Farewell the Sea
Hey guys, I thought about starting a part two for this series, but I decided just to continue this one because I like the cover and it's been a long time since I've updated this book and I want people to be able to find it.
I would just like to say that this part of the story begins right after the events of Seabound. All the events in between the end of MOTO and Seabound did happen and are cannon to this series. There will be some differences explained through flashbacks, but the events are the same I just mixed up the characters to include Kira, Seliel, and Echo in the plot. All will be explained in time, but until then, enjoy!
Cole's P.O.V.:
It had been a long journey for me and my friends since Nya's memorial service. Benthomaar headed back to Merlopia to rule his kingdom, Seliel went back to Nom to help her village with the flood damage, Zane, Pixal and Echo were constantly keeping themselves distracted by repairing the monastery and our vehicles, and Lloyd, feeling responsible for Nya's decision to turn into the sea, had quit being a ninja all together and got a job as a window washer to pass the time. Kira kept trying to get through to him, but he wouldn't even listen to her. As for Kai, I heard he was somewhere teaching in his new monastery.
But poor Jay. For a whole year no one even knew where he was, but Echo thinks he could be at the old lighthouse. He doesn't remember how, but he said Jay and Nya had a strong connection related to that place, and if that's true that's likely where he went.
He was really depressed ever since she left and sometimes, so much so that I was afraid to leave him by himself, but all he ever wanted to do was be left alone.
"Lloyd? Lloyd?" Someone came into the monastery screaming.
I ran upstairs to see Kira in the courtyard. She seemed upset.
"Kira? Is everything ok?" I asked.
"Have you seen Lloyd? I have something important to tell him." She said.
"He's not here, he's at work." I said.
"Seriously? Ever since he took that stupid job he's forgotten who he is." Kira frowned. "It's like he doesn't have a purpose anymore."
"I know. We need to do something to get him out of his funk." I said.
"Well, I was going to tell him that I got a tip from Vania about the vengestone buyer. Maybe catching whoever that is will help him find himself again." Kira suggested.
"That's perfect. Let's go tell the others." I said.
"Yeah." Kira said.
Kira and I went downstairs to the basement where Pixal, Echo and Zane were working on a new vehicle.
"Hey." I said to them.
"Hi." Zane said back, not looking away from what he was doing.
"I got a tip about the vengestone buyer from Vania." Kira said. "We were thinking about rounding up the team again to go after them."
"I do wonder what the others are up to." Zane said. "I will accompany you."
"I think I'll go help Wu research the scrolls." Pixal said.
"I will stay here. I am almost finished with this." Echo said.
"Ok, we'll see you later." I said.
Kira, Zane and I took the bounty to Kai's monastery on the edge of town. He was teaching a class of kids.
"First position, go!" Kai screamed and the kids followed. "Second position, go!" The kids followed his commands. He pulled out a cardboard cutout of Kelmaar. "Greet your opponent!"
All the kids started attacking the thing all at once. They completely obliterated that thing.
"Remember kids, in a real fight we don't greet our opponents." Kai said. "What's the best defense?"
"To obliterate your enemy before they see you coming!" The kids yelled.
"Exactly. Class dismissed. See you next week." Kai said.
All of the kids ran out the door. We walked in to see Kai.
"So this is what ninja training is like?" Kira asked.
"Not exactly." Zane said.
"What are you teaching these kids Kai?" I asked.
"Yeah, I do not recall master Wu teaching us to "obliterate out enemies before they see us coming."" Zane recalled.
"I'm preparing these kids for the real world. There's bad guys out there and they don't play fair." He tossed me the cardboard Kelmarr head. "Or do I have to remind you what happened to Nya."
"The sea thing, I know." I frowned.
"We all miss her Kai." Kira frowned.
I was concerned about Kai. He didn't seem like himself, but to be honest I don't blame him. We all lost a part of ourselves that day, and it was the hardest on Kai and Jay.
"Now what's up? I got a kindergarten class in half an hour and they're like a pack of ravenous wolves. I gotta prepare mentally." Kai said.
"I gotta tip from Vania about the vengestone buyer, but we need your help." Kira said.
"Unless you'd rather deal with the wolf pack?" I said.
"Let's go." Kai said quickly grabbing his bag.
We left and headed to the apartment building where Lloyd was working. Zane waited on the bounty while me, Kira and Kai went up to cut him off. We opened the window to talk to him.
"Hey buddy. How's it going?" I smiled.
"Cole? Kai? Kira? What are you doing here?" He frowned.
"We're getting the team together to look into this vengestone thing." Kai said.
"We could use your help." Kira said.
"Sorry, but I've got a lot of windows to do." Lloyd said. "I appreciate the visit but I really gotta get back to work."
He lowered the lift to the floor below and we followed him.
"Come on buddy, you just can't give up." I said.
"Yeah whatever happened to ninja never qu..."
"Don't say it! Just don't! I don't wanna hear that!" Lloyd snapped at Kai. "I'm done, ok? I can't be responsible for anyone ever again. I just do windows now."
He lowered the lift again and I looked at my friends.
"What now?" Kai asked me.
"You guys go to the lighthouse and see if you can round up Jay." Kira said. "I'll stay and see if I can get through to him."
"Ok, good luck." I said.
Lloyd's P.O.V.:
I was continuing my work on the windows and through the window I saw a television set that had been left on. It was Gayle Gossip in front of the city canal.
"Plans are underway for a candlelight vigil to mark the sacrifice of Nya Smith, the elemental master of water, who saved Ninjago city exactly one year ago today." Gayle said holding a lantern. "How many will turn out in their honor? City officials are unsure, but this reporter for one will be there.
I still couldn't stop thinking about that day. As the leader of the team I never should've let her do it. I could've found another way to get us all out of that situation, but she turned into the sea before I even knew she did. I still blame myself.
"Lloyd." Kira knocked on the inside of the window while I was lost in thought. She opened the window to talk to me.
"What do you want?" I asked.
"I just wanna talk." She said.
"Kira I told you I'm busy." I said trying not to look at her.
"Come on Lloyd, we all miss Nya. She was my best friend, but that doesn't mean you should take the blame for that. She made a choice to turn into the sea and save Jay, us, and all the people of Ninjago."
"She may have saved Ninjago, but I couldn't save her." I frowned.
"Don't beat yourself up about it. She made a choice, what happened to Nya was not your fault, and I want you to remember that." She frowned. "I'll be at the lighthouse with Jay if you need me."
"Kira wait!"
Kira started to walk away, but I jumped through the window to stop her. I went so fast that the window slammed shut on my hand.
"Ow!" I screamed.
"Lloyd!" Kira ran back to help me and started healing my hand with her power. "Are you ok?"
"Yeah, I'm good. Sorry for blowing up at you before." I said. "I don't know what's been going on with me lately."
"It's ok, we're all a little stressed right now." She finished healing my hand. "How's that?"
"It feels alright now. Thanks." I said. "Come on, I'll take you to the lighthouse so we can go find Jay."
"Does this mean your back on the team?" She smiled.
"We'll see." I said.
I went with Kira and we took my mech to the lighthouse. Hopefully Jay was alright.
Jay's P.O.V.:
**********Flashback**********
I was laying on a couch, I could barely breathe. I tried to say something to Nya, but I couldn't get myself to speak.
"I wish we had more time, but we never seem to get a break." She said.
I felt her kiss my cheek. Through my squinting eyes I saw her walk out the door.
All of a sudden a blue glow came through the window and I sat up as the water in my lungs was drawn out of them, almost magically. I sat up coughing, but finally able to breathe normally.
"No!" Benthomaar yelled.
"What is she doing?" Wu asked.
"She is attempting to merge with the sea. But it is something that can never be undone. She will be lost forever." Bentho said.
"We must stop her!" Wu said.
They all ran out the door. I looked outside and realized what they were talking about. I walked up to the window and looked out at the water. I saw Nya but she was different. It was like she became one with the sea. I put my hand on the glass on top of hers and she smiled before dashing off.
"Nya! Wait!" I yelled, but then I coughed again.
I was so weak I could barely stand, but I wasn't going to let Nya do this by herself. I waddled my way through the building and met my friends on the roof. They agreed to fight with me and we took on Kelmaar and Wojira together.
When all was said and done, we, but mostly Nya, had saved Ninjago and defeated Kelmaar. We all met up with her on the rooftop.
"Nya! You did it!" I screamed.
I tried to give her a hug but my hands went right through her.
"That's gonna take some getting used to, but we'll figure out a way to change you back, don't worry." Kai said.
"Back?" Nya questioned.
"To normal. You know, the old you." I said.
"Normal?" She looked at her at her hands.
"What's wrong? Are you ok?" I asked.
She kept looking over my shoulder. "Do you hear it?"
"Hear what?"
"The sea, it's so loud." She kept looking at it. "So powerful."
"It calls to her." Bentho frowned.
Nya's form began to ripple and I was concerned.
"Sorry. It is difficult to maintain this shape." She said.
"What do you mean shape? That's what you are!" I said.
"What I was, yes. I have to go now." She started walking away. "I will remember you."
"Remember?" Kai spoke up. "What are you talking about? You're not going anywhere."
"Nya! Stop, wait, listen!" I ran in front of her. "Something is wrong with you. You have to concentrate. You have to focus, you have to turn back..."
She walked right through me. I tried to grab her hand but nothing worked.
"No! Don't leave me." I frowned.
She turned around and grabbed my hand. She brushed my cheek leaving a trail of water.
"Nya I implore you. Whatever you're hearing, whatever you're experiencing, fight it Nya!" Master Wu tried to say. "Remember who you are! Remember!"
"I am Nya. I am the sea. We are one." She said.
"Nya..." I looked at her. "I... I love you."
"Tell my mother I understand now. That's the way the cookie crumbles." Nya said.
She jumped off the building and became the sea. I tried to jump in after her but my friends pulled me back. There was nothing I could do. She was gone.
********End of Flashback********
Ever since the memorial, I took up residence in the old lighthouse. I didn't tell my friends or anyone I was here. I just missed her so much, and my friends just acted like they didn't care. It's like they completely forgot about her.
I sat looking out the lighthouse and stroking my beard looking out at the water. I always feel closer to Nya out here, surrounded by the sea.
I snapped out of my thoughts and I heard someone knocked on the door. I went to answer it.
Cole's P.O.V.:
Kai, Zane and I knocked on the door and Jay came to open it. His hair had gotten longer and he had a beard now. He was holding a glass of water.
"Jay? What happened to your face?" Kai asked.
"Time ravages us all..." He answered.
He proceeded to walk upstairs and we followed him.
"Uh Jay, why are there half full glasses of water everywhere?" Kai asked.
"They're half empty." Jay said.
"Ok, but why?" I asked.
"So I can talk to Nya." He said.
We all gasped and looked at each other.
"Nya became one with the ocean remember? Which means she's connected to all water everywhere. Which means part of Nya is inside that water glass, and that one, and that one, and that one..."
"Ok ok ok, we get it." Kai cut him off.
"Nya the guys are here." Jay said to a water glass. "What? Oh ok, I'll tell them. She says, Hi."
"Would you excuse us for a second Jay." I turned around to Kai and Zane. "What's wrong with him?!"
"I think the cheese slid off Jay's cracker." Kai whispered. "What do we do?"
"I will attempt to reason with him." Zane said. "Jay, Nya merged with the sea. Those cups are filled with tap water, therefore they cannot be connected to Nya. Your grief is impairing your judgement. You should return to the monastery."
"No thanks." Jay answered, still hugging the water glass.
"So much for reason." Kai crossed his arms.
"Jay, the people of Ninjago need us. Somewhere out there, right now, a villain is plotting something with a ton of vengestone, and we gotta stop them! What do you say?" I said.
"No thanks." Jay said again.
"Way to go Cole." Kai rolled his eyes.
"I'm not going anywhere." Jay said not looking at us. "Everyone else might have forgotten Nya, but not me."
"Nobody forgot her Jay." Kai frowned.
"Yes they did!" Jay yelled. "It's only been a year since Nya disappeared and it's like nobody cares anymore! They just moved on with their lives. But Nya's still gone and nobody even remembers!"
"Jay we'll always remember." I frowned.
"Nya was my sister, and I'd do anything for her, but she's not here." Kai frowned.
"Please come with us." Zane said.
"I can't. I'm sorry." Jay frowned looking outside.
We were about to leave the lighthouse, but then I looked outside and saw something.
"Jay you gotta see this!" I said.
"It's amazing!" Kai smiled.
"What is it?" He asked.
We went outside and saw the lanterns floating in the ocean. They all had really heartfelt messages to Nya written on them.
"It's beautiful." Lloyd said as he was walking up to us. Kira was behind him.
"You came." I smiled.
"What changed your mind?" Kai asked.
"Well, Kira talked some sense into me." Lloyd said smiling at her. "She made realize that Nya wouldn't want us to quit. If she saw us like this, she'd kick our butts and tell us to get back to work."
"You got that right." Kira laughed.
"Ow!" Jay said ripping his beard off his face. "That hurt."
We all put our hands in the middle and smiled at Jay. Then he put his hand in too.
"So what do you say? For Nya?" Lloyd said.
"For Nya." We all replied.
It felt good to have the team back together again.
Echo's P.O.V.:
I was in the repair bay working on my vehicle. I could hear something scurrying behind me.
"Hello? Is anyone there?" I asked.
I heard the scurrying sounds again and I followed them to the tunnel behind the monastery. I still couldn't see anything.
"Hello?" I yelled.
"Hello." Someone in the distance said.
As they approached I saw they were wearing a kabuki mask and black trench coat.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"You should know that Echo. I'm the one who made you stronger. The one who made you better."
"Wait, no. That's impossible." I started backing up slowly.
"Nope, I've been here the whole time. Now come on, we have a meeting with the Overlord."
"The Overlord?" My eyes widened. "No! I will not go with you! You don't control me anymore!" I yelled.
"I'm sorry Mr. E, but you don't have a choice." They laughed.
"No! NOOOO!!!!"
They zapped me and I was knocked offline...
