Interview

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Alyssa POV:
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

I waited backstage with Linn and Anthony as we waited to be announced. Tonight we were being interviewed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. We were all jamming out beforehand as Linn free-styled as Anthony FaceTimed Jasmine.

Bobbing my head a bit as I beatboxed, I noticed Anthony pretending to pour his water on my head in an attempt to make Jasmine laugh.

"Don't even think about it, Ramos!" I chuckled, pushing the water bottle away from its previous place above my head.

"Babe, don't bully Lyssa! That's no way to treat your mother!" Jasmine joked from her end of the FaceTime call.

"Apologize to your mother!" Linn teased, poking his head in between mine and Anthony's so he could be seen by our costar in the video call.

"Yeah! Don't make me ground you, Anthony!" I laughed pointing a finger at the younger man.

"I'm sorry, Ma! Please don't ground me!" He joked, feigning a look of childlike fear.

"Ya damn right!" I chuckled, sharing a high five with Linn as we laughed.

"Parenting done right!" Linn laughed, earning a joking nod of approval from Jasmine.

"I came here to have a good time and I honestly am feeling very attacked right now." Anthony stated in feigned hurt, putting a hand over his heart.

"Weirdo." I joked with a scoff, shaking my head at the younger actor.

"Without further ado, please welcome the stars of the hit Broadway production of Hamilton: An American Musical: Linn–Manuel Miranda, Alyssa Dylan, and Anthony Ramos!"

"Shit! We're on!" I exclaimed with a grin, before quickly addressing Jasmine. "Bye, Jazzy!"

Anthony hung up and the three of us hurried out on stage with bright smiles on our faces. We sat on the familiar light blue couch, the boys were seated on the ends and myself in between them.

"Thank you guys so much for coming! I know we're all beyond excited to have the three of you here!" Jimmy welcomed us, earning applause from the crowd.

"Thank you so much for having us!" I stated warmly with a smile, the boys nodding in agreement.

"It's always an honor." Linn agreed as the three of us crossed our legs in sync with each other.

"What was that? The leg crossing thing?" The host asked us with a surprised laugh.

"Hm?" Linn hummed in confusion as we all looked at our legs in feigned confusion.

"Oh! The uh, leg thing?" Anthony chuckled, pointing to our identically crossed legs.

"Yeah, is that normal for you guys?" Jimmy asked as the audience laughed.

"It's just a super weird Hamilton thing!" I laughed, straightening out the skirt of my black and white patterned dress. "Happens all the time."

"We don't really know how it works." Anthony agreed with a nod and a shrug. "It just sort of happens sometimes."

We actually do know how it happens, considering it's an inside joke that the three of us plus Jasmine, Renée, and Jonathan made up for interviews. We use it to mess with the interviewers and just confuse the hell out of them.

One of us is chosen to give the signal that cues the leg crossing. The signal is three simple taps with your index finger against your right leg. We already know how ridiculous it is, but we all find it hilarious for some unknown reason.

"Really? Were you guys all like brainwashed by aliens and now you do stuff like that to send a signal to the mothership or something?" Jimmy asked the three of us with a laugh. "That's super weird."

"It really is, but we honestly have no clue why it happens." I answered, using every ounce of my willpower not to laugh or smirk.

"I've heard that it's like a legitimate thing within the Hamilton cast. Is it, like, some really complex inside joke? Or should we be concerned about your wellbeing?"

"It's just a thing that we all do." Linn laughed with a shrug as he played it innocent.

"I feel like it's just a super complex inside joke." The host laughed, leaning against the large wooden desk. "It is, isn't it?"

I shared a look with the boys, before we all sent Jimmy a synchronized wink. He threw his hands up in exasperation, exclaiming. "Son of a.... you guys are enjoying this aren't you?"

"Oh, yeah." I told him casually with a nod and an amused smile on my lips.

"Definitely."

"Yep." The crowd laughed at our replies, making Anthony send them a coy wink.

"Okay, so moving on from the inside joke." Jimmy laughed, clapping his hands together in anticipation. "What can you guys tell us about your experiences with the cast?"

"We hate each other so much!" I joked with a grin and a hearty laugh.

"Oh, yeah. Worst costars ever!" Linn chuckled as Anthony and I laughed. "No, these guys are honestly the best. We've kind of become like this one big family."

"So, you all are really close?" He asked the three of us.

"Absolutely, this wonderful group of people have become my best friends, as well as a second family to me during the creation and production of Hamilton: An American Musical." I replied honestly with a smile, earning a joking 'awe' from the boys.

"Honestly though, we are all really close." Anthony agreed with a nod. "Like the girls are constantly having sleepovers, going out to lunch, and getting coffee. We also have a lot of cast dinners and potlucks."

"Basically, our friendships with the cast are so strong, because there's always food involved." Linn joked, making me nod in agreement.

"He's not wrong though!" I laughed with a shrug.

"This just in! Food is the key to a strong and lasting relationship!" Jimmy joked, leaning back in his chair.

"I'm pretty sure that's common knowledge by now, Jimmy." I chuckled, earning a round of cheers from the audience.

"So, Alyssa?" The brunette host stated, informing me that the next question was for me. "Word on the street is that you have a Lip Sync Battle coming up soon!"

I let out a laugh as the crowd erupted into applause. "That is correct, Jimmy."

"Tell us a bit about that! Are you excited?" He asked with a grin.

"I'm super excited! From the performances on the show that I've seen, it looks like a lot of fun!" I admitted with a warm smile. "I will be going up against the very talented Melissa Benoist and I think that it's going to be a great show!"

"Is there anything you'd like to say to Melissa before the battle? Any smack talk?"

"None." I admitted with a laugh. "It's honestly impossible to say anything mean to her, because Melissa is such a sweetheart and there is nothing bad that I can say about her."

"I feel like they just chose the two people who are too nice for their own good to battle each other." Linn joked and Anthony nodded in agreement.

"I have a bet going with Jonathan Groff and Renée Goldsberry on how many times they'll apologize to each other, before the end of the show." The creator of Hamilton admitted with a laugh.

"Linn, you traitor!" I exclaimed with wide eyes, smacking him lightly on the shoulder.

"You made a bet with Renée too?" Anthony asked the male who sat on the opposite side of the couch. "Leslie and I did too."

"Are you guys seeing this?" I asked the audience, who only laughed at my predicament. "Do you see how mean my friends are to me?"

"While they hash this out in a battle of fisticuffs, we'll throw in a commercial break! Stay tuned to see these Broadway besties play head to head in some Hamilton trivia!"
