Chapter 39: The One Who Unlocks You

I look around after entering the mirror and find myself almost as if I were hovering over a girl around my age who looks slightly older and is wearing a black and red ballroom dress with red heels along with a choker that looks exactly like my necklace, except it's a black lace choker with a red jewel in the center. Her hazel eyes scan around the ballroom, which is a giant room full of looming windows, tall, golden pillars made out of marble that have tan designs spiraling around them as if they were vines, tan and white tiled checkerboard flooring, and a giant gold, white, and tan chandelier with red jewels hangs above the middle of the ballroom floor. As her hazel eyes look around it's as if I can feel everything that she feels and every emotion that she feels.

"I wonder where Atlas is..."

My eyes widen in surprise as I hear her thoughts run through my own head as if she were saying them aloud. The girl's lips form into a sly, slightly seductive smile as she spots a guy with blond hair and red eyes. As she makes her way across the ballroom floor a man grabs her by the waist and leans down close to her ear.

"Miss, why do you insist on wasting your time on him?" The man says and she turns her head to the side.

"You wouldn't understand," The girl sighs and manages to break free of his hold whenever the blond makes his way over and narrows his eyes at the man.

The blond haired boy grabs the girl by the arm and pulls her into his arms and the other man turns away, shoulders slouching with defeat.

"Hello, Atlas," The girl smiles and her hazel eyes shine even though she isn't looking at him.

"Haven," Atlas says, "You really are troublesome."

"I wonder who made me that way?" Haven raises a brow and Atlas turns her around to face him.

"May I have this dance?" Atlas asks.

"You would take it anyways," Haven sighs and Atlas smirks.

Atlas places one of his arms around her waist and clasps his free hand with hers, while she puts her other hand on his shoulder. They begin to dance and whirl through the ballroom, his black and blood red cloak swirling around and her dress flaring out when they spin.

"You're stubborn, you know that?" Atlas says as they continue to dance.

"Oh?" Haven raises a brow, "How so?"

"You know how so," Atlas says and she almost laughs.

"And you're quite the cold hearted one, but I believe that I've managed to get through to you," Haven says.

"Hmm," Atlas glances away for a moment before looking back at her, "What makes you say that? You know I cannot stand people. You of all people frustrate me the most, too."

"I only frustrate you the most because you love me, isn't that right, Atlas?" Haven questions.

"No," He says and whirls her around once more, "You frustrate me the most because whenever we first met your very existence annoyed me. I could not stand the sight of you, much less the things that you would do, the things that you would say. You aggravated me so."

"And now?" Haven raises a brow as her hazel eyes search his red ones.

"And now I suppose you might have a point," He says in an annoyed manner.

"I see," Haven says, "So what do you intend to do about it?"

Atlas's lips form into a smirk and he dips her and lowers his head down to her neck.

"You really shouldn't have seduced a Vampire, especially me," Atlas smirks.

"Naturally," Haven smirks back at him, "But I love you."

Atlas bends down further and his lips part to reveal his fangs as he hovers above her neck. His eyes flutter closed as he bites her and pulls her closer against him.

I gasp as I feel a slight pain in my own neck and I can feel the amount of love that she has for him radiating within my own chest. Her necklace glows as I stare at it and it almost seems to send out bolts of electricity before the scene changes.

"I don't care that I'm not a Vampire!" Haven shouts and runs after him down the dark corridor of a castle where the only light comes from orb lights hanging on the left wall with candles inside them and the black arches on the right wall that lead out to the night sky which is riddled with stars and a bright, full moon.

"You're just a Human!" Atlas snaps as he whirls around on her and hurt flashes through her eyes, "I'm a Vampire Prince, don't you get that?"

"Are you...are you afraid?" Haven's lips part in a surprised expression and she raises her eyebrows.

"No!" He snaps and glances to the side for a moment before looking back at her, "I'm saying you're not worthy of me."

She sucks in a breath as he turns back around sharply and storms down the hallway. Her hazel eyes begin to mist over with tears as she watches his figure fade and once he turns around the corner she sinks down to her knees and begins to cry on the floor in her black and red dress. I frown and stare at her with sympathy, wanting to reach out and comfort her, but I can't.

The scene changes once again and this time Haven is sitting in a bedroom crying. She wipes her eyes as a knock appears on the door and as she slowly makes her way to the door the knocking increases.

"I'm coming," She sighs, "Hang on, hang on."

She unlocks and opens the door to find Atlas standing on the other side with a determined look on his face.

"Atl--"

The sound gets lost in his mouth as he crashes his lips on hers roughly after walking over to her. He kicks the door shut with his foot and holds her against him as he continues to kiss her and he backs her up further into the room. He pulls apart after a few minutes and breathes heavier than usual, his eyes searching hers. She stares at him in surprise and at a loss for words.

"I'm sorry," He says and lays kisses all over her face and her neck, "I'm so sorry. I was wrong. I--I didn't mean to yell at you. You were right and I was afraid that I would hurt you...I'm sorry."

"H--Hey!" She gasps as he bites her and his grip on her waist tightens.

Her surprised expression soon fades into one of serenity and she smiles slightly. He pulls back after a few moments and she holds his face in her hands, tracing over his cheekbones, and he seems to lean into her touch.

"It's okay," Haven says and smiles at him, "I just...I really love you."

He leans back in and they kiss as she moves her hands up to his hair and runs her fingers through it.

I find myself flustered and blushing from the last scene, feeling what Haven felt towards Atlas, and as if I had intruded on their moment. I stare around at a new scene, which is a room with black and red checkerboard floors and walls the color of midnight with a large staircase.

"Haven, wait!" Atlas shouts and runs through the room after her, pushing open the giant double doors with ringed handles and racing down the white, marble stairs to the outside garden.

Atlas stops whenever he finds Haven standing in the garden full of roses and hedges and he stares at her suspensefully. Haven turns around slowly with one of her hands pressed to the gem in her choker and her eyes search his.

"It hurts..." She says and tears well up in her eyes as she starts to fall over.

Atlas races over to her and catches her in his arms before she hits the ground. He stares at her with wild eyes and watches as electricity emits from her choker. Suddenly a bright red light flashes and little specks of glowing red dust particles float around after the flash of light and all of the electricity in Haven's choker suddenly stops.

"Haven?" Atlas questions and he notices that her eyes fluttered shut, "Haven?!"

He shakes her slightly by the shoulders and a few moments later she opens her eyes to reveal them being red instead of their normal hazel color.

"Atlas?" She questions weakly.

He cries out with joy and strokes the side of her face as he smiles, his eyes showing relief.

"You're a Vampire!" He shouts happily and swirls her around in his arms.

"Huh?" She says and he stops spinning her.

She takes a moment to take in her surroundings and she moves her index finger to her lips and parts them, checking for fangs. She pulls her finger back and notices a drop of blood forming on the tip of it.

"I'm a Vampire..." She trails off before looking up at Atlas and smiling, "I'm a Vampire!"

She cheers and throws her arms around his neck as he picks her up and swirls her around, laughing.

"The one who brings the light into your heart shall be the one who unlocks you, let love be your guide..."

"What?" My eyes widen in surprise at the strange woman's voice, "What is that supposed to mean? Who are you?"

Suddenly the vision of Atlas and Haven fades and I find myself being pulled out of the mirror. I blink in surprise when I find myself standing in front of the mirror I entered with my hand touching it, making it ripple. I pull my hand back and step away from the mirror before frowning and looking around, seeing that only Amorette and Salem have exited their mirrors so far.

"Let love be your guide..." I mutter, "I wonder what she meant..."
