Chapter One
A/N TRIGGER WARNING::: SELF HARM, ABUSE, AND FEELS
Nico's P.O.V
"Get your fat ass down here, boy!!" I heard my father call from downstairs.
I was currently in my new room unpacking.
Ugh.
We moved to Manhattan, New York from California. That's where my step sister Hazel lives. Before that we lived in Venice, Italy.
Today was Saturday and we just now got all moved in.
I dreaded going to school on Monday.
I got up and started heading down the stairs.
"Hurry it up!"
I got to the living room and found him laying on the couch with an empty beer bottle in his hand.
"What?" I spit out.
"Don't use that tone of voice with me, boy!!!"
I sighed. "Oh, I'm so sorry, father. What ever do you need?" I sassed.
"Don't sass me!"
My father got up and raised his hand. I closed my eyes, knowing what was coming.
He slapped me hard and I fell to the ground.
"You need to learn to be more respactful, you little fag!!"
I should've just kept my mouth shut.
He kicked my stomach and I cried out in pain.
"You little weakling!" He kicked me again. "Next time I talk to you, don't give me any attitude!"
He kicked me again and again and I held in my cries.
"Please, stop," I begged weakly.
"I'll stop when you learn your lesson!!"
He kicked me once more, then he went back to the couch.
"Get out of my sight."
I crawled over to the stairs and tried to use the railing to help me get up. It hurt to stand, but I walked up the stairs nonetheless.
I grunted with every step.
Once I got up to my room, I closed the door and looked under my bed.
I took out my box of razor blades and opened it.
I selected my blade and rolled up my sleeve.
Fat.
Cut.
Stupid.
Cut.
Worthless.
Cut.
Weakling.
Cut.
Fag.
Cut.
Cut.
Cut.
Cut.
Cut.
Cut.
Cut.
Cut.
I looked at my arm. Blood seeped out of the cuts and fell to the floor.
Tears ran down my face.
I stood up and went to the bathroom to get some bandages.
After I bandaged the cuts well enough, I went back to my room and went to sleep.
~~~~
I was in our old front yard, playing with my older sister, Bianca. I was ten at the time.
My mother and father were sitting in lawn chairs on the porch.
I loved Italy. I missed Italy. So much.
I ran out into the street.
I didn't see the truck until Bianca pushed me out of the way.
I woke with a start and tears streamed down my face.
"Bianca..."
I checked my phone for the time. 3:00 AM.
Well, I'm not gonna be able to get back to sleep, might as well do something.
I went to my contacts and selected my step sister.
Awesome step sista
Nico: hey. You awake?
I waited for a few minutes before I got a text back.
Hazel: I wasn't until just now. What do u want?
Nico: I'm bored and I just woke up
Hazel: read fanfiction or something
Nico: *le sigh* okay fine. See ya
Hazel: bye
I went on Wattpad (AN/ hey! He's using this app! Moving on) and looked up Ouran High School Host Club fanfiction.
Awww, the twins are soo cute, I thought. I ship twincest so much. Don't judge.
~~~ le time skip ~~~
I stopped reading fanfiction and looked at the time. 9:30 AM.
I got up and walked down the stairs, still in pain from yesterday.
I looked in the living room; my dad was passed out on the couch. Beer bottles were scattered on the floor.
I quietly walked out the door; I wanted to walk outside for a bit before I had to face the hell that was my father.
I looked over at the house next door to ours.
A boy was sitting on the porch talking to a girl.
The boy had black hair, I couldn't really see his face.
The girl had blonde hair and it looked like she had grey eyes.
The boy glanced over and I looked away.
I went back inside, and up to my room.
I grabbed my drawing notebook and a pencil.
I went back outside quietly to find the blonde haired girl pulling the boy with the black hair over to our house.
"Come on, Percy! You gotta meet your new neighbor," the girl told this so called 'Percy.'
"Hi!" The blonde girl waved at me. "Percy! Say hi!"
Percy and the girl arrived at our door after Percy's struggling.
"H-hi," Percy stuttered out.
He had wonderful seagreen eyes.
"Hi?" I said.
"Hello, newcomer. I'm Annabeth Chase. This is Percy Jackson."
"I'm, uh, Nico di Angelo."
This was weird. They actually came up to me. Super weird. Not natural.
"What school are you going to? Where did you live before here?"
"Umm... I'm gonna be going to Goode High. I lived in Italy then I moved to California now I'm here. I'm gonna go back inside now."
I reached for the door handle but Annabeth stopped me.
"Wait!"
I raised my eyebrow for an explanation.
"Uhh, we wanna get to know you. Come. Tell us about yourself."
"Yeah, no thanks. I'll be inside."
"Wait! So you like drawing?" Annabeth nodded towards my notebook and pencil.
"No, I'm just carrying this around for the sake of having stuff to carry," I answered sarcastically. "Yes, I like drawing. I was planning to sketch something, then I was being forced to socialize by you terrans."
Percy laughed and Annabeth glared at him. His laugh was wonderful, like calming waves crashing down on the shore.
Woah, where did that come from?
"Well, that's cool," he said. "We go to Goode High, so we'll probably see each other."
Percy smiled at me.
"Joy," I mumbled sarcastically.
"Well, you're just full of sarcasm, aren't you?" Annabeth commented.
"Oh, you don't even know."
"Hey, what happened to your face?" Percy asked.
"Huh?" I asked confused. Then I remembered what my dad had done the day before. Dam, he noticed. "Oh, nothing."
"Don't lie to us, Nico," Percy told me.
I raised an eyebrow. "Why not? You could be serial killers or something. I don't even know you. See ya."
I walked back inside and sighed.
"What were you doing?" I heard my dad call.
Just when I thought I would have a day without having to deal with him. What was I thinking? Ugh.
"I was just outside."
My father stood up from the couch and stalked over to me.
I ran past him and up to my room. I heard him running after me.
I slammed the door to my room and locked it just in time.
He pounded on the door.
"Open this door, young man!!!"
I grabbed my phone and ear buds off of my bed, dropped my notebook and pencil, and looked out the window at Percy's house.
"Open the door!!!!"
I opened the window and climbed out, carefully of course, trying not to fall.
Percy saw me climbing out and his face instantly filled with worry.
Once I got safely to the ground he rushed over to me.
"Nico, what's wrong?"
"Nothing. I'm just going on a walk. See ya."
I started to walk off, but Percy grabbed my wrist, making my cuts hurt. I tried my hardest not to wince.
"Wait. You don't just climb out the window on the second floor for nothing."
"OR maybe I do. You don't know me. Now could you let go?"
"Nico-"
"Let. Go."
He reluctantly let go of my wrist.
Thank the gods he didn't get blood on his hand. I bandaged them up pretty well, but that usually doesn't help much.
"Nico, I just-"
At that moment my phone rang.
"It's my step sister; I have to take this. See ya, Percy."
"See ya, Nico."
I left and started walking. I didn't know where, I was just walking.
"Hey, Hazel. What's up?"
"Hey, Nico. Just checking up on you. How are you doing?"
"I'm alright," I lied.
"We miss you here in California. Everyone says hi."
That made me smile.
I thought of my old friends back in California.
There was Hazel, her boyfriend Frank, Reyna, and Leo. I missed them all terribly. Well, at least Jason and Thalia lived here in New York now. Jason was one of my best friends and Thalia was his sister. They moved here around a year and a half ago.
"Tell 'em I said hey back," I told her.
"Will do. So, how's it going over there? Meet anybody new?"
"Well..."
Hazel squeeled on the other end.
"Spill," she told me.
"Well, the neighbor came over and talked to me. A girl dragged him over. The guy's pretty cute."
What did I just say? Why am I telling her this?
"I mean, I'm pretty sure he's straight. He seemed pretty close with the girl."
"Squeeeeeeeeel! You think he's cute! Aahhh, ship! What's his name?"
"Hazel, I don't even know if he likes guys."
"I still ship it! What's his name?! Tell meeee!!"
I sighed.
"Percy."
"Percico will be real!!!"
(AN/ I'm pretty sure Hazel is all of us)
I laughed and she dramatically gasped.
"Do not laugh at me, peasant!"
"Who are you calling a peasant?!"
I loved my talks with her. She always knew how to make me laugh.
I looked around.
"Where am I?" I mumbled.
"Huh? Nico, are you lost?"
"Pft, no.... Maybe.... yes."
"Welp. If you we're here you wouldn't be getting lost."
"I know that, Hazel. I gotta go. I'm gonna figure out where I am. Ciao."
"Bye, Nico."
I hung up the phone and got on Google Maps.
I typed in my address and followed the directions it gave me. By the time I got home it was 8:58 PM.
I quietly walked in and looked in the living room.
Thank gods, he's asleep.
I walked up to my room and flopped on my bed.
Ugh. Tomorrow is gonna suck. Might as well get some sleep.
~~~ le time skip ~~~
I woke up to a knocking on my window.
I looked at my phone. 3:30 AM.
I looked at my window. Percy was there, knocking on it, motioning for me to come over to him.
I walked over to the window and opened it.
"What in Merlin's beard do you want, Percy? It's 3:30 in the morning."
"Well, someone's grumpy."
"Yeah, I tend to get that way when the annoying boy from next door comes knocking on my window and wakes me up at 3:30 in the friggin morning!"
"Okay, I'm sorry. Come on."
"Where and why?"
"It's a place we take all the cute newcomers."
My eyes widened and I blushed.
"Uhh, I mean, um, A-annabeth thinks you're cute and, uhh..."
"How'd you get up here, anyway?"
I didn't see a ladder anywhere.
"I climbed. So, you coming or not?"
I sighed.
"Well, I'm not gonna be able to get back to sleep, thanks to you, so I guess."
"Sweet. Come on."
Percy climbed down and I followed after him.
I lost my grip a little less than half way through and fell.
I let out a scream and closed my eyes, ready to hit the ground. Except, I didn't. I felt strong arms catch me.
I slowly opened my eyes and saw Percy staring at me with his arms wrapped around me. Both of us were blushing.
"T-thanks," I mumbled.
"N-no problem."
After a while of us staring at each other in silence, I tried to pull away, but he gripped me tight.
"Percy?"
"Hmm?"
"You can let me go now," I told him.
"Oh, yeah."
He still didn't let go.
I squirmed in his arms but his grip tightened on me.
"P-percy?"
"Yes, Nico?"
"Can you let go? You're starting to hurt me," I told him.
"I'm sorry!"
Percy let go of me.
"I didn't mean to hurt you, Nico!"
"It's okay. I'm fine."
We stood there in silence for a minute.
"So, are we gonna go or what?" I asked.
"Yeah. Come on. Follow me."
I put my hands in my jacket pockets and followed after him.
~ kinda le time skip BC i dont feel like writing directions and stuff or whatever and it took a while for them to get there ~
I followed Percy and we ended up at what looked like an old abounded theme park.
"An abandoned theme park?" I questioned.
Percy nodded. "Come on. They're waiting."
"Who's they?"
Percy smiled and motioned for me to follow him.
We walked until we got to a group of people.
Before I could get a good look at them, strong arms engulfed me in a hug.
"Nico!! I haven't seen you in forever, man!" I heard Jason's voice say.
"Can't.... breathe.... No..... oxygen.." I may or may not have said that a little too dramatically.
"Sorry," Jason said, letting go of me.
"No worries. This hooligan over here"--I motioned to Percy--"woke me up from my much needed beauty sleep. Jason. Is this of your doing?"
Jason shook his head.
"Wait. You two know each other?" Percy asked.
Jason nodded. "Yeah! Me and Nico go way back! I used to live in California and we lived across the street from each other. We're buds."
"Why am I here at four in the morning?" I asked.
"We always invite new people here to get to know them," Percy explained.
I nodded.
I looked around at the people standing in front of us.
I saw the girl from earlier. What was her name again? Annabeth? Yeah, pretty sure. Her blonde hair was tied up in a ponytail and her grey eyes reflected the moon's light. Another girl was standing beside her, holding her hand. She had dark brown hair which was in two braids going down her shoulders and her eyes seemed to change from color to color.
A guy was standing there beside them. He had blond hair and blue eyes that sparkled in the moonlight.
He's pretty cute, I thought. Stop that, Nico.
"I'm Annabeth Chase, we met earlier. This is my girlfriend, Piper McLean," Annabeth said, motioning to the girl holding her hand. Piper waved and I waved back.
"I'm Will Solace," the blond boy said.
"Nico di Angelo."
Will smiled at me and I smiled back.
"Where's Thalia?" I asked Jason.
"She's at home cause she didn't feel like coming. All Percy told us was that you're hot. He didn't say that was you."
"Jason! What the hell?!" Percy exclaimed.
I looked at Percy, blushing, and I hoped that no one could tell in the dim lighting.
"It's true," Jason said, innocently. "The only things you said were that he's hot and he's new."
"You're dead to me," Percy mumbled. "You're not supposed to tell him that! You don't just go up to him and tell him I said he's hot! Who even does that?!"
I walked over to Will and the girls to get away from them.
They continued bickering back and forth.
"Do they do that a lot?" I asked Will.
"Yeah. They're Bros though. Percy's not wrong."
"Huh?"
"He's not wrong about you being hot."
"Oh. T-thanks," I stuttered, blushing madly.
Will laughed and ruffled my hair.
"You're adorable."
"No I'm not," I said, pushing his hand away. When I touched his hand, it sent a tingling feeling through me and I pulled away quickly.
"Oh, leave the poor kid alone, Will," Piper piped in. (I'm hilarious)
Will put his hands up in defense. "It's not my fault he's so sexy. I can't control my d-"
"Okay, that's enough. Nico, you're coming over here with us," Piper interrupted Will, pulling me away from him and over to her and Annabeth.
"Oh, come on! Give him back!" Will whined.
"No! He just got here and we won't have you poisoning his mind with dirty thoughts! Just leave the poor kid alone!"
I looked over at Jason and Percy, who were still bickering.
"You leave him alone!" Will yelled at her.
"You don't even know if he's gay! Leave. Him. Alone."
"Are you gay?" Will asked hopefully.
"Will!!" Percy yelled.
"What? I was just asking," Will said, putting his hands up in protest.
"Back off."
Percy took my hand and dragged me with him.
"Percy! Where are we going?"
"Hey!! What are you kids doing here?!" someone yelled. A flashlight was shined on us and we bolted, along with the others.
After a long, and I mean, long, while of running, we finally got away.
Everyone was panting and trying to catch their breath.
We ended up at Percy's house. We all collapsed on the porch.
"Percy, I am never coming with you at four in the morning ever again. I'm punching you next time you show up at my window," I told Percy, once I caught my breath.
"Ooh, feisty and sexy. Awesome," Will said.
"Shut it, Solace," I replied.
"Yeah, Solace. Di Angelo's mine," Percy told him.
"I've literally only know you for less than a day and you're already fighting over me. I mean, I know I'm hard to resist, but dang. And how do you know I don't already have a boyfriend? Hmm?"
"So you admit you like guys?" Will asked hopefully.
I shrugged. "Never said I didn't."
"Percy!!!!!" I heard a woman yell from inside the house. Everyone jumped up and Percy hid behind Jason.
A woman opened the door and looked at all of us.
"No note!! Bed empty!!! You could've been killed!! Or worse!" (Expelled. Sorry not sorry. I had to)
"H-hey, mom," Percy said, stepping out from behind Jason.
"Where have you been?!!!"
"Umm.... we had to, uh, get to know the new kid. And, uh, what's worse than killed?"
"Expelled," I whispered.
"Yass!!" Annabeth yelled. "He's a keeper!!" She jumped on me in a hug.
"New kid?" the woman, I'm assuming to be Percy's mom, questioned.
Annabeth got off of me and pushed me towards the front of the group.
"Sally, this is Nico. Nico, this is Sally, Percy's mom."
"Hi," I waved.
"Oh my goodness he's so adorable! Percy have you asked him out yet? Oh, I'm sorry Nico. My bad. I don't even know if you like guys and here I am. Whoops. Step inside, kids. I made blue cookies," she told us, leading us all inside.
"Blue cookies!" Percy exclaimed excitedly.
"No cookies for you! You gave me a heart attack! Go to your room!"
"But mo-" Percy started to protest, but his mom gave him a death glare and he went upstairs. I couldn't help but smile a little.
"So, Nico, it's nice to meet you," Percy's mom said, taking a tray of blue chocolate chip cookies off of the counter. "Want some cookies?"
Everyone took a cookie, including myself.
Hey y'all! This is the author! Do you like it so far? I know it's bad but it's what I got. It'll get better. Hopefully. Anyway ciao!
