Chapter 52

---------------------
Ryu's POV
---------------------

Once the processions were finished for the dead, many of the bodies were taken by the families, probably to be buried soon.

For our squad, once Count Wistburn had heard of our arrival, he prepared a carriage to pick us up and took us to his manor.

It was a comfortable ride, something I hadn't considered I would be able to ride in, and we arrived at the manor faster than I expected.

Exiting the carriage, we were presented with a large mansion, surrounded by luscious, green grass, and beautiful flowers that bloomed perfectly, as if to show the care that was put into them.

Just in front of us stood a gate, which surrounded the entire manor, though the gate before us did not stand on a brick wall like the rest of the fence did.

Stepping down from the front seat of the carriage, the servant who was sent to get us opened the gate with etiquette that even an untrained eye could tell was good.

As we walk through the gate, he speeds up so that he could be in front of us, as if he was to guide our way to the door of the Manor, despite it being a straight path.

Archer seemed enamoured by the flowers and bushes which were growing around us in the courtyard.

Shortly after, we reached the front door and were welcomed by, who I assume to be, the head butler, considering his calm and precise movements.

With ease, the butler greeted and led us in from outside, guiding us towards the Mayor's office.

The manor's interior was much more impressive than the outside, with chandeliers hanging from the roof of every room, and what seemed like marble flooring in the lobby.

The stairway had golden edges, and the railings were coated in a faint silver, reflecting the light from everything else in the mansion.

Several doors lined the hallway, each leading to a different room, of which I can only assume would be bedrooms for guests.

At the end of the hallway were a pair of double doors with engravings that made them stand out compared to the others, not even mentioning the fact that these were twice the size.

The butler pushed them open, requiring a fair bit of effort, and we were shown a large, office like room.

It was eerily similar to the mayor's office which the Count was working in before, aside from the fact that he had many more wyvine heads on display in the current room.

Piles of paper were stacked all around the room, all presumably related to Alzibria and other towns or villages nearby.

Bookcases surround the room, covering the entire wall, alongside a few paintings just above them.

A chandelier also hangs from the roof in this room, though it seems more sophisticated than the others.

His desk had books scattered on it, as well as random pieces of paper strewn about.

Behind the desk sat the Count, his head in his hands.

"Count Wistburn, the knights are here to see you." (Butler)

With a single wave from the Count, the butler bows his head and walks out the room, closing the doors.

"... How many died?" (Count Wistburn)

"We believe it to be 9, but there were also some injuries sustained." (Captain)

"9 knights? It was a 50 man squad, and you still didn't manage to kill it without a casualty?" (Count Wistburn)

"... I apologise for my lack of a good result." (Captain)

"... Haah. No. No matter. It's fine. Did you manage to kill the thing?" (Count Wistburn)

"We did. The body should be with the knights currently." (Captain)

"Good. As for a completed mission, what would you want for a reward?" (Count Wistburn)

"... Please compensate the family of those who had died." (Captain)

"Very well. That should be all, you can leave." (Count Wistburn)

Bowing their heads, we all leave, following the butler to the gate outside.

"Say, Captain, why didn't you act a little more selfishly? You didn't even ask for any compensation for us." (Astrid)

"He wouldn't have given it to us. He was pretty disappointed in us, you know." (Etsu)

"Well, yeah, but..." (Astrid)

"Don't worry about it, His Majesty might give us something." (Airi)

"Isn't that a little impudent for you to think?" (Etsu)

"Is it? We are under his command after all." (Airi)

"Maybe, but our mission was to fix the lack of trade occurring here, and that was due to the No-Names. The Fenrir was a task from the Mayor." (Etsu)

"Hmmm. I'm sure we can spin it to work for our needs?" (Airi)

"In front of the King? That's an easy way to get locked up for treason." (Etsu)

"Don't worry about that, I'm in his good books." (Airi)

"... I give up." (Etsu)

Sighing to himself, Vice-Captain stops talking, probably exhausted from the ridiculous conversation he just had.

But anyway,
"We're ordered by the King?" (Ryu)

"You didn't know?" (Astrid)

"No..." (Ryu)

"Ah, well the King has 5 squads of selected knights under his control, and we're one of them. Although, we're a bit special, since His Majesty doesn't pick the members, but rather Captain." (Astrid)

"Why?" (Ryu)

"Why? Well..." (Astrid)

She looks ahead of her towards Captain, before flinching slightly.

"I'm... Not the one to tell you." (Astrid)

"Hm? What do you me--" (Ryu)

"Anyway, your treatment isn't done, and since you seem to be plenty fine in strength, let's finish it tonight, yeah?" (Astrid)

"... Mm" (Ryu)

After that, we walked in silence towards the carriage, where the servant was already waiting to take us to our Inn.

Since the Inn was much closer than the main street, we arrive quickly and manage to rent some rooms for a night, where I spent most of it lying down with a green light hovering over me.

Thankfully, the healing magic treatment only took a few hours, and the lack of strength in my body allowed me to fall sleep quickly.

Author Notes
---------------------

Wow, this chapter feels a lot different from the others.

All of my other chapters have been a little lacking in description from what I can remember.

So, for this chapter, I tried to add enough description to stop the White Room Syndrome, but not too much where it turns into a fanfiction, like:
"His translucent blue eyes enrapture me in its gaze, the sun light shining off it. His luscious, flowing locks dance with the wind, its amber shade fitting well with the evening sun."

That kind of description seems too cheesy for me, and it also took me way too long to write that, so no thanks.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the chapter!
