Eliza's P.O.V

"Good morning, Eliza." Alex said, walking into the back room. "Good morning, Alex." I said, not bothering to look up from my phone. "So did you get any sleep last night?" I asked. "What's sleep?" He asked. 

"Something you need to survive, Alexander." 

"Oh yeah." He laughed. "Nope, haven't gotten a wink of sleep for the past three days."

"Alexander, I swear." I sighed. "So how has Philip been?" Once Alex turned eighteen, I voluntarily gave custody of my son to Alexander but I'm of course still allowed to see him. "Philip's fine. He made a friend at school. I think her name is Theodosia Burr." He responded.

"That's nice. Now-"

"LAF, WHAT THE FUCK?!" Yvette yelled, running into the backroom, startling all the other employees, but mainly her brother. "Babe, please calm down." Another employee , Adrienne , said, walking up to her girlfriend. "Jesus Christ what did I do this t-" Laf was quickly cut off by his short-tempered sister. "You ate my fUcKiNg Cheezits!"

Since I knew things were about to get violent, I quickly left the back room and just decided to start my shift. I made my way to the register and that was that. At around noon, a girl in a red sundress came in, two little girls in those little seat things in front of the carts. This woman looked to be about my age. 

Once she came up to the register I was working at, I saw her little girls. "Oh, how adorable!" I said. "What are their names?" The woman smiled and pointed to the one on the right. "Thank you! This one is my oldest , Susan." She then gestured to the girl on the left. "And this is Anna."

"Those are lovely names." I said. "Thank you! Also, have I seen you before? You look kinda familiar." She said. "Depends. Do you go to Columbia University?" I asked. She nodded. "Maria Reynolds. Pleasure to meet you."

"Eliza Schuyler. Anyways, your total is twenty dollars." I said and Maria handed me her credit card. I swiped it and stopped. "Ma'am, it says that your card has been declined." I informed her. "Do you have another card or another form of payment?"

Her face quickly became a look of distress. "Oh god James, not again." I heard her whisper to herself. I wasn't sure how to respond to that. "I'm sorry, I don't. Can you just...put it all back?" She said. "Of course ma'am."

"Oh, uh...I was wondering if I could possibly get your number?" She asked. "Well, I guess so." I quickly wrote it down on a piece of paper and then the girl's phone rang. "Thanks, I hope to see you around, Eliza!" With that, she ran away.

"Okay. Something is definitely up with this girl." I thought to myself. "EXCUSE ME?! I HAD TO WAIT 7 MINUTES!"

Oh no. A Karen.

Finally, I am done with work. I go into Alex's apartment (he's my best friend so sometimes I just come in unannounced) and I flop onto the couch. "Philip's in my room watching Paw Patrol. Anyways, I ordered some dominoes." He said sitting next to me. "Okay." I said, rubbing my eyes. I'm trying to stay awake, alright folks?

A few minutes later the doorbell rang. Alex opened it and another five minutes later we were on the couch , eating pizza with our son in between us as I started up the princess and the frog. 

"Hey, Lex?"

"What's up, Liza?"

"I- actually, never mind." I started. I wanted to tell him about Maria but figured it was best I kept quiet. Maybe I'll tell him another time. Alex didn't press on and we just kinda vibed there for the rest of the night.
