Baby (short)
Y/N and Octavia have been preparing for their baby with a mixture of excitement and nervousness, given Y/N's shy and anxious personality, and Octavia's more thoughtful and brooding demeanor.
Y/N, being someone who wants everything to be perfect but tends to overthink, has spent countless hours researching safe, comfortable baby gear. Octavia has helped balance this by choosing more aesthetically pleasing but functional items. They eventually settled on a nursery theme inspired by celestial imagery, blending Y/N's preference for soft blues and greys with Octavia's love of stars and the night sky.
Y/N, being shy and nervous about public outings, followed Octavia through baby stores as they compiled a list of must-haves: baby clothes, diapers, bottles, pacifiers, and more. Octavia tried to keep things practical, while Y/N often gravitated toward overly cute and cozy baby onesies, which Octavia found endearing.
They picked out a high-quality stroller together, testing different models to ensure it would be perfect for both city strolls and park visits. Y/N spent an entire afternoon practicing how to fold and unfold it as efficiently as possible.
Y/N, ever the researcher, has accumulated a small library of parenting books. He's been diligently reading up on baby care, development, and even parenting styles. He often shares interesting tips and facts with Octavia, sometimes to the point of overwhelming her with information.
Both Y/N and Octavia have their anxieties—Y/N about being a good father and Octavia about being a mother. They've made a habit of talking through their fears late at night, often under the stars, as it helps to calm their nerves.
The couple were currently sitting in the baby room, surrounded by baby books, tiny clothes, and nursery decorations. Octavia's sitting on the couch, absentmindedly stroking her stomach while Y/N organizes baby supplies nervously.
Y/N was shifting a pile of baby name books.
Y/N: So... uh, do you have any name ideas yet? I mean, we don't have to decide right now, but, y'know... it's good to start somewhere. I found this one book that, uh... specializes in, um, celestial names?
Octavia: Maybe... names inspired by stars? Or something to do with the night sky? I always liked that.
Y/N: Yeah! Stars... like, uh... (fumbles with the book) Aster? Or Orion? Nova? Or something softer, like Lyra? Luna?
Octavia: (laughs) Lyra's pretty. Though I wouldn't mind something a little... darker. You know, mysterious.
Y/N: (nervously chuckles) Right, right... mysterious. I'll, uh, keep looking.
Y/N sits next to Octavia, flipping through a different book.
Y/N: So, uh... when the baby... (clears throat) when the baby's born, do you think they'll stay in an egg for a while? Like... how long, exactly? I've read about all these different timelines, and, uh, I'd just hate to get it wrong, you know?
Octavia: (shrugs, still stroking her stomach) I don't know exactly. Dad said I was in mine for a couple of months, but it can vary. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Y/N: (nods, visibly relieved but still anxious) Yeah... yeah, that makes sense. You know, the whole egg thing just, uh, makes it feel... extra special, somehow. Like, a little magical.
Y/N glances at Octavia, then fidgets, looking at his feet.
Y/N: Um... Octavia? (pauses, then quickly adds) Would it be, uh, helpful if I stayed close? Like, really close? Until, y'know, the baby's born? I could, um, help out, make sure you're comfortable... or just be here in case you need anything.
Octavia: (smiling, touched) Yeah, Y/N. I'd like that a lot. Just knowing you're here makes this whole thing... less scary.
Y/N: (relaxes a little, nodding) Alright, then. I'm not going anywhere.
