much safer room tomorrow." I offered quietly as I felt the comfortable silence hang over us in the room.

"I want to go home." She blurted out all of a sudden. She sounded panicky as If she had just realized something scary.

"You can't go home yet Tutu, you have to get better first." I said slowly, trying to make her feel better and safe.

"I want to go home." She said again.

"You can't go home yet Tutu, try to understand." I said again, trying to calm her down.

"Stop talking to me like I'm crazy!" She yelled.

"Call me Lewa right now, I'm going home." She added, sitting up when I didn't respond her. I was busy trying to think of how to deal with her.

"I can't call you Lewa or whatever her name is, it's 2:00am in the morning and if you are being considerate you would understand that people have to sleep. She has been here for 2 days, just because people work for you doesn't mean they have to die." I said, deciding to be honest and firm.

"I pay her, don't I!" She yelled angrily as she start to look for something around her. She finally found the lost object which turned out to be her phone and start clicking on it but her hands were shaking badly.

Her beautiful eyes became glassy and I found myself involuntarily placing my hands around her very small and warm hands as she start to cry.

"I'm scared, I'm really scared." She chants crying. With her small hands in mine, I felt an invisible urge to hug and protect her from harm's way.
