The Quest for Nya

Kai's P.O.V.:

We were in the monastery trying to figure out where to start looking for the vengestone buyer. Kira said that Vania found out the buyer was from Ninjago and all the vengestone her father was getting was being shipped to somewhere nearby, but we weren't sure where. She couldn't get anything else out of her father.

"How could anybody be moving that much vengestone across the city?" Cole asked.

"Not by air. It would be detected by local air traffic control." Zane said.

"Maybe they're transporting it underground?" Kira suggested.

"I told you, the serpentine say nothing's traveling through the unused subway tunnels. They'd know." Lloyd said.

"But it's moving somehow, we're missing something." Cole said. "Let's start over with what we know."

"Ugh we've been at this for hours." I said frustrated. "We're just going in circles!"

"Any ideas Jay?" Lloyd looked at him.

Jay was sitting at the table starring at his half empty glasses of water. He didn't even seem to notice us, and he certainly wasn't helping.

"Jay, we need you to focus up buddy." Cole said, but Jay didn't budge.

"JAY!" I yelled.

"You don't have to yell I'm right here." He said finally looking at us.

"Any ideas on the vengestone? Who the buyer is? How they're moving it? Anything?" Cole asked.

"No." Jay said turning back around.

"We're going to need a little more effort than that." Kira said.

"What's the point?" Jay sighed.

"Excuse me?" Lloyd said.

"Lloyd, you said Nya wouldn't want us to quit. That she'd kick our butts and tell us to get to work, and you're right, but you forgot something." Jay said. "We weren't truly a team until Nya joined. And whether we realized it or not, she was the glue that held us together."

"What are you saying?" Cole frowned.

"I'm saying I don't think we can do this without her." Jay frowned.

"You act like you're the only one who misses her." I said to him. "We all do. But at least the rest of us are trying to help instead of being mopey and useless!"

"Hey! You came to me! I didn't ask to be here!" Jay yelled.

"We're all pretty keyed up right now." Lloyd pushed us apart. "Maybe we need a break."

"It's not a break we need." Jay said. "We need a break up."

"Jay wait." Cole yelled.

"No! I'm done!" Jay said before walking out of the room.

"Kai you shouldn't have yelled at him like that." Lloyd said.

"He started it." I grumbled.

"I don't want to hear it." Lloyd said. "We all lost something that day, and I get it, but Jay's taking more time to grieve than you."

"It's been a whole year since what happened. If he's not over it by now he..."

"People grieve in their own ways and on their own time." Kira frowned, interrupting me. "Trust me, I should know."

"Well right now we need him to focus on the task at hand." Lloyd said.

"Well maybe there's a way we can get him out of his funk." Kira said.

"You mean like a therapist?" Cole asked.

"No, we take a boat and find Nya." Kira suggested.

"What? How is that possible?" I asked.

"I have a plan. Trust me." Kira said.

"Ok, let's do it." I agreed.

"Wait guys, the vengestone buyer is still out there and we need to catch them." Cole said.

"Ok, then we'll split up. You, Zane and Lloyd keep searching. Kai and I will take Jay out on the ship." Kira said.

"Ok." Lloyd nodded and kissed Kira on the cheek. "Good luck."

"Ugh! Not again!" Zane suddenly covered his ears.

"Zane? Are you ok?" Cole asked.

"I've been hearing strange sounds coming from my communicator all day." Zane said. "It is messing with my audio sensors. It sounds like static interference, but no matter how many times I repair it, it always comes back."

"Maybe you should rest for a bit Zane." Lloyd said. "Cole and I can keep searching."

"Ok, I'll go see if Pixal can help." Zane nodded and got up.

Kira and I went to talk to Jay. We found him in the courtyard as he was about to leave.

"Jay wait!" I yelled.

"Why? You wanna yell at me some more?" Jay frowned.

"Look I'm sorry about that, I wasn't thinking about how hard you were taking this." I frowned.

"Anyway, we were wondering if you wanted to go with us." Kira asked.

"Go where?" Jay asked.

"To find Nya." Kira said.

"What do you mean." Jay asked.

"She's out there in the sea somewhere." Kira said. "One of Seliel's dad's friends is a sea captain and he actually ran into a dragon that saved one of his crew mates from rough seas yesterday."

"A sea dragon? Like a dragon made of water?" I asked.

"Yeah." Kira nodded.

"That sounds like Nya." I realized.

"Then we have to go find her!" Jay yelled.

"Did she give you the coordinates?" I asked.

"Yep, all we need is a ship." Kira said.

"The bounty can sail." I said.

"Ok, let's do it." Jay said.

Kira, Jay and I ran onto the bounty and made our way to the coordinates Kira gave us about the sea dragon. A part of me was hoping we would find Nya out here, but then again, if we did, how do we get her back?

"Are you sure this is a good idea Kira?" I asked her.

"Yes. If we run into Nya and he sees her again, he'll be able to say goodbye and move on." Kira said.

"I'm all for getting Jay some closure, but he might be under the impression that we're trying to get her back." I said.

"It'll be hard, but it's for his own good." She said. "And it'll be good for you too. You'll see."

"Ok, if you're sure." I sighed.

We arrived at the coordinates and the seas were surprisingly calm. We waited for a while, but there was no sign of anything.

"Nya! Nya!" Jay started shouting at the side of the ship.

To humor him a little, me and Kira started shouting too. After a a whole hour of this, nothing was happening and we were starting to lose hope.

"Nya! Nya!" Jay kept shouting.

"Jay, maybe we should..."

"No!" Jay yelled at me. "Kira said she was here, and we are not leaving until we find her!"

"The sighting was yesterday Jay. Maybe she swam to a different spot since then?" Kira said.

"Then we search the whole ocean!" Jay said.

"We don't have that kind of time. The others are going to need us if they find any leads." I said.

"There you go again. Giving up when things get hard." Jay taunted.

"Well at least I'm not trying to talk to glasses of water." I said.

"Hey! You take that back!"

"Make me!" I taunted.

He sparked up a lightning bolt and shot in my direction.

"Ok that does it!" I sparked up a flame.

I threw a fireball at Jay and he hit another lightning bolt back at me. We threw them at each other back and forth.

"Guys! Knock it off!" Kira yelled.

"No. This ends, now!" I said.

"You're right, it does." Jay said.

He zapped me with his lightning and I got so mad that I threw another fireball and it hit him right in the stomach. The force was so hard he flew off the bounty and into the sea.

"Jay!" Kira yelled, trying to see him.

"Oh my gosh I'm so sorry I... I didn't mean to..."

"Save now, apologize later." Kira said handing me a life ring.

"Jay? Jay!" I screamed trying to find him, but I couldn't see him.

"Do you see him?" Kira asked me.

"No." I frowned. "Jay!"

All of a sudden, a giant sea dragon made of water appeared from the ocean, holding Jay in her mouth. She gently sat him down on the bounty, unconscious.

"Nya? Is that you?" I asked looking at her.

"Nya?" The dragon said looking at me. "Kai?"

"Yes Nya. It's me." I said. "Do you remember?"

"I... I do." Nya said. "Brother?"

Jay woke up coughing and gasping for air. Kira was there to heal him and help him sit up. He caught a sight of the dragon.

"Wait, is that... Nya?!" Jay smiled and walked up to her. "Nya! It's me, Jay. Do you remember me?"

"Jay? Kai?" She looked up.

All of a sudden she turned back into her human shape. We all looked over and saw her swimming in the water.

"Come on. I have an idea." Kira said to me.

Kira and I went and grabbed the old fish tank from the living room. We took the hose and filled it with water. Nya was able to leap into the tank.

"Get me away from the sea." Nya said, suddenly sounding like herself again. "Hurry, I can't resist the call for long."

Kira took the wheel and flew the ship towards the shore. Jay and I stayed with Nya by the tank trying to keep her head away from the sea. I could tell Jay was still mad at me for what I did, but he was so focused on Nya he wasn't going to act on that now.

"Where are we going?" Nya said.

"We're taking you home Nya." Jay said.

"Home? The sea is my home." Nya said.

"She's not resisting the call anymore." I frowned. "We have to do something to drown it out."

"I have an idea! I'll be right back." I said.

I ran to the cabin and grabbed Cole's old boombox. I hit play and the weekend whip started playing. Nya was looking at it and nodding her head to the music.

"It's working!" Jay smiled.

"Yeah." I smiled.

I looked over and Jay was holding his side.

"Did I hit you that hard?" I frowned and he nodded. "Jay I'm so sorry."

"Don't be. If you never hit me, Nya wouldn't have come to my rescue." Jay smiled.

"I mean about everything. I shouldn't have yelled at you like that. Not at the monastery, not here. I guess I was so distraught about Nya being gone, that I pushed my anger out on you, and that wasn't cool. I'm really sorry Jay."

"Thank you, and I'm sorry I wasn't helping out with the mission." Jay smiled and held out his fist. "Truce?"

"Truce." I gave him a fist bump.

"Ok guys, we're back." Kira said.

We arrived at the monastery and Cole and Lloyd were shocked to see Nya that way. With Cole's help we were able to carefully carry the tank downstairs.

"You were supposed to go there to help Jay say goodbye to Nya, not kidnap her." Lloyd said.

"She wanted to come back." I said. "This was the only way she could maintain her form."

"Yeah, and it was Kira's idea." Jay said.

"Is she supposed to live in there forever?" Cole asked, tapping on the glass.

"No, but this way we won't lose her again until we find a way to change her back." I said.

"And think about how long that could take." Lloyd frowned. "Wu and my mom have already been looking for a year and they haven't found anything. Do you really think we have a better chance?"

"Well no, but..."

"Guys, I miss Nya just as much as you, but this isn't the life that she wants." Lloyd frowned. "It's not fair to keep her locked up like this when she would be free in the sea."

"No!" Nya screamed. "I don't want to go back! You have to find a way, you have to."

"Don't worry, we will." Jay said putting his hand on hers through the glass.

"The only problem is we don't know how." Cole frowned.

"Maybe there's a way we can separate her from her powers." Lloyd said.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"If we can take the water power out of Nya, she would turn back to normal." Lloyd said.

"But that's impossible." Cole said.

"No it's not." Lloyd said. "Kai had his powers taken away, remember?"

"Yeah, I remember. Real well." I frowned. "And if you're thinking what I think you're thinking..."

"Lloyd you can't be serious." Kira said.

"What other choice do we have?" Lloyd said.

"Wait, I know of another way!" Cole said. "Do you the tournament of elements? When I was working for Chen, I heard him say the crystals he found to take our powers away were in a cave on the island."

"Chen's island is miles away. The journey alone would take two days at least." Lloyd said.

"Well we have to do something, unless we want Nya to be like this forever." I said.

"Echo? Echo?" Zane came in screaming. "Guys, I can't find Echo. Have you seen him?"

"Not since before we left to get Jay this morning." Cole said.

"He's probably just out for a walk or something." I said.

"Zane we have more pressing matters at the moment." I said, pointing to Nya. "We have to get to Chen's island so we can turn her back."

"Kai you found your sibling, but mine is missing now. I need to save him." Zane frowned.

"Zane?" Pixal came into the room.

"Pixal, did you find him?"

"Negative." She frowned. "I talked to Borg and he has not seen him either."

"Ow!" Zane held his ears again.

"What is wrong?" Pixal asked.

"I'm getting that interference again." He frustratedly took out his communicator.

"Wait Zane, let me hear it." Pixal said.

Pixal took the communicator and amplified the sound. It was very staticky and loud at first, but then she did some tweaking and it turned into beeping.

"Wait, that's Morse code!" Zane realized.

"It's spelling out SOS." Pixal said.

"Who is sending that too you?" Lloyd asked.

"I do not know, but I have a feeling it has something to do with Echo going missing." Zane said.

"Don't worry Zane, we'll help you find him." Cole said.

"But what about Nya?" Jay frowned.

"We'll split up." Lloyd said. "Kai, you and Cole head to Chen's island. I'll help Zane and Pixal go after Echo. Kira and Jay, you two watch Nya."

"Ok, let's go Cole." I said.

"Don't worry Nya, we'll have you back soon." Jay said hugging the tank. "No matter what, we're going to get you back.
