Chapter Three: Temptaint

DEKU'S P.O.V

"Who are you?!" I demand, knees shaking as I position them to stand my ground, unable to understand what I'm looking at. He just leans against the grate surrounding the roof, as though he doesn't care if the fencing collapses from behind him. However, with my words, he stands, and a grin stretches across his pale features. I swear there lie a multichrome array of scales in the hollows of his cheeks.

'You don't know me? Now, that is a shame,' he hums, taking a step towards me. In response, I shift backwards, heart stammering in my chest. Why can't I calm down? I've faced villains who could disintegrate me in one touch. I've been pinned down by a quirk and managed to break out of it. So why? Why can't I force myself to run?! 'I'm sorry for scaring you so. You poor little leaf.' And then he's right beside me, moving so quickly my eyes can't even keep track of him.

His hand lands on my waist, and claw-like nails press into my shirt. It takes all I have to not let out a startled scream. I can't. If anyone else comes up here, who knows what this thing will do to them? 'Now, you've probably figured the obvious. And I commend you for that. You truly are the brightest of your peers,' he purrs, a long, thin tail flicking around behind him. Honestly, I can't really tell just what's grazing my cheek, but horns frame either side of my face, holding me in a threatening prison with his eyes.

"You're a demon," I rasp, voice trembling as much as my twitching muscles. What do I do? Should I use my quirk? Should I try to fight? They wanted us to kill a demon so... Was this the one they meant? My thoughts are abruptly sliced with one of his barks of laughter. A laugh that doesn't meet his gleaming, golden irises and pitch sclera.

'Ding ding, we have a winner. My, you're sharp,' he croons, easing himself away from me. From here, I can easily make out the distinct patterns twisting over his skin, shimmering in the otherwise harmless sunlight. However, the longer I look at them, the less they start to look like scales. They're shifting, flickering like-

Flies. They're flies, clinging to his face like gemstones. 'Hm? You seem very interested in my pretties,' he hums, running a nail alongside his hollowed temple, a shudder jolting through me as one of the insects crawls onto his knuckle. I'm in over my head. I can't fight him, and I don't even know why. He's just... Terrifying. I can't move- I can't even think. All Might, what do I do?! Someone tell me what to do! 'Don't look so scared. They're desperate to meet you, you know.' As he paces around me, his tail swirls past my ankles, the fur brushing against the fabric of my jeans. And I just stand in place, rigid and whimpering. I'm not weak, but if I make a scene, the others will hear. This isn't any place to fight a demon.

"I'm not scared of you," I say, flinching at the buzzing in my ear. "All the flies are because of you, aren't they? That's why there's so many of them."

'You're on quite the ball today, my boy. Well done.' His praise couldn't sound any falser. And that shoots a whole new round of fear through my system. So it's little wonder why I jump with a soft yelp when he wraps his arms around me from behind, setting his chin on my shoulder. Like it was built to hold his head up high. 'So then you'll no doubt be the first to figure out what the students of True Cross are hiding.' I gasp, physically feeling my eyes widen.

What? What does he mean? I haven't even spoken properly to the rest of the students yet. Just Rin, and his brother Yukio. We saw them all at the station, but other than a few hellos, we barely talked. So what makes him think- 'I suppose you're wondering what makes me think you'll ever have any doubts. Well, you're a bright spark, little leaf. You can spot a demon, just by looking.' His grip tightens, his nails drawing blood out of my arms. 'That's a handy skill. You just have to look a little harder.'

Enough. That's enough!

"You're just a demon! You'd say anything to try and mess with my head! Lies are all your kind are good for!" I cry, finally forcing myself to struggle in his hold. And... He lets me go. Of course, I don't question it- I just let myself stumble away from him, nearly tripping over my own feet as I throw as much distance between the two of us as I possibly can. Just in time to watch his body burst into a torrent of flies, connected by strings of swirling mist.

'You couldn't be closer to the truth. Ask Rin. I'm sure he will agree with you.' Even without a body, his voice shatters my nerves and strangles my willpower. I can't fight him. But, the second I try to run, the flies swarm around me, securing my limbs and tangling me up in the webs of smoke.

I finally scream.

RIN'S P.O.V

"And that's that!" I chirp, grinning as I set the last pot down on the counter, apron barely stained at all. It took a hell of a long time, and even more effort to keep all the damn flies away from the food, but it's all finally ready! "Man, I hope they actually like it all." As I finish wrapping up all the food to keep it out of nature's way, I just hum and smile to myself. I wanna get on with everyone. If I rub them the wrong way from day one, they'll always suspect me. I mean, according to Yukio.

Speaking of.

"Oh, hey, four eyes!"

"Rin, is everyone upstairs?"

"Far as I know. Just finished making food. Why, is everything alright? You're all sweaty, man. Gross."

"We need to evacuate them immediately." Wait WHAT?! Evacuate?! Even now, staring at my brother, I still can't really process what he means, despite the look of sheer dread on his freckled features. Damn. Must be serious. "I'm not joking, Rin! Get everyone out now!"

"Wha- Yukio! Hold on!" I yelp, stumbling over my own feet as my twin takes off up the stairs without me, leaving me with no explanation. "Just what the hell's going on?! Answer me, dammit!"

"There's no time!" He snaps, turning to face me and suddenly gripping onto my shirt. "Can't you get it through your head? When I tell you to do something, you do it, alright?!"

"Y'know, you're gonna bust a vein one day."

"This isn't the time for joking around! There's a Fallen here, and we're responsible for a group of kids who've never seen a demon before!" Well that ain't true, is it? They've seen me. But I decide to at least keep that remark to myself, just following my brother as he makes rounds to all of the rooms. He doesn't give much time to explain- he just orders everyone to head to an underground passageway, handing his Skeleton Key to whoever's the most responsible in the group. Obviously, the class rep steps up, and of course it's the guy who ran off so fast he nearly blew me off my feet. How the hell did he make a perimeter run and get back so fast?!

"Wait! Where's Deku?"

"Dek-who?"

"Deku! Izuku! Where is he?!" The bubbly, soft brunette in the front squeaks with panicked eyes darting all over the place, worry casting a glaze over her features. "He's not here. Who saw him last?!"

And then comes the scream, loud enough for all of us to hear. Faces turn grim, and almost everyone's skin drains of its colour until Class 1A appear as a collective shade of ashen. "Deku?"

"Rin, get everyone down to the basement tunnels. I can handle this, just make sure they're safe," Yukio instructs, taking the key back from Iida and placing it in my hand, closing my fingers around it. Oh, like I can really just run away and let him fight whatever's made it in by himself.

"No way. I'm not leaving you."

"You'll do as I say, and that's an order." He growls, darkness falling over his eyes. "You can't do anything to help." Wow. That hits a bit too hard in the chest, but it strikes me like a shot of holy water. Don't ask. Bon dared me. But still... He's not wrong. Without my sword, and without my flames, I'm kinda useless.

"Fine. But soon as they're outta the way, I'm coming back to help you," I growl, nudging my brother as I pass him, turning to face the class. Only to realise there's a missing outline. Someone's gone, and all I catch is a flash of blonde before an explosion decimates the ceiling above our heads. Pieces of plaster and tile rain down, and it takes most of everyone's effort just to avoid the debris. "Who the hell was that?"

"For the love of- Get them outta here. NOW!" Yukio snaps, refusing to hang around anymore. There's no point trying to disobey now, so I just look over at the assortment of frightened faces. Damn you, Yukio.

"Well you heard him. Let's move!"
