XIII - Encounter of Titans
The fight began. Nicholas was anxious, because he was connected to the robot and their sensations were shared. Both war machines wore a giant sword, fastened in a kind of sheath on the back. They brandished it in a hurry to overcome the distance that separated them. Bob's blade collided with Mirov's robots in a dazzling clang, while the legs moved away to compensate for the weight of each side.
Bob raised his sword in time to defend itself from a frontal blow and jumped on the enemy's flank, shaking the arena. It hit noisily the abdominal protection around his opponent's waist. If its sword found the space between its arm and its chest, perhaps the success would come faster. The robots continued to fight and sparks of fire came out, when the blades met each other with great force. With a deafening noise, the swords met and were thrown in the distance. There was no time to catch them. Now body-combat was all that was left for them.
The assassin robot attacked Bob with a right-wing punch, causing its systems to fail for a moment, leaving Nicholas stunned. After that, it hit with the left hand, followed by the right, leaving Nicholas' robot without movement. The young man felt dizzy, but he shook his head and returned to himself. He couldn't hesitate.
Merko looked at Nicholas and said telepathically:
"This assassin robot is very strong. Ask Bob to dodge and attack next."
"Leave it to me," answered the young man, nervous.
The rules stipulated that the robots couldn't use the laser beams, or their rockets, or cannons, so as not to injure the audience. The fight would have to be won, then, in hand-to-hand combat.
Bob hit a strike with its left leg on the back part of the opponent's knee, knocking it down. The spectators got up to see if it was the end of the fight, but Mirov's robot soon got up and reacted, hitting several punches with its left hand on Bob's waist and chest. Nicholas couldn't help it defend itself and became more and more desperate with the strength of the enemy robot.
The Terran asked his robot to close the guard, lowering both elbows to protect the waist line. The enemy hit a lot in this region. Bob couldn't stand it and fell to the ground. The noise of the fall caused some spectators to place their hands over their ears. Everyone thought the fight was over and the Pharaoh smiled, thinking he had won the bet. However, Bob put both hands on the ground and rose slowly under the eyes of the whole crowd. Mirov's team seemed not to believe what they saw.
"Come on, Bob, you can get him!" The young man raged to give strength to his robot.
Nicholas smiled with the strength and endurance of his friend as it charged at the rival. It began to hit several hooks in the head of the assassin robot, that lost more and more its functions.
"That's it, Bob! Attack, don't stop!" Nicholas was excited about the possibility of winning a fight that seemed lost.
Merko got up to see that, as did the whole audience.
Mirov was furious to see the Earthman's robot fight back like that. The energy of the battlecruiser Genesis' robot seemed to have weakened with all the blows that it had imposed to the opponent, which absorbed part of the attacks.
As a final blow, Bob punched from the bottom up under the enemy's helmet, tearing out its head, which fell in a staggering noise. Everything seemed to shake and collapse around it. The metal body collapsed on the floor, next to the head that turned off its lights, the eyes now opaque.
The fight was over and Bob was the winner. Before applauding, the people waited to see if the robot wouldn't attack anyone else. The audience was frightened by Bob's power. It turned to its owner, as if needing his approval for the victory, and knelt before Nicholas, who shook his head, approving of the robot's performance.
Mirov was annoyed at the defeat, and Kaenematon too. He didn't even know the secret that would make him even more furious. Maybe it was better that only Kyra and Kirubi kept their confidence. Far from them, Nicholas smiled, looking at Merko who was also happy with the victory.
Nicholas ordered Bob to return to the landing platform of Star Hunter spaceship. It needed care to restore itself. The robotic engineers were ready to do its maintenance. Bob put both arms up and everyone in the audience applauded him. Then, he rose above the crowd and flew to the ship.
"Good work, Bob!" Nicholas considered him a friend.
As the fight between the robots was worth three points, the score was 7 x 5 for captain Merko's team. The last fight would define the winning team of the games of the gods. The teams returned to their ships to rest until the afternoon.
On the same day, there would be the big fight between the champions Merko and Kirubi, the two commanders of the battle cruisers. They went to the rooms of their ships to rest for the last combat of the Alien Games.
