"Ah, I knew you'd be up here. You always did like looking at the sky."
I looked back at Delilah as she approached me. She walked across the roof and sat down next to me. "Hmph, I thought you'd be inside cuddling Atlas while he slept," I chuckled.
She grinned at me. "I would've, but your little Chimera beat me to it."
"I somehow seriously doubt that. Charlotte isn't exactly a people person," I told her.
Delilah leaned over and cuddled up next to me. "She reminds me of that adorable tiny shape-shifter named Natasha from back home. Remember how she used to change into cats just trying to make you fall in love?"
I let out a small burst of laughter. "Oh yeah, she stopped when I picked her up and threw her in a lake. After that she absolutely hated me. I remember you saying, did this little bastard just skip a cat?"
She shrugged. "Well, we were horrible creatures and to tell the truth we still are," She pointed out.
Then she frowned as she looked at me. "You never did tell me why you started taking contracts again. Especially after that incident with Kessel?"
I let out a sigh as I ran a hand through my hair. "I didn't force Charlotte to summon me. She did it all on her own, it was a Sunday too so I was at the palace playing with my father's cat Lucille. Then I appeared in her attic back at her home. It's not that I'm still taking other contracts, Charlotte just made me an offer I couldn't refuse," I told her softly
I let out a chuckle and smiled slightly. "Even at only twelve years old she was so determined and persuasive. The only word she wanted to hear from me was yes back then."
Delilah continued to frown. "Wait, you told people back at our home that you quit after Kessel. That you were completely done, so your summoning symbols shouldn't have even existed anymore. So how did Charlotte get your runes? Especially considering the size of her contract markings." She reminded me.
I shrugged. "Charlotte won't tell me. In fact when I asked her about it the first time she said that it was a mistake. That she meant to summon something else." I told her.
"You've always been like this, sounding like you're telling me everything and nothing. But here's the weird thing Ivo. I could feel your power coming from her even when you're asleep or when you're away from her. Do you want to explain that?" Delilah asked.
I looked at her and let out a snort. "Only if you explain how you became Atlas's contract demon. I haven't seen you play the role of demonic nature nymph in years. Even when you taught class you didn't tell us much about your own personal contracts."
She crossed her arms and pouted. "You know that I can't do that without his permission. How about another deal?"
I sighed. "Okay, what kind of deal?"
Delilah grinned at me. "All you have to do is tell me the bare bones explanation of why I can feel your power in her. And I'll tell you about what Kessel has been up to since you and Charlotte were locked away. I know that you were going after him like you wanted to but suddenly you lost the trail after a few months, then you were placed in that prison, Fenrir."
I bit my lip. "Wow you're really curious aren't you? Fine...after Charlotte summoned me and I took care of what she wanted me to take care of, I noticed that it had taken a gigantic toll on her already weak body and she was dying. So I infused the runes in her marking with a lot more of my power than necessary. It saved her life and allows me to possess her more easily down the line." I explained as I stretched. "And one more thing I got the two of us thrown in jail as a plan to get info on Kessel but they were strangely silent about it."
When I closed my eyes for a moment I could feel Charlotte's skin on mine, the mix of the rough scars and still smooth skin covered me for a second. As I opened my eyes the familiar feeling faded and I let out a soft hum.
Charlotte isn't the only one dreaming about the old days.
Delilah's eyes widened as she looked at me. "You broke the taboo again? Just like you did for Kessel?" She said in disbelief.
"Kessel is a slimy bastard who I made the mistake of even trying to help. I need him dead," I growled.
Delilah sighed. "I know, which means you're really going to hate me for telling you this. You know those religious zealots called the Aveon foundation?"
I nodded. "Of course I do! They hate anything non-human, they view them as tainted heathens. Hell, the demon hunters that threw us in Fenrir were a part of one of their factions. All of them are fucking idiots!"
Delilah crossed her legs. "Well about the same time you made that contract with Charlotte, Kessel was in the Aveon and began rising through the ranks. He became their new prophet and leader a few months back. He's been making big changes too now that he's in power, he nearly destroyed the vampire race, he forced the werewolves to join in as the Aveon organizations personal hunting dogs, he's increased the Aveon Organization's power in certain areas. At the moment he lives in the Malkavien capital spewing his own self-righteous bullshit and you wanna know something else? He's promised to eradicate any supernatural creatures that don't fall in line."
I froze as I took in Delilah's information. "No. That traitor needs to die," I whispered a sharp pain shot through my palms as my own claws dug into them.
Slowly as I unclenched my hands and let out a soft sigh.
If I hurt myself it'll hurt Charlotte, I need to calm down.
Delilah shook her head. "You're the prince of our species, so when you disappeared everyone thought the worst. That you betrayed us and finally gave in to Kessel. You didn't call, send any letters or anything. Even King Vincent had no clue where you were. Everyone is still thinking the worst about you!" Delilah looked down at the ground as she bit her lip. "Everyone, Me, Vincent, Lawrence, Alyssa we...we were all worried about you," she whispered.
"Ah, so that's why you chose a Chimera as your contract. You were looking for me weren't you?" I asked as I laid down on the roof.
She shook her head. "That's not the only reason but I did want to find you. Ask you why you disappeared then, I met Charlotte and saw why. I'd leave home to protect her too. She's your second chance in a way isn't she?"
I snickered. "Too bad, she's mine so you can't have her. And I'm not giving her up for anything."
Delilah laid down next to me. "I know besides, I've always preferred male contracts to female ones. They know how to appreciate me more."
I rolled my eyes. "I kinda know what you mean Flower child."
"Wow, you haven't called me that in years. I used to hate it but now it feels better than anything." She whispered as she cuddled up to me.
I wrapped my arm around her and eventually we drifted off to sleep.
