XXI - A New Reality

Drako entered a scout ship in the hangar of the Science spaceship and took flight, in order to fulfill his mission. At great speed, he began to approach the electromagnetic field of the Earth. He launched two missiles that exploded as they met the net that enveloped the planet. Bob flew close to Drako, following Nicholas' instructions, and fired several rockets to help destroy the force field, in which it succeeded.

To confirm, the robot flew to the exosphere, sending the images to Drako. He could see from the holographic instruments that everything had returned to normal. The Earth was free from Mirov's net.

The Pharaoh, at that very moment, was talking to the queen on the balcony of the royal palace. The two stared in amazement as rays appeared at the tips of the pyramids, forever deactivating the alien technology.

"What could that be, dear?"

"I think the gods are at war, my queen."

"And you believe they'll come back?"

"I think they'll eventually destroy themselves. When forces are equal in opposite directions, they're cancelled. I learned this from the architects who came from the heavens."

Kyra, upon hearing her husband's words, thought about the hypothesis that Kirubi would never come back and got unsettled. Her face transformed, with a look full of hatred, judging herself betrayed.

"What is it, my dear? It seems like you suddenly got weird."

"Great Pharaoh, I must confess something to you and I don't know how you'll react."

"You can say it, my queen. I always hear your wise words."

"The captain of god Mirov's ship, Kirubi..."

"What happened?"

She, nervous, decided to soften things to her side. But, at the same time, she wanted to show her husband that other men desired her, even a god. In fact, she wanted the Pharaoh to turn against Kirubi and use his army to destroy him. The queen heard King Assuridor say that the gods could be killed. In addition, everyone knew that a goddess had lost her life in a fight in the arena.

"He wanted to possess me, promising to take me to the stars and make me his goddess. But, since I love you very much, my lord, I moved away from him."

"That bastard! Whether he's a god or not, I'll finish him."

The Pharaoh left in a hurry.

"Wait, dear. Don't..."

Kaenematon ran to the palace hallway and shouted furiously:

"Guards, convoke the military council. Immediately."

The general arrived, too, finishing adjusting the helmet.

"Yes, your Majesty."

"Prepare the army. We'll march as fast as we can. Horses and knights... I want everyone ready to attack these gods, who will feel the cut of our blades and bleed to death."

"I'll do as you command."

After preparing the army, the commander of the Egyptian forces led the humans in his war chariot, alongside the Pharaoh.

They headed toward the west of the planet, to where they saw the ships move, according to the guidance of the royal astrologers. Kyra saw the Pharaoh leave with the military and felt a strong desire to see Kirubi dead. She believed he'd deceived her just to have her in his arms for one night.

The forces of the Egyptian king marched fiercely until they came as far as possible from their country, but there was no sign of the gods.

"General, where are those damn gods?"

"Great Sun God! There's no sign of them and our scouts don't know how to follow them, for they've left no traces. I think the best thing to do is to go back and wait for them to return, so that they feel the pain of death from our swords. I'll keep our soldiers prepared to finish them once and for all."

"If there's no alternative, let's wait for them to return or maybe they'll destroy each other, but I'd very much like to feel the taste of revenge on one of them."

"But who is he, Your Majesty? And what did he do to awaken the fury of the Sun God?"

"This is my business, Khan! Let's go back and keep your military prepared for the battle."

"Yes, my king. I'll do so."

The troops of the Pharaoh Kaenematon returned to Egypt because there was no way to persecute those beings that were holders of such advanced technology.

Meanwhile, in the East of the planet, the forces of Merko and Mirov were fighting on the battlefield. The cruisers fired rockets exploding their targets into flames.

When Captain Kirubi was about to shoot Merko, Little Wolf, which was now also participating in the combat, threw laser lights from its eyes at the captain's weapon, causing it to fall to the ground. Everything had been properly planned by Nicholas and Tibor. Kirubi glared furious at the robot dog.

"I'll blow your circuits and tear you to pieces."

He was preparing the other gun he had pulled from his holster to hit the dog when Merko hit him in the chest, with an assault rifle. He fell, unconscious.

Nicholas warned Merko telepathically:

"Don't try to use telekinesis, because Mirov has created an electromagnetic barrier that blocks the gravity that feeds your powers. We must use our own weapons. Drako will try to disable the electromagnetic field that surrounds the planet. Everything will be back to normal in a little while."

"How do you know that?" Merko asked, also telepathically, narrowing his eyes.

"I'll explain everything later. Let's fight, there's no time."

"Understood, Nick."

Nicholas smiled at the possibility of repairing the mistakes of the past. However, he didn't have time to think. Mirov used his staff and launched at Merko a powerful ray, but Tibor was able to throw himself on him in time, being hit on the left leg, which was lacerated. Blood began to squirm on all sides.

"Don't worry, Tibor, I'll take you to Zara so she can take care of you." Sivoc materialized beside him. He looked worried.

"Commander, help the others. They are in great danger", Tibor said.

"This won't take long. Be still, because you'll receive aid. I'll be back to help the others in a few minutes."

Sivoc began to make a tourniquet at the height of Tibor's thigh to allow stagnation of the bleeding. Then, he cauterized the wound with an incandescent instrument he took out of his combat suit. He picked him up. He pressed his bracelet and the two were teleported to the Science ship, so that his friend received the proper care from Zara.

Kirubi stood up, still dizzy, but quickly regained his strength. The battle suit vest he was wearing had helped him escape the attack, absorbing the impact. He teleported himself behind Merko and hit a blow to the nape of his neck, which caught him off guard, leaving him stunned on the floor. Mirov was preparing to launch the fatal attack on Merko when Nicholas took a laser spear and struck the tyrant, hitting his leg.

Captain Merko, even though he was lying on the ground, took the gun and shot Mirov. Injured, the villain raised the staff, trying to create a protective shield. However, Nicholas launched a new very strong attack, which lit up the whole place with an intense light. After that, there was no more sign of the villain anywhere. They searched all the corners, but Mirov had disappeared.

"That's good. The bastard died twice. I think we did it," Nicholas smiled.

Kirubi and Merko hit each other, fighting. The blows they were giving were very strong.

They stared at each other with hatred. It was Kirubi's opportunity to take revenge on the captain for the defeat at the Games. As for Merko, he could once again overcome the man who commanded Mirov's forces, his fatal enemy.

After punching the rival's face, Merko hit a kick in his abdomen and took a right hook in the face. They both hit each other mutually. The commander spat blood and took advantage of Captain Kirubi's moment of carelessness to use a sharp blade that came out of the metal bracelet on his fist, striking the captain on the neck. This time, the protective vest wouldn't be able to save him. It was the end of the commander of Mirov's forces.

The robots once again destroyed each other. Some were without their heads and others were fallen on the ground. Only Bob was intact. Again, he positioned himself around Nicholas to protect him.

The remaining soldiers stopped as soon as they saw the deaths of their leaders. The chaos of the battle, with destruction on all sides, made the enemies surrender. All the dead were disintegrated so there was no proof of their passage through the planet. The control collars were removed from the surviving crew of Genesis spacecraft and they regained consciousness. Everyone was released and incorporated into the crew of Merko's ships.

The weapons installed on land and under the ground were destroyed and bombarded by rockets. Even so, the places where the underground weapons were settled emitted a lot of radiation, which was neutralized by the nuclear engineers.

"Where's Mirov?" Merko looked at the survivors, searching for their enemy.

"It seems he was disintegrated with the attack he received from Nicholas' laser weapon", explained Crom.

"I hope he really died. Although I would very much like to take him prisoner, to pay for his crimes."

"I believe he's dead," Sivoc said, after leaving Tibor under Zara's and the medical team's care, returning to the battlefield by teleportation. "Don't worry, Merko. There's no sign of him anymore."

"I wish I had proof of that." The captain looked a little disappointed.

"The lack of evidence of Mirov is already a proof of his total destruction", said Nicholas.

"I hope you're right, Nick." Merko stepped toward the ship, slapping the young man's back with his right hand.

The rebel spaceship Genesis ascended to the heavens under Crom's command. The Science spaceship took off from the ocean and Sivoc was the one commanding it. Merko was captaining his battle cruiser Star Hunter. After a while, they saw the Pharaoh's army, which was riding with their war carriages back to Egypt. Kaenematon, looking at them, took a spear and caused it to cut the air to a ridiculous distance above his men. Merko watched him from the hatch of the command bridge, and couldn't understand that belligerent attitude of the pharaoh.

"The humans seem to be angry at Mirov. He must have promised them something that he couldn't give."

But let them be with their frustrations. It was time to leave.

Days later, Pharaoh arrived at his city, defeated. He had seen the gods go away. He tried to chase them, but his spear didn't even scratch them. He told his men that if the gods were to return one day, they would all be dead. Then, he returned to his quarters, where the queen was waiting for him.

"Did you manage to defeat the gods?"

"They fled when they saw my army", he would never like to tell her the truth.

"They are cowards, liars. You are the one who's a god." Kyra approached him and hugged him, beginning to undress him from his battle uniform.

She let the translucent linen nightgown slip and led him to the marriage bed. She wanted to give him all the love her husband deserved, for having tried to avenge her honor. And he was willing to accept her. Time forgave everything, and together they reached old age, reigning over Egypt.

Far from Earth, the three ships positioned themselves in the exosphere, preparing their return to the constellation of Orion, the hunter, and then, to the planet Life. Tibor received the care of the mission's physicians in the ship Science. Now, three-quarters of his body had been rebuilt with the most advanced robotic nanotechnology. He had become a true bionic man.

Merko teleported to Science spaceship to talk to his friends and thank them for the help they gave him. He left the ship to the cares of the first mate, Lieutenant Kator. He went to the infirmary and thanked Tibor personally for his heroic act to save his life.

"Thank you, my friend Tibor. Do you remember when we talked at the hospital on Planet Life and said we would fight together one day? For I tell you that it was a great pleasure to do it by your side, and thank you for saving my life."

He gave him a handshake and, finally, hugged him.

"I would do this as many times as you needed. You should also thank your son, Nicholas, for he had the idea that led to the rescue of everyone."

"What idea? What do you mean?"

"I think you should talk later. Many things have happened in this short period we've been on this planet."

As soon as Merko said farewell to Sivoc and Drako, he returned to his ship. At Star Hunter spacecraft, Zara and Nicholas celebrated the success of the mission, when the captain appeared.

"Nick, my son!" He came and gave his son a long hug.

"Dad! It feels so good to see you alive." Nicholas cried after hugging Merko once more.

"I thought I'd never hear you calling me dad again. What happened?"

"It's a long story."

"I'm eager to hear it."

After that, Merko hugged Zara and checked to see if everything was in order. Then he ordered the preparations for the journey. He looked at Nicholas, who had some scratches on the right side of his face.

"Tibor told me that you saved everyone's lives. I thought Tibor had saved me. I want to understand this story later. Was he referring to the fact that you told me about Mirov's plan to stop me from using telekinesis?"

"On the way we'll tell you all the details. We'll have plenty of time to talk on the way back home", the young human smiled, glad that everything worked perfectly.

Merko asked that Nicholas send his robot to Earth, because he needed to verify if Mirov had left any traces of the alien presence where he had passed. Bob transmitted all the images to Drako, who also conferred with his drones all over the planet. Merko asked the three ships to track everything in the search for objects left by their enemies.

"Destroy any proof that we've been here. We must not leave anything that can reveal our presence, because the history of the human beings must be preserved. It's enough what has been altered by Mirov's interventions."

Nothing was found beyond the pyramids, obelisks and monuments like monoliths left in every corner of the planet's surface. The inscriptions and remains engraved on the pyramids and rocks, being made by humans, would not bring any problems. They agreed that these things wouldn't endanger the aliens or the humans, and would probably be seen as mysteries in the future. After observing that everything was at peace, Bob and the drones returned to the ships.

"Captain Merko, we verified that Kirubi's soldiers have left drawings and marks all over the planet. Possibly, they marked the geographical points where they extracted ores to manufacture the electromagnetic devices."

"I think the drawings on the surfaces of planet Earth won't interfere in the human beings' life. Thousands of years will pass until they build ships or any locating device that can map or track these geoglyphs. Besides, humans love a mystery," complemented the captain, smiling. "Many stories will be told about the alien presence on Earth and the origin of life, but they will never be sure of what really happened, except in a very distant future."

"You are right, sir," Drako answered, shaking his head.

"I agree too. This won't bring troubles to mankind", said Commander Sivoc.

It was time to move on.

After a period of rest and care of the injuries, Nicholas and Zara explained to Merko what they had done with a trip to the past and the consequences of that. Merko was very pleased and grateful.

He hugged them again, excited. He knew that this team that accompanied him was made of true friends and people who truly loved him. He would do everything he could to take care of them.

Nicholas and his friends decided that they should return and report all the facts of the completed mission to Queen Isadora and Counselor Kenan.

Zara and her husband agreed that as soon as they returned to Planet Life, they would go back to Earth to see their daughter and their loved ones. Homesickness was tightening their hearts and was the counselor of their souls...

While the battle cruisers traveled to planet Life at a warp speed, on Earth the danger was surrounding Nicholas' family. Zara felt she had to go home and, for that, she went to the command bridge to talk to Merko. Her husband accompanied her.

"I need to talk to you."

"You can speak, doctor."

"I want to ask you to only explain the mission to the queen and counselor Kenan and that we travel as quickly as possible back home. I have a bad feeling that danger surrounds our family."

"I don't think there's any danger. The only threat was Fizard's spy. I'll ask him to order him to return. We can send a scout ship for him to come back to planet Life."

"We don't know what Mirov's real intentions were in sending a spy to planet Earth", said Nicholas.

"I'll have Fizard handle this. The spy was one of his men and expected a contact from Mirov himself. This contact won't happen, as we well know. If Fizard doesn't manage to talk to him, I'll solve it myself when I get to Earth. Don't worry, Zara, I'll sort this out."

"Like father, like son. Just like Nicholas, you always think nothing is going to happen and everything will be all right. Promise me, Merko, that we'll immediately return to Earth as soon as you deliver the ships and the crews."

"All right, I promise. We'll be returning home quickly after I speak with the Queen and Counselor Kenan. And you, Nick, do you have something to say? Any fear, too?"

"No. When Zara gets something into her head, who am I to change her opinion? Along with that, I'm also crazy to see Helen, Mom and Sophia."

"I miss them too, son. We'll return soon..."

Zara slept in her chambers while the ship went on its course. In her dreams, Helen asked for help.

"Mommy, where are you?" The girl cried at the end of a corridor surrounded by glass. There was water around her, as if she were at the bottom of the sea.

"I'm here, daughter!"

"Help me, mom. There's a stranger here... I need you!"

"Calm down, sweetie! I am going to get you..."

The mother woke up, holding the scream with her hand over her mouth. She lifted her torso, startled.

What could be happening to her daughter?
