Chapter 13: A Visiting Admin (Part 1)

The admin's first stop was at False's pseudo-cyberpunk city. It wasn't too far from the shopping district, and the dark concrete tower came into view soon enough.

He flew around the structure for a few moments, looking to see if he could spot False working somewhere a long the edges or down in the bedrock pit. Instead he spotted the hermit down by her small starter shack, leaving with a shulker in her arms.

He glided down towards her, and she glanced up at the sounds - giving him a slight wave.

The male landed next to her, "Hey, False, how are you?"

She gave him a half-smile before walking back towards her base, "I'm fine. Thanks."

Xisuma blinked, "What are you doing?"

False pulled out a rocket, flying up into the area of the base she had recently constructed. It had caught Xisuma off guard for a moment, but he quickly followed her.

As he entered the area, he took in the new décor. There was an aquarium on one side, and the concrete walls had been sealed and finished. There was a large pile of chests over by the side wall, and both hermits made their way over to it.

False dropped down the shulker she was holding, and began to unload several others from her inventory.

"Moving," she finally answered Xisuma's question.

The admin blinked, tilting his head slightly as False began to pull items from the shulkers and look at them - before deciding where to shove them in her chests.

"Do you need any help?"

"Nope. I got it, thanks." She slammed one of the chests closed, sorting back through her variety of shulkers.

Xisuma watched for a moment longer. "Has... Stress been by? Are you eating alright."

"Yep, got plenty of food."

There was a pause before False walked by him, "X'cuse me," she said, and he stepped back as she opened the shulker next to him, before placing a few more between himself and her. She pulled out another item before walking back over to her chests.

"Are you sure you're alright?" Xisuma prodded again, looking over the wall of freshly placed shulkers boxes.

False let out a sigh and let another chest close with a slam. "I'm good, X, seriously. Don't you have something to do?"

Xisuma frowned, crossing his arms and leaning to one side. "I've been working. I'm taking a break to see how everyone is handling."

False nodded, making a noise of confirmation, "Well, I'm fine, you can go check on the others."

X hummed, "Well, I think coming here was a good first choice. You look exhausted, False, when was the last time you've slept?"

The other hermit sighed, crossing her arms and leaning to one side. "I'm fine, X. Seriously. I'm busy, can you go check on someone else."

"Have you eaten?"

She sighed, rubbing the bridge of her nose. "I've got food."

 "But have you eaten?"

False was silent for a moment, re-crossing her arms and rolling her eyes, "No. Not today."

The admin frowned, he plopped one his shulkers down and pulled out some steak. "Golden carrots get a bit boring," he added, stepping over one of the shulkers, "I need you to eat something."

False frowned, "I swear you're just as bad as Stress." She took the steak before turning back to her chests.

"False."

She sighed, pulling out the steak and eating it, before turning back to her chests. "Thanks, I'm good."

Now Xisuma sighed, only watching her for a moment longer. He wanted to ask her more - but she had eaten... and the more he pushed, the more he feared she's get angry. Upsetting the hermits further was the last thing he wanted to do.

"Alright... I'll, uhm, I'll see you later?" he offered tentatively.

"Sounds good. Seeya." Her voice was flat.

Xisuma tightened his elytra and pulled out a rocket, glancing to her one more time before taking off with a sigh.

He took off to Hypno's starter base and boardwalk - but the man was no where to be seen. He poked is head around the area but it didn't seem as though there were any signs of life.

With a frown, and a bit of anxiety, he headed past the shopping district to Cub's ever-growing pyramid. There was certainly no way Cub wasn't working on his base.

Surely enough, Xisuma spotted the hermit near the top of his temple, placing solid blocks of gold around the edges of the sandstone. With a smile, the admin dipped down and glided over to greet him.

Cub seemed happy to see the admin and gave him a wave before reaching out his hand as Xisuma landed. "It's good to see you out of your base!" he addressed.

The admin laughed, shaking his hand in return. "It's good to be out. TFC basically forced me, but, it's nice to see how the others are doing."

Cub nodded, placing a hand on his hip and hiding the gold back into his inventory. "Yeah, Stress stopped by yesterday morning and pestered me for a bit. She looked tired but seemed energetic as ever."

Xisuma nodded and made a sound of confirmation, "I sent her home a bit ago to rest."

Cub smiled, "That's good. How is she?"

"Fine, as far as I'm aware, a bit exhausted but I'm sure after a rest she'll be alright."

"That's good to hear," he sighed, "I wasn't sure how she'd take the news of Grian's death."

Xisuma flinched at the words, his smile dropping. "Ex.. Excuse me?"

Cub frowned, "He's dead, isn't he? No one just vanishes into the void for a week and lives. I assumed that's what you were really going around for. To let everyone know."

The admin's eyes widened and he shook his head. "N-no I..." he hesitated, thinking over his words. "I'm not sure what happened with him, but his code indicates he's still alive."

Cub hummed, "Because of the void, right? I'm upset too, X, believe me, but... the void can error code. That's it's whole thing, his code probably just hasn't updated yet."

There was a lapse in the conversation as Xisuma and Cub just stewed in the silence. Cub sighed after a moment as X struggled to find his words.

"Listen, Xisuma, I'm sorry. I'm not trying to be cold, it's just," he pause raising his hand to his chin in thought. "Death is a part of life. It's horrible, and I'll be there to help any hermits that need it. But I'm not going to linger on it for an eternity."

Xisuma sighed, he knew Cub wasn't an optimist, but he also knew the man had dealt with his fair share of tragedy and had practically practiced his own art of "moving on." He couldn't hold it against the man - but it still hurt to hear it.

"Hypno and xB stopped by on their way to Jevin's base, so I know where they are," Cub changed the topic, "I have a good idea of where the others all are, if you want."

The admin nodded, sighing lightly, "I would appreciate that."

"Cleo and Joe at his base, she stopped by on her way there as well. The NHO are together at Beef's city. Zedaph and Impulse are at Tango's. I'm pretty sure the Jungle crew are all in their own bases - but Scar could be with the NHO," he paused again, counting out the hermits on his fingers. "Ren should be at his island, or with Doc. TFCs in his base, and Iskall is still in the End last time I checked. He invited me out there but... y'know, I don't think he's gonna find anything."

Xisuma hummed in agreement. "Alright, that gives me a head start on finding where everyone's run off too. I guess Stress was right, we've really all huddled up, hm?"

Cub smiled, "Seems so. Friends can bring good comfort. I'm planning on checking on Scar in a couple of hours, I'm just working on not saying anything to upset him, yeah?"

The admin nodded once more, crossing his arms. "Alright, well I'm glad you seem to be doing well. Let me know if you need anything, okay?"

"Sounds good," the hermit pulled out his gold once more, "Stay safe out there."

"I'll do my best," the admin jested, flaring his elytra. "Stay safe here."

Once again, Xisuma was off, this time to visit Ren on his island.
