*Trouble on Earth*
"Yeosang, there's a demon causing trouble down on Earth. Seek the son of a man with two-toned hair working at an establishment of Hell itself. Your job is to negotiate with them and convince them to return to Hell. If they refuse, you know what to do."
------------------------------
Yeosang grunted in pain as he landed face first on the dirt ground. Falling from heaven was much more painful than he expected. Not letting the pain get to him, the young angel hastily stood to his feet, looking around for any source of demonic energy. Not that he'd find any here seeing as he landed in the middle of the woods. He let out a huff of irritation. Yeosang stretched his arm out. His hand glowed with a bright aura, a large, golden sword soon appearing in his hand. He smirked. Though part of his assignment was to attempt negotiations, Yeosang was much more fond of the other, quicker and more entertaining method.
This was his first mission on Earth and he wanted it to be fast and stylish to impress the other angels. To do that, however, he needed to find out where the heck he even was.
He was given no names, faces or helpful specifics. All Yeosang had to go off of was that his target was a demon causing trouble and was the son of a worker, nothing more. Yet what was life without a little challenge though? He was sure he'd find his target in time. He made sure to run though all the steps he was taught. First, find a traceable source of dark magic. Yeosang closed his eyes, trying his best to focus on his surroundings. He heard the rustling of leaves, the gibberish of the small animals and he could feel the life around him - no traces of dark energy.
Next step, find civilisation and detect anything strange. Easier said than done. Yeosang arched forward, ready to take flight yet nothing came. In shock, he felt around his back but his wings weren't present. "Are you kidding me?" Seems he was going to have to walk. How mundane. Thankfully, Yeosang could sense human life not too far from him. Still, this was so beneath him. He was an angel for heaven's sake, he should be treated as such.
Unfortunately, Yeosang was about to learn the hard way that Earth didn't necessarily follow Heaven's rules.
Using his expert navigational skills (he walked around in circles for about thirty minutes), Yeosang was finally able to locate some people. It was a crossing of sorts that led right into a busy city. The young angel was both confused and intrigued by the bustling sight in front of him. It was his first time in a civilian area and the odd vehicles racing all around him almost called him to walk forward. It was due to this call that he slowly made his way towards the road in front of him with great curiosity. One of these vehicles came to a grinding halt, stopping just inches before the young blonde, with the driver angrily storming out to meet him.
"You dumbass kid!" The irritated human shouted, shaking his fist wildly at Yeosang like some sort of lunatic. "What the hell are you doing in the middle of the road?" The angel scoffed at this angry offence. He felt the need to flair his wings yet was disappointedly reminded that they were no longer there.
"How dare you? I am Kang Yeosang, great angel of swiftness, heir to all that is great in the heavens above and trained under the archangel- '' By now however, the man was looking at Yeosang as if he was the crazy one and simply waved the boy off.
"Angel of swiftness my ass, spoiled kid..." A wave of irritation washed over Yeosang as he suddenly dashed behind the human and slammed his head down against his vehicle. Cars passing the incident awkwardly swerved past both trying to avoid an accident yet still trying to catch a glimpse of the conflict.
"I'm looking for a man of two-toned hair," He hissed in the squirming man's ear. "He resides at an establishment of Hell and I must find his son. Take. Me. To. Him. NOW!"
"I-I-I-I don't know what you're talking about!" The man cried. "Go to Hell's Kitchen, I don't know, just let me go!" Yeosang raised his brow with a hum. He threw the man to the ground without care and took his leave. In what looked like a flash of light he zoomed a top of the nearest building only to fall from a crippling headache a few moments later.
The angel cringed at this strange occurrence. What was this strange energy holding him down? It didn't matter to him. He was going to off this unbearable rock in no time. "Hell's Kitchen? Why don't I pay that place a little visit."
------------------------------
Jongho sat with his head rested in his hands and a scowl present on his face. He stared aimlessly at the math equations in front of him, about five minutes away from throwing them out the nearest window. "Stupid calculus, it's not like I'll ever need this in my future anyway."
"True, but right now you need it to pass the term." The teen slowly looked up to see Mingi standing over him with a smile and a piece of red velvet cake in his hands. Jongho thanked him as the man handed him the slice of cake as well as a fork to go with it. "God am I glad I'm not you. I dropped math as soon as possible."
Jongho rolled his eyes while the two-toned brunette chuckled. He reached over and flicked him on the arm, only for Mingi to reel back in pain. "Oh god I'm so sorry!"
"Don't worry about it Jongie, I'm fine." Mingi had been extremely understanding with all of Jongho's strength mishaps. From his bed, the granite counters to the mugs (Which Mingi confessed he had already broken most of, alongside Yunho) he was very forgiving. It made Jongho want to learn better control just so he wouldn't have to inconvenience him anymore.
"Hey Mingi, could you take over the counter?" Asked Hongjoong from the register.
"Oh, sure thing hyung!" Mingi gave Jongho a quick pat on the back before grabbing something from Hongjoong. The older man was about to speak yet stopped himself when he finally noticed Jongho sitting at a seat near the window, quietly enjoying his cake. He furrowed his brow at this before his eyes widened and he rushed to the kitchen. Neither Mingi nor Jongho thought much of it until Seonghwa came out by Hongjoong's side. "Who's this Mingi?" He asked in a forcefully casual tone.
"This is Jongho," He smiled. Hearing his name, the young teen perked up but shrunk away when he saw all three looking at him. "I...um...I'm looking after him!" The couple glanced at him sceptically then gave Jongho a similar look before Seonghwa clapped his hands together.
"Right well I was going to send Hongjoong out but since you're not busy do you mind grabbing a few things for me?" Without another word Seonghwa shoved a list in Mingi's hand and pushed him towards the door, despite the brunette's protests. "I'm not paying you for nothing! We'll watch over him for you, take your time." Once he was out a good while from the building Seonghwa shifted his attention back to Jongho in a sharp turn. Jongho flinched at the intense look and glanced at Hongjoong for some sort of help yet he seemed equally as vexed.
"Listen, you must've slept through containment because you should know that interfering with innocent human's is against the rules. So what do you want with Mingi?" Hongjoong growled.
"W-What do you mean?" Seonghwa slammed his fist on the table sending everything into the air and causing Jongho to gasp.
"You know what he means! What is your reason for leaving Hell and what are your intentions with Mingi?" Seonghwa's eyes started to flick between black and white, darkening almost entirely each time. That's when Jonho realised, these were demons, just like him. Could they be the one's Yunho was sent here for? Mingi had relayed a few things about the species that he had learned from Yunho, and one of those things was that demons could be extremely territorial. That must be the case now.
He'd just have to explain that he wasn't like them. "L-Listen! I'm not like you, I'm new to this, like...really new to this. I only just realised I had powers!" That seemed to make the older demons calm down a bit, as they started to glance at each other in confusion.
"But...how is that even possible?" Hongjoong questioned aloud. "The demonic energy around you is so potent."
"It's probably because his powers are so fresh. My guess is that Mingi didn't know when he took him in and they only just started acting up." Jongho wanted to correct him, but he didn't want to get his caretaker in trouble. Mingi obviously understood that he was a demon the moment they first met, despite clearly being human himself. Yet from the looks of it, neither Seonghwa nor Hongjoong were out as demons themselves. It would be better for Jongho to just keep his mouth shut until everyone was caught up.
"I don't want to cause any trouble and I don't want to hurt anyone. I'm practically a human so why would I want to bother other people?"
Seonghwa scoffed. "Oh please, don't compare yourself to those low life's- Ow!" He reeled back when Hongjoong jabbed him in the stomach. "Anyway, you're not even close to being human. You don't even have a soul." He chuckled. Yet Jongho went stiff. He frantically started feeling around his chest as if searching for the very thing they said he didn't have.
"Whoa whoa, relax." Hongjoong said softly as he reached out to the teen. Jongho flinched and grabbed his arm before he could touch him. The older demon winced at the immense strength in the short action before Jongho let him go.
"I'm sorry!" He exclaimed.
"Well at least we know what kind of demon you are." Chuckled Hongjoong, rubbing his sore arm. Jongho hated this. He hated feeling like a hazard.
Abruptly, he stood to his feet to gather his things. "I should get going," He announced. "Tell Mingi I took the bus home." Once he grabbed the rest of his stuff he hastily shuffled out the door. Neither of the other demon's tried to stop him, simply letting him go.
"What should we do?" Asked Hongjoong once Jongho was gone.
"I'm not sure. He knows who we are, we know who he is. If things get out of hand we'll know. Until then, I think it may be best to keep some distance."
Jongho let out a long winded sigh once he was out the cafe door. Those two were much scarier than he was expecting. At least he knew he wasn't the only one. He checked his watch, sighing yet again. The bus wasn't going to be here for another twenty minutes. He huffed in annoyance and took out his time to pass the time.
About two minutes in however, he felt something...disturbing. A weird feeling that suddenly made him extremely irritated. Not only that, but it was like he was being watched. Jongho tried to shake it off though. Maybe he was just tired, and yet the energy persisted. A low growl managed to escape Jongho's lips when the feeling became horrendous. He smacked his hand over his mouth but no one noticed. Even still, he couldn't shake his worry.
He made his way down the street and plugged in his earbuds to distract himself but it wasn't enough. He still felt antsy and annoyed. Though eventually, he felt himself come to his senses when he turned the corner of the walkway, finally realising that there was no one there. Jongho sighed in relief and, feeling much better, turned back to head to the bus stop.
Just as he turned around, Jongho smacked right into someone's chest, knocking him to the ground. "Oh! Sorry! I didn't see you...t-there?" He was breathtaking. With blonde hair that reached the end of his neck, the most stunning pair of light green eyes Jongho had ever seen and...and...and he had a sword.
"Stay still demon, I'll make sure this is quick and painful."
Shit.
The teen tumbled out of the way just as the stranger stabbed his weapon into the ground. Jongho wasted no time, scrambling to his feet and sprinting down the street. Cars honked and grinded to a halt as the teen raced across the busy road. He swerved past a crowd of people and made a sharp turn into an alleyway. His heart was racing. "Running won't help you escape your death!"
Jongho shrieked. "How did you-" he was cut off when the blonde grabbed his neck and pinned him down against the brick wall. He felt his throat closing and the dizziness begin to seep in. At least if he was going to die, he'd die at the hands of this handsome mystery man.
Like hell I would!
Using all his strength, he grabbed the older's arms, catching him off guard, and pried his hands away. The blonde was thrown back and Jongho bolted away while he regained his senses. He ran back to the road blindly, too focussed on where he was running to notice the array of cars heading his way. Jongho didn't think when he jumped up to avoid being hit, only to go soaring over the road. He gasped when he reached the ground, he must've gone ten feet into the air before he landed.
Jongho thought that would be the end of it until he saw his pursuer across the street. The older teen scowled at him and came charging towards him. "Leave me alone!" Shouted Jongho. "Stop trying to kill me!"
"Then fight me you coward!" The blonde slammed his fist on an incoming car, stopping it dead in its tracks. It's driver hastily escaped his vehicle before the stranger lifted the car over his head and aimed it towards Jongho. People in the streets screamed, scattering from the scene as the car came charging towards the teen. He managed to duck, but just barely, as it slammed through the glass of the building behind him.
"You have terrible aim..." muttered Jongho.
"Stay still, I'll be able to end your life faster!" That was when the stranger brought out their sword yet again, aiming it directly at Jongho and for a moment time seemed to slow as he flew right at him.
Yet the impact never came. Jongho opened his eyes, now wide when he saw Yunho standing over him, stopping the sword with his bare hands. "H-How did you know?"
"You take twenty minutes to walk back, ten by bus then another five once you reach the stop and arrive at three twenty-five sharp. You have exceeded your time out meaning you are now grounded."
"How dare you interfere!" Shouted the other blonde, pulling his sword back. "Do you know who I am?"
"I do not care."
"I am Kang Yeosang angel of swiftness," He continued anyway. "And I have been sent to vanquish that creature you're protecting!" Jongho inched to his feet and hid behind the older angel. Yunho didn't do much in the way of comfort, only pushing him further behind.
"How nice." Replied Yunho boredly. "Assuming your name means anything to me, allow me to introduce myself as well. I am Jeong Yunho, angel of light and I sincerely hope I have the pleasure of never seeing you again, on Heaven or on Earth."
Without further explanation, Yunho took Jongho's hand and teleported to the teen's bedroom. Yunho grimaced at Earth's forces holding him down but tired his best to shake it off, focusing instead on the shaken teen in front of him. "Why is he trying to kill me? I did nothing wrong!" Exclaimed Jongho, holding himself with a sniff.
Yunho tilted his head. Tears? How strange. Demon's shouldn't be experiencing emotions. At least that's what he thought. "If a demon misbehaves while on Earth an angel is sent to watch them. That angel was here to watch over you, same as I am to do with my targets."
"But he tried to kill me! HE THREW A CAR AT ME!"
"Ah yes, how unfortunate." Mingi would be proud of him for expressing sympathy. "The only reason one would kill the demon they're cirvalening is if said demon steps out of line. I can only assume it's the other way around this time." Jongho groaned, flopping onto his bed in dismay.
"I hate my life..." He grumbled.
Yunho sat down next to him, giving him a pat on the back. "As you should, it is short and ultimately means nothing in the grand scheme of things. Your life has very little meaning." Had he had the energy, Jongho would've smacked him off the bed. Instead he only sighed and faced the wall.
This definitely wasn't the reaction Yunho was looking for. "Did a realistic outlook on life not make you feel better?"
"I don't know, I was kinda hoping you'd say something like: No Jongho! You've got so much to live for and you'll be fine!"
"But that would be a lie."
"Jesus Christ," Jongo finally just pushed Yunho away then stood to his feet, storming off to the kitchen. Yunho was left there wondering what to do. He wanted to remain distant towards Jongho, but also felt the need to comfort him.
Despite his recent trauma, unfortunately Jongho had to return to school the next day. It was actually Yunho who instructed him to go, saying "Your feeble mind needs to gain as much information as possible before it rots in that skull of yours." Very inspirational.
"I feel like something bad is going to happen today..." Muttered the teen, watching the door of his classroom anxiously.
"No duh, it's Tuesday. Nothing good ever happens on a Tuesday." Taehyun remarked while scribbling down a few notes from the white board. "And would you stop staring at that door? It's not like someone is just going to walk in and ruin your life-"
"Ah, you're finally here." The teacher stood from her desk to greet the person who had arrived and Jongho's jaw nearly fell to the ground when he saw who it was. "Everyone, I'd like to introduce you to Kang Yeosang, he'll be joining us for the rest of the year."
You've got to be kidding.
"Hello everyone, I assure you I will act as friendly competition to each of your academic activities and intend to get to know each of you very well." His eyes travelled towards Jongho as he said this, an untrustworthy grin creeping across his light face.
"I swear, why do we only get weird new kids at this school?" Huffed Taehyun just before the teacher announced that she'd be stepping out for a moment. The teen perked up suddenly at the sound of wood splintering. "Jongho, you're stress breaking." He nonchalantly pointed towards the sudden pile of newly broken pencils by Jongho's hand.
"Dammit..." Taehyun rolled his eyes at him then smiled.
"It's alright, you can borrow mine."
"Pardon me," the two look up to see Yeosang standing at their table, his shadow casting over them in an annoyingly patronising way. "Is this seat taken?" He asked towards Taehyun.
"I'm sitting in it, aren't I?" Yeosang tilted his head then grabbed the side of his chair and simply shoved him off. Taehyun landed with a thud while the blonde sat himself down.
"Not anymore." Taehyun huffed irritably, hastily standing to his feet.
"Alright listen here blondie," he spat. "I don't care if you're new and I don't care if we share the same last name because it won't stop me from beating your scrawny ass-"
"Oh how nice of you Taehyun!" Cheered the teacher, walking back into the room before Taehyun could finish his thought. "Giving your seat to the new student, what a kind boy you are!" Taehyun gawked. Deciding to just swallow his pride and bite his tongue, the brunette stormed to an empty seat towards the back of class but not before apologising to Jongho and sending a harsh glare Yeosang's way.
"What the hell are you doing?" Hissed Jongho towards the angel.
"I figured since I couldn't kill you in broad daylight I'd try a different approach - Earning you trust." He sent the younger a bright smile that was soon to fall within seconds. "Just so you know, this is not by my own free will. I've simply been told my original method would not work, and thus, a friendship between us is necessary."
"You threw a car at me!"
"The past is in the past."
"It was yesterday."
"And time is irrelevant. Let's just focus on companionship instead and I will assure you that my will to end your life will go down by at least five percent."
"From what?" Asked Jongho.
"From one hundred." If there is a God, they were not in this classroom.
Yeosang was definitely...a character. He seemed to be on two ends of the "No Social Skills" spectrum. Going from blunt and emotionless to shy and meek throughout the day. He'd hold his hands behind his back, mutter apologies and kept his eyes down if he so much as breathed at someone in the hallway, but never seemed to shut up during class or skip a beat insulting someone. Unfortunately for Jongho, he was soon to find out that Yeosang was in all his classes besides the first and second period, so he was left to deal with his attitude change all day.
On the bright side, at least he'd only be dealing with him at school.
"Oh yeah, I'll meet you there later," said Jongho over the phone. While Taehyun made plans to study at the library later today, Jongho simply hummed along in agreement while he fished his keys out of his pocket with his free hand.
"You sound tired." Jongho only sighed in response once he finally got the door open and tossed his keys at the side table then made his way to the living room.
"I am. This Yeosang guy is in all of my classes and he's seriously doing my head in. It's like he exists just to annoy. I'm so glad I'll only have to see him at sch-"
"Hello Jongho." Jongho screeched at the voice and prayed to every god in existence that he, for some reason, started hallucinating.
Mingi rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly as Yeosang sat between him and Yunho. Strangely enough the older angel looked slightly uneasy as well, in a very subtle way of course. His gaze was downcasted and his eyes seemed to look everywhere but at the young blonde next to him. "Jongho? You still there?"
"Taehyun...I'm going to call you back." He slowly slid his phone away from his ear and ended the call, his eyes never leaving Yeosang's. "Why is he here?"
Mingi sighed and stood up, finally walking over to the teen. He looked reluctant to even say, but eventually he just sucked in his breath and got straight to the point. "Yeosang here will be staying with us for the foreseeable future."
"What!?" Exclaimed Jongho in disbelief. The room sort of shook when he did so, but Jongho hardly noticed. Instead he turned to Yunho but he only turned away. "Mingi, he threw a car at me!"
"I know I know but... something... came up."

Mingi sighed with relief once he left the lecture hall for his final class of the day. Despite everything being rather pleasant, his thoughts had still been clouded after what happened with Jongho yesterday. So he figured he'd pick something up for dinner to cheer him up a bit. He wanted to try cooking but figured that could go horribly wrong, so takeout would have to do.
The college student fished through his coat pocket for his car keys but couldn't seem to find them. He groaned, thinking that he may have left them in one of the classrooms. Mingi turned back to ask one of his professors but was stopped when he heard someone's voice. "I believe these are yours." Yunho twirled the missing keys around his finger and greeted Mingi with an ever so slight smile.
"Yunho?" Mingi exclaimed curiously yet still with a smile when he turned around. "How'd you get here?"
"I can go wherever the light touches, remember? I would like to believe it was unintentional, but had left your metal engine starters on the roof of your vehicle." Mingi smacked his forehead in dismay. "Please do not inflict damage on yourself!" Said Yunho worriedly.
"I'm fine Yunho," The brunette chuckled. He took the keys from Yunho with a grin then gestured him into the car. "These are called keys by the way," He said as he plugged in his metal engine starters. "Thank you by the way. I appreciate that you came to pick me up."
Yunho felt his heart beat at Mingi's soft smile. He never got tired of seeing it. "Of course, I figured you would enjoy my presence."
"You and your wordy explanations," Snickered Mingi. "You're going to tire yourself out with all of that."
"Does the way I speak bother you Mingi?" Asked Yunho, his face falling into a frown.
"Of course not! In fact I think it's unique. You don't need to change anything you don't want to Yunho. You're already perfect." Mingi was too focussed on the road to see a smile form on Yunho's face. The two of them ended up driving to the park to spend a bit of quiet time together. They had grabbed ice cream and sat themselves at Mingi's favourite bench.
His eyes travelled to a particular heart carving and a sad smile managed to form on his face. Yunho wanted to ask what about it got him so emotional but figured it wasn't his place and stayed silent. He instead glanced down at the soft serve in his hand. One lick and he was over the moon. "This is amazing!" He exclaimed in pure wonder. It was like watching a puppy try his first treat.
"Slow down Yunho," Giggled Mingi as he watched Yunho happily scarf down the ice cream. "You might get a-"
"Agh..." Groaned the angel. "My head...this dessert...it must have some sort of charm on it. I do not recommend finishing."
Mingi shook his head at him, still grinning as he wiped the excess ice cream off Yunho's face with his thumb. "It's just a brain freeze Yunho."
The angel felt the heat rise to his cheeks at the action. He tried to look away, but he couldn't tear his eyes away from the way Mingi's tongue swirled around the tip of his ice cream. He nearly said something, wanting to confess any sort of feeling for him, but his eyes went wide when a very familiar energy entered the area. "Yunho?" Mingi said curiously when the angel abruptly stood to his feet.
"You need to go, you need to go now-" A blinding flash of light beamed a few feet away from them. Yunho quickly covered Mingi from it's harsh rays, knocking his ice cream away and tossing him to the ground.
"Y-Yunho? What was that?"
"No need to hide," an anonymous voice called. Yunho winced. Reluctantly, he pulled himself and the brunette below him up. Mingi gasped at what he saw. The world was still, with not even the leaves blowing in the wind. With massive, blinding wings, and hair so bright it was almost white, the mystery angel stood before the duo with his hands behind his back while a smile of unclear motives rested on his glowing face. Just by his feet were dozens of blue flowers that followed him as he made his way towards them.
Yunho went to one knee, his eyes downcasted as he spoke. "Archangel Taemin..."
"You may stand Yunho," The way he spoke sounded distorted, but still leveled. It sent shivers down Mingi's spine.
"To what do I owe the pleasure?" Asked Yuho, still keeping his eyes to the ground, once he stood back up.
"I have a proposition for you," said Taemin. "It has come to my attention that you have yet to locate the demon you were assigned to." Yunho's mouth twitched, his shame rising. "As a way to redeem yourself, I offer you this: I have many apprentices, one of which has come down for his first mission. He can be a rather hotheaded character, as such he requires direct supervision and will be staying with you."
"Hold on, do we not get a say in his?" Taemin's piercing grey eyes turned to Mingi in a sharp turn. The human flinched when he felt them go right through his soul but tried his best to seem unphased. "W-What I mean is...Yunho's been staying with me. That means this angel will have to as well..."
"My my, haven't you been busy Jeong," laughed the archangel. "I too fell in love with a human in my youth." Mingi was about to correct him, but Taemin continued before he could. "This is not up for debate and neither of you have any say in the matter." He said firmly. "As a reward, I will have enough souls delivered to you to keep up your strength."
"As you wish, who am I to watch over?"
"Kang Yeosang."
