Chapter 5
The eldest of the brothers, who'd Pisces had learned was named Aries, sat with her in Gran's old study. She watched as he softly glided his finger across the signature on the letter, a nostalgic, secluded look in his eyes.
The other boys, three of them, hung out silently behind Aries' chair, occasionally glancing at her in the love seat across from him.
"This is definitely the Madam's signature," he said, suddenly, "without a doubt."
Pisces nodded, jumping slightly when he spoke. She'd been in almost a staring contest with the taller boy - who's name was apparently Scorpio - from before, she'd catch his eyes latched onto her face every time she looked at him and would proceed to stare until he looked away. His amber eyes seemed to flicker between a deep, coppery-gold and an almost fiery-red shade. But maybe that was just the candles that lit up the study that caused them to look like that.
"I didn't know she had any offspring. Forgive me for assuming we were the only ones left to inherit her belongings." He said.
Pisces quickly moved her eyes to lock with the eldest brother, his words processing in his brain a little slower than normal as she was still partly focused on Scorpio.
"Inherit? Are you relatives of my great grandmother?" She asked,
"Well, yes. Sort of." He replied, "She sort of adopted us, raising us in this house."
This came as a surprise to Pisces. She'd been here countless times and she didn't remember six boys living in the mansion.
Aries opened the drawer under his desk and took out a photo album, flipping through the pages before sliding out a picture to show her. It was a photo of her grandmother and six young boys in her garden. It was old and discoloured, slightly, with a dusty brown filter.
Pisces looked at the picture and then at all the faces of the boys, lingering on Scorpio.
"Well, now that you have proven to be the true legal owner of this place, what are you planning on doing with this place?" Aries asked.
And then it hit her, these boys had been here for a good chunk of their lives under the care of Gran. This was just as much of a home to them as it was to her, and she only ever came to visit rather than stay and grow up here. She couldn't possibly expect them to just leave without batting an eye. The boys seemed a little more anxious now that Aries had said what he said.
"Well, I still need some time to think about the future of this place." She said, sighing from the tiring trip she'd taken to get here, "For now, I'd simply like to go to my room and call it a night."
"Of course," Aries said slowly, "let me help you bring your stuff to your room and we can talk tomorrow."
Pisces rose from her love seat and stretched, her chest rising as she tried to take in as much oxygen in her lungs as possible. She could feel her heart rate quicken as she did that, and there seemed to be a pause taken by everyone in the room. Leo, the short boy, looked away, scratching his cheek.
All she wanted to do at this point was sleep and think about everything tomorrow.
