Chapter Two

Marshall kept his head low, letting his black hair cover his face. He didn't want to be here, but he had to, no choice. No choice in anything, he had lost his choices long ago.

The doctor's office didn't feel too cold, nor did it show a sense of warmth as the light broke through the window.

Marshall kept his focus on his hands in his lap as he sat across from the doctor's desk. He just wanted out; he didn't understand why he needed to talk to anyone. He didn't understand why everyone suddenly cared. He just wanted Larna, that's all who he wanted. He wanted her in his arms, he wanted to hear her laughter, hear her playfully squeal his name. That's all he wanted. He needed Larna.

"Marshall, tell me about her." It was as if the Doctor could read Marshall's mind.

Marshall's gaze slowly slid up to look at the Doctor's face, he noted how the male looked content not curious.

Marshall's black eyes flicked to the contents on the desk, he noted the lack of items on the desk. No name plaque, no stack of paper, not even a computer. Just one pen and a notebook.

Marshall shifted his gaze down to the carpet, the carpet looked like it had been cleaned but there was still evidence of a well stepped on carpet.

The Doctor waited for a response; he kept his attention on Marshall.

"Would you like to know about me first?" The Doctor asked, he wasn't going to push Marshall to talk. He never liked to push patients to talk, he wanted them to talk when they were ready.

Marshall didn't respond.

"I'm Doctor Snapell, I've been assigned to you. Many are worried about you, including your friend." Doctor Snapell clasped his hands together, he hoped mentioning Larna would spark some interest in Marshall but there wasn't anything in Marshall's lack of reaction that indicated he noticed "I've been a doctor for thirty years, it's been a wonderful bumpy road. I used to deal with the clinically insane..."

"Do you think I'm clinically insane?" Marshall lifted his head, trying to read Doctor Snapell's reaction.

Doctor Snapell didn't react, he kept content written all over his face. He shook his head softly "Not unless you want me to, I believe what you want me to believe. I see what you want me to see, I can see that you're a lonely man in need of assistance. Though I'm unsure what type of assistant."

Marshall deeply and loudly sighed "I just want my friend. She always helped me."

Doctor Snapell lowered his gaze to his notebook; he hadn't touched it since Marshall sat down "I understand." He looked up at Marshall "I heard that Larna helped you through your darkest times."

"You don't understand." Marshall snarled, frustration rose through his voice "Larna wasn't my wife, she wasn't my girlfriend. Larna was a like a sister to me. She was the one I could count on, no matter what type of day I had but someone took her away from me. Someone used her in ways that she shouldn't of been used. How am I supposed to be me without her!?" He jumped to his feet, his chest heaving as anger boiled through his body.

Doctor Snapell's gaze followed Marshall around the room, watching as all Marshall could do was walk around the room trying to let his anger out without hitting anything or verbally lashing out.

"What about Larna, If she was having a bad day, could she lean on you?"

Marshall paused his movements; he shifted his gaze out of the window. Seeing the way the world carried on as if they didn't know what was going on in the room. Marshall shook his head "Larna hated talking about herself. She hated talking about her day, she hated talking about anything that revolved around her." He closed his eyes for a moment "I tried to ask, she stopped me." Marshall opened his eyes.

Doctor Snapell watched as Marshall's face softened, he watched as Marshall looked as if he was about to cry "Do you want to start from the beginning?"

Marshall shifted his gaze to Doctor Snapell. Marshall didn't want to talk about Larna, he just wanted to be out of this. He wanted his freedom but knew that he would never happen.

"You said Larna was like a sister to you, was she your sister?" Curiosity floated through Doctor Snapell's voice.

Marshall looked down at the closed notebook on the doctor's desk, it had remained untouched since Marshall had walked in the room "Larna was just a friend." He sighed.

Doctor Snapell nodded slightly "How did you both meet?"

Marshall leaned against the wall; his posture showed that he wasn't ready to tell the whole story "We just bumped into each other." He left his answer as vague as possible.
