Chapter 2 - Dustin
"Tews! Tews where are you?!"
Hopper was walking out of his favorite diner when he heard the yelling. As he walked back towards the station, it only got louder. At one point, he turned a corner and was promptly ran over by the source of the yelling.
"Oh, hey Chief." Hopper looked up and saw Dustin Henderson standing above him. "Sorry for running into you." He helped Hopper stand up.
Hopper looked around "So it was you who was making all that racket?"
Dustin looked down. "Sorry about that, it's just, my cat Tews has gone missing."
Hopper looked at him confused. "What kind of name is Tews?"
"I had a cat named Mews that got eaten by demodogs." He explained. "This one is like, Mews Two. So, 'Tews'. You like it? I came up with it!"
Hopper nodded. "I'm sure you did... so where was the last place you saw this cat?"
"Well, he slipped out of the house when I got home from school," Dustin explained. "I chased after him for a while, but I eventually lost him. The last place I saw him was in front of the library."
"Alright then." Hopper put on his hat. "Let's go."
Dustin looked at him with surprise. "You're going to help me find my cat?"
"Sure, thing kid." He looked down at his watch. "There's nothing for me to do back at the station. Now, let's get going before he gets too far ahead of us. Besides, we need to make a stop."
Dustin was confused when they went into the community store and bought a rotisserie chicken, but he didn't question it. The two stopped in front of the library. Dustin was about to start calling for Tews again when Hopper stopped him.
"You've been going about this the wrong way." Hopper opened the pack of chicken and laid it on the steps. He then showed Dustin to a bench nearby. The two sat down. "you've been calling for your cat all morning, but you haven't been giving him a reason to come home. You need to give him some incentive."
Dustin still wasn't sure what he was talking about, but the two waited on the bench. After about fifteen minutes Dustin was ready to give up when suddenly. "Tews!"
Hopper shushed him again. "Let him get some chicken first before you go pick him up. That way he is more comfortable and won't try running away."
Dustin nodded and watched as the Siamese ran over to the plate of chicken. He started eating the food and didn't even notice the two staring at him.
After a few minutes, Hopper told Dustin he could go pick him up. Dustin ran over to Tews and grabbed him. "Oh, Tews I missed you so much!" the cat was looking around thoroughly confused.
Hopper laughed. "Here you go, kid." He handed Dustin the plate of chicken. "Give him the rest when you get home. That will make him think twice about running away next time."
Dustin grinned. "Thanks, Chief! Hey, how'd you get so could with cats?"
Hopper laughed, "When I was a kid, we had this big Persian named Mr. Fluffy. That cat ran away on a daily basis. But I eventually learned this trick and he stopped running away as often."
Dustin chuckled "Mr. Fluffy... and you said Tews was a bad name."
Hopper rolled his eyes "Get lost kid before I arrest you."
"For what?!" Tews was starting to get upset.
Hopper shrugged."I'll think of something." He smiled as Dustin ran down the street with the catbouncing in his arms. Poor Tews...
