Chapter 35: Invaders
Colton had returned along with Jake later that evening since the sisters did not want to separate... Even though he did not wish to. Jake was smiling, a genuine smile, the whole run home. Colton had asked him as to what has caused it, his answer was a simple... 'a piece of heaven.' They both returned as his father asked if the family would be joining them in the morning. Both young men giving a solid nod as Desmond requested a private conversation with his son. Jake took that as his queue to disperse.
"Is your mate alright?"
"She is well. She wanted to be with her sister's this evening."
"Son, you are aware you will have to talk with her about her living arrangements-"
"When and what I discuss with her is my business and mine alone." Colton says cutting off his father with a clipped tone.
Desmond straightens his spine and raises his chest looking to his son. "You both will be safer with her here, you know this."
"I do." He says nodding his head keeping eye contact. "However I dare anyone to attack that house and survive."
He left his dad standing there while making his way to his room. Desmond's eyes following his form. A mix of pride and frustration oozing from him. A soft hand to his waist and a body form to his side makes sparks dance along him. He looks down to her green eyes giving him a soft smile.
"Let it go"
Penny interlaces her fingers with Desmond and leads him up to their room. All begin to lay down for the evening not aware of the dangers that are upon them. The four sisters all laying in one bed while Grace lays down with a smile knowing her girls are home.
That is until a soft sound resonates in her room. She turns her head to find someone and before she screams, the person injects her arm and her vision goes black. Her body landing with a thud on her bedroom floor. Nessa's head snapping up from it's sleep hearing the sound. She looks around at her sisters that are all perfectly asleep before gently nudging Kacia. The wolf's eyes shining brightly before blinking rapidly to return to their chocolate tone. Nessa holds her finger to her lips. Her eyes turning red making Kacia nod and blink as her eyes turn vibrant once again.
Kacia follows her sister as they slowly lift themselves from the comfort of the bed. Their eyes locked on the door before slowly peeling it open. Nessa and Kacia both smelling the odd scents lingering. There are multiples. Nessa allows for her teeth to elongate and Kacia feels her nails sharpen. The creaking of a board makes Nessa whip into speed down throwing Grace's door open. A man already has a gun pointed at her. She weaves dodging the dart but his assailant shot another dart as she made contact with the first intruder. The dart lodged into her arm making her freeze momentarily. A loud growl making her look to the door. She finds Kacia fighting off someone else.
"KACIA!"
Kacia turns her head even as it is pinned to the floor to find Belle standing in front of a wide eyed Tara. Belle feels her blood run cold finding all these intruders evading her home. Kacia pinned to the ground as a person dressed in black injects her making her body go limp. Looking up she finds someone stepping out of her mother's room with a slumped Nessa within her arms.
"WHO ARE YOU?!"
Her body begins creating fire but a scream from behind her makes her turn to find Tara being held with a needle at her neck. Before she can react a pinch to her arm makes her whip her head finding a dart in her arm. Her last sight being that of Tara whimpering before all fades to darkness.
The group of intruders all lift each of the girls including their mother before making a swift exit. Not wasting time. They go into a van that fades away into the night. The door the home left open in their haste. Not realizing what a grave mistake they are in for. As they were told to retrieve a family of woman. They did not know the family was mix and could not keep their minds from wondering why they were to retrieve this group.
The night fades into morning and Colton's chest feels heavy. He gets up feeling the pressure and groans. He gets his footing and changes quickly. Hollering for Jake to get ready. He feels it... something is wrong. The scurrying around awakes his parents along with the Elders. Some pack members also looking on in confusion. Colton doesn't hesitate before quickly running into the forest conjoining his pack land to the Roman's home. It only takes a matter of minutes to show up and what Colton sees makes his heart race.
The door to their home is wide open, he races into the house and inhales smelling wolves that he does not know. He launches up the stairs with Jake's quick steps behind him. He stops at the top of the stairs. The hall desk lays broken. A few broken items on the ground showing a struggle. Jake runs past him into the girl's room. He follows to find the bed rumpled up and no girls. Colton feels his wolf coming forward. He growls lowly making the whole house shake. A groan catches Jake's attention and he dashes off. Colton continues staring at where he left his mate in the security of his family the night before.
"Colton!"
Colton's chest still heaving, he rips his eyes away turning to find where Jake went. Farther down the hall another groan is heard making him follow the sound. He ends up in the doorway to what he is presuming is Grace's room. Lying on the floor is Grace now with Jake holding her head on his lap. Colton breathes deeply as he kneels down beside her. Her eyes trying to flutter open.
"What the hell happened man?"
Colton just shakes his head negatively as he sees an object lying on the ground. He reaches over to pick it up before his wolf begins clawing at his insides. Jake looks at to finding a small dart in his hand. Jake takes it as he sees Colton's wolf battling with him.
"Colton man, we need to get her to the house."
Colton gives a jerky nod before racing out of the house. He barely makes it through the door before his body transforms. His fur coating him as his teeth elongate and he is own all fours. He howls loudly and begins sniffing around the home. A moment later, his head whips around to find Jake standing there with a groaning Grace in his hold.
"Let's go Colton!"
Colton snarls and snaps his jaw at the command but Jake pays him no attention as he turns and begins jogging into the forest. Colton jerks his head around trying to catch a whiff of his mate but find none. He growls loudly again before turning and running into the forest. He easily surpasses Jake and runs directly to the pack house.
Standing at the front door is his father. He transforms back to his human form even with his wolf's disapproval. His eyes still shining like amber beacons. His father steps down the stairs as his mother opens the front door. Colton can't even form a sentence. Desmond sees the shape his son is in and heard the howl. He goes to open his mouth when he finds Jake jogging in behind him. His wife instantly running past him to go to the young man. Jake looks to his alpha.
"They were attacked."
Colton growls pacing back and forth. His feet practically begging to change back into paws. Penny directs Jake into the house as she looks to her friend with sorrowful eyes. Desmond turns his attention to his son.
"Colton, breathe"
Colton's illuminating eyes snap to his father. "MY mate was TAKEN... DO. NOT. TELL ME. TO FUCKING BREATHE."
Desmond takes a step down to his son. He already sees the way his body shakes. He lowers his hands to his sides slowly. "It will do no good if you can not think to find her."
Colton hears the truth in his words but his wolf is on edge. He attempts to breath but can feel his breath coming out shaky. Desmond gives him a moment before gesturing for him to come in. Colton goes directly to the infirmary hoping Grace can give some answers. They pass an Elder on the way that follows them.
"What is going on?" The woman ask. Desmond doesn't stop walking as he answers her.
"The Roman household was attacked."
The woman silently follows the two alphas. Colton going directly to Grace's side. Her body still out of it as she tries to pry her eyes open. His mother holding her hand and brushing her forehead. Jake standing at the foot of the bed with his arms cross. His body now rigid as a board. Colton looks to Jake who's eyes are flickering yellow. Desmond turns to the beta.
"What happened?"
Jake pulls the object out of his pocket and Desmond takes it looking it over. The woman standing beside him looks at it.
"We arrived to find the door open. There was a struggle with broken items. The girls room was empty and Grace was on the ground with that beside her."
"It's a tranquilizer."
All heads turn to the woman. She slowly reaches for the item as Desmond hands it to her. Her eyes studying it closely.
"It has a powerful serum that makes it's victims instantly black out." She turns it over inspecting it. "With the amount in this dart, they should be out for a day or so."
Colton growls loudly and grips his mate's mothers hand trying to find comfort. Desmond turns back to the woman.
"Do you know who produces these?"
"We do." With that all look to her again. "We created this serum to help in the transport of rogues."
Colton stands up and Desmond quickly steps in. "Did you attack them!"
"Absolutely not." She says calmly as the doors open to the infirmary. More Elders coming in. Jake growls warningly. Penny snaps her eyes to him not expecting that reaction. Her eyes moving back to the woman. "We have no reason to attack them. We believe them to be an asset."
"A few other packs carry them as well for interrogation." A man speaks up recognizing the dart.
Jake walks instantly to him grabbing him by the collar. People step back as his eyes glow. His voice coming out more deadly than anyone has ever heard. "Who"
"JAKE!"
Desmond says but the beta pays no mind still holding the Elder by the throat. Desmond can't move as he continues holding his son back. Penny gets up to go to him but the man speaks and the room goes deadly silent.
"The closest pack to have it is the Northern Crescent Pack."
