They made it all the way to lobby before encountering security. Strange wasn't entirely sure how they'd found it, as the underneath of this place was a maze of corridors, but they still had quite a way to go until the 200th floor.
He peered around the corner cautiously, as close as he dared get to the fire. There were a bunch of security monsters huddled together, and they seemed to be heading their way. Stephen overheard what they were saying.
"Why were we sent down here again?" one was complaining. "I was enjoying the party upstairs."
"Boss said to check on the soul prison thing," another one explained, sounding bored. "A couple of mortals disappeared and he wants to make sure they definitely went to eternal torture rather than someone breaking them out. Doesn't sound like he's that worried about it."
"So it's nothing to do with those prisoners?" asked another one. "The Sorcerer Supreme guy and the god?"
The second guy gave a laugh. "No. No-one's escaped that cell in 500 years. You really think those two would get out?"
Strange nearly did an embarrassing happy dance. Mephisto had noticed something but he thought it was no big deal, nor had he expected they'd escaped. He wasn't so thrilled when he realised they were about 10 metres away. Next to him, Loki tightened his grip on his knife and Scott flipped on his helmet and gripped his new shrink gun.
The security monsters came around the corner, and they exclaimed in surprise or horror.
"Hi," he said, then (pun alert) all hell broke loose.
It was approximately 10 vs 4. The monsters stood no chance.
"Hey, Strange!" Loki called over to Stephen. "We're allowed to kill, right?"
"This is one of those rare situations when I say yes, Loki!" Strange told him, firing a blast of magic at some other monsters. He didn't normally kill, but in this case, monsters were different and eventually respawned anyway. When they died they turned to dust (they'd seen it happen not too long ago). Also, they couldn't let them tell Mephisto what had happened.
"Great!" Loki shouted, way too enthusiastically for someone contemplating murder.
Scott was having the time of his life trying his new toys. He shrunk a couple of monsters just to test, until they were so small he couldn't see them anymore. Every now and again, just for fun, he'd resort to his old trick of shrinking, then growing suddenly and giving monsters uppercuts to the chin and shrinking before they could grab him. That trick never got old.
As for Wanda and Strange, they were fighting side by side, and each of them had saved the other's life at least once apiece. Both of them preferred to knock the monsters out with a blast of energy or blast them into the fire walls rather than physically killing them.
"Just like Las Vegas all over again," Wanda said to him as they fought.
"Just where I have magic and actually can use both my legs and this time we're in a hellish casino?" asked Stephen in return.
Wanda laughed. "Yep. Just like that. This is the first time I've ever actually been in a casino but I'm assuming this is an abnormal event to happen in one."
"Pretty much sums it up."
Stephen noticed one of the monsters try and call for backup and knocked the walkie-talkie out its hand and pushed the monster into the fire. Wanda broke the walkie-talkie.
There was a moment of silence, interrupted only by their breathing.
Loki surveyed the empty floor, covered in monster dust, wiping the blood off his dagger. "Good job guys," he said.
No one said anything. Then, displaying their amazing teamwork, in perfect synchronisation they continued onwards, heading towards the ways of transportation to the 200th floor.
