XXIII -The Past of Planet Earth

The fugitives entered the passage created in the space-time network. The great battlecruiser Genesis, commanded by Captain Kirubi, was approaching its goal, the constellation Canis Major, south of the Orion's belt. Mirov, who was looking at everything from the hatch on the bridge, smiled at the sight of the great cradle of stars in the Milky Way. It was the place where most of the galaxy's stars were born.

He was happy. He had escaped the trap that had been prepared for him, and his plans were taking place as he wished. With the successful escape, he rejoiced at the possibility of revenge against his enemies. The crewmen blindly followed their leader, although they didn't totally know his plan's madness.

His heart was filled with hatred and this was the fuel of his revenge.

Mirov was interested in knowing about the next wormhole that engineers would make with the gravity-forming weapon, creating a portal between Sirius's star binary system and the solar system of planet Earth. Sirius' two stars orbited around themselves, releasing waves that pushed all the space-time around them.

"Navigating those waves with the ship will be very interesting. I'll quickly get where I want to..." thought Mirov.

Captain Kirubi was experienced in travels through space-time breaches, taking advantage of the gravitational waves' effects. In transwarp speed, they sailed through the Milky Way. He knew that, with the gravitational weapon, the capacity to travel long distances was exponential.

The commander had received Mirov's orders to sail towards Earth and he reported to his leader the events in real time:

"Mirov, sir, we have entered the space-time tunnel and will soon reach our destination. The stellar year of our arrival meets exactly your expectations."

"Very well, Captain. Proceed."

From Genesis' bridge, the commander gave the orders:

"Chief officer, check the coordinates: seven, three, eight and five. Raise the force shields. Soon the ship will pass next to the meteorite belt, between Jupiter and Mars."

"Understood, Captain," replied the chief officer, without taking his eyes off the holographic instruments' console.

After a few hours of travel, Mirov arrived with his team on planet Earth, millions of years in the past. The battlecruiser monster shook a bit when hit by some asteroids near Jupiter, but it was nothing significant.

The crew looked with admiration at the planet in primordial times. The continent was a single block, as in planet Life, and was called Pangea. From the hatch on the Genesis' command bridge, Mirov, Kirubi and Radof watched the terrestrial mass surrounded by a single ocean.

"What a beautiful planet! A clear blue sphere, as we've always heard," said Radof.

"It looks like our planet Life," Croiff said.

"No! Earth is bluer..." Radof commented.

Pangea, from the Greek "all the earth" was a continental mass in its early formations. The Continents were united and surrounded by a great Ocean called Pantalassa.

The captain looked at Mirov curiously and asked:

"Sir, may we know now what your plans are?"

"Yes, Captain." The villain Mirov looked at the floor, thoughtfully.

Everyone in the ship awaited the explanations with great curiosity. What was he planning going back millions of years in the planet Earth's past?

Mirov finally began to tell everyone the secret he had kept for the entire trip.

"We'll go down to the Earth, which is already beginning to form forests and vegetation, and we'll spread the seeds of life upon it. We'll populate the planet with the most fearsome creatures that have ever existed, which biological materials have been stored in the Scientific Building's laboratory on our planet," he replied with a penetrating gaze. "Our genetic scientists have prepared the clones during the journey, which have reached the embryo stage. We'll place these beings in incubators in the forests near the rivers, where the conditions will favor the perpetuation of their species. They are the reptiles known to us as dinosaurs. There were many of them exiled in the Mutant Forest of planet Life and I could see with my own the ferocity of these creatures."

"But why will you do that, master?" Radof asked. "These monsters were banned from our planet because they're experiences that went wrong, becoming gigantic reptiles, some more than 40 feet high, with brute force and constant hunger. They will rule the earth. There'll be no conditions for the first ancestors of mankind to emerge on this planet and you will destroy the human race!"

"Everyone knows that the species Homo sapiens arose from the first Australopithecus, relatives of mammal primates. The gigantic reptiles will compete with their ancestors in the environment and humans will be extinct," added Captain Kirubi, while the other crewmen on the command room's bridge listened, quietly, since the mental control necklaces on their necks didn't allow them to react.

"Your conclusions are right. We'll extinguish the beginnings of the human race from the planet Earth." Mirov decreed, smiling and raising his arms to show the forests in the single continent. "And after those underdeveloped beings vanish once and for all, the second part of my plan will come. I'll tell you later."

The ship's crew was apprehensive about what was to come in Mirov's insane mind. Captain Kirubi, Radof and Croiff were the only ones who had their cognitive ability preserved. The other crewmen wore the submission artifacts on their necks and had to listen to everything without showing a reaction. They could do nothing but wait, since they were now in the hands of the Machiavellian Mirov.

Commander Kirubi imagined: "If we eliminate the first ancestors of the human beings, it's very likely that the human race of the future won't exist as we know it and even the inhabitants of planet Life may be extinguished, since the principle of their race will be changed".

Mirov read his thoughts and said:

"Exactly, Captain. I believe you are right."

"But, sir, what about all the inhabitants of our planet who will no longer exist? What about us? I thought..."

"From now on, I decide who lives and who does not. I don't care that the damned planet Life won't exist anymore. Whoever opposes me will be extinguished along with humans. We'll be a new race and the mark of intelligent life on planet Earth. The present begins now. The past and the future don't matter anymore..." Mirov lifted the right side of his lip with a half-smile, showing his disdain for the human race and, consequently, the beings of his own planet. "Merko, your traitorous friends, Queen Isadora, the damned Counselor Kenan, they will all disappear from their existence like a wind that blows away and never comes back." He laughed, boasting of his cleverness.

He hated any living being. He never loved anyone; he might not even love himself. Everyone lowered their heads in submission, unconcerned with the madness of their leader, who decided to risk their existence, including his own, by a pure and insane whim. He would trample on anyone who would hinder his plans, like someone who steps on an insect to crush it to the end of its life.

"But, sir? Won't you be shooting yourself in the chest by eliminating all of us and yourself, since we are descendants of the human beings?" Radof asked, giving voice to what everyone feared.

"I have a theory that a later event nullifies the causative fact. I can't prove it because it has never been tried before. We'll know soon enough." He smiled like a madman, about to commit suicide.

"And to think that I followed this man..." Radof thought.

"Did you say anything, Radof?" Mirov asked.

"No, master... I just want us to arrive soon. I'm crazy to step on this planet's ground."

The large battlecruiser finally landed in the middle of a plain and the green plants already occupied the surface of the planet, revealing that photosynthesis was happening. Mirov looked at the Earth as if he were a God who would have the power to transform everything around him, at his pleasure. The virgin planet was waiting for him, ready to be twinned with the seed of life, even if it was something that would bring death.

He ordered the engineers:

"Prepare the genetic materials. Let's sow life on the planet. On this day, we are rewriting the Earth's history. I feel like a deity," Mirov said, closing his eyes as he felt a shiver of excitement rise up his spine.

Inside the ship's laboratory, scientists manipulated the biological material. With great attention and using high-precision microscopes, the head of genetic engineering monitored every detail to make the clones perfect. The tubes were hermetically sealed with the materials of the future dinosaurs. After everything, they greeted each other for the precise service. It was time for the next step.

Three scouting ships left the hangar and started to fly over the planet. Mirov was leading the mission in person from the mother ship, looking at the holograms with the information passed on to him. Drones were sent with the mission of recognizing and seeking information on atmospheric and environmental conditions.

The spacecrafts parked on a plain near a river and Captain Kirubi left with some crew members. He placed both hands to straighten his helmet.

They wore special suits with oxygen reserve and visors on the helmets that conveyed the images to the Genesis ship computers.

Although there were oxygen producing autotrophic plants and bacteria on the planet's surface, they needed to make sure that there was enough oxygen for the implantation of the embryos to be successful. After all, they came to the planet in the early days of life. After they knew that the atmosphere was breathable, the other crewmen left and their helmets opened, fitting into their robes. Feeling the fresh breathable air coming in through their nostrils was a wonderful sensation.

"I want you to implant the dinosaur embryos first. Follow the guidelines of genetic engineers. The other clones of the planet Life's beings will be used at an opportune moment," ordered the tyrant Mirov, savoring every step of the operation.

"I'll do according to your orders, sir," replied the captain.

"It's all set," one of the geneticists said.

"Very good. You can start implanting the embryos," Mirov said.

Mirov's soldiers went down to the planet and now it was time for geneticists to act. They efficiently implanted the embryos of the terrible reptiles into robotic incubators prepared with nutrients and liquids to take care of their development. They would open at the right time for them to be born and would self-destruct, without leaving a trace.

Croiff brought a hot drink and served it to his master while the latter watched the scientists closely.

Mirov looked at the holography with the images, feeling like the creator of life, while he was sitting in the chair of the command bridge. He rejoiced upon seeing his plan running, while Radof and Croiff watched with worried eyes. They thought of the families and friends from their planet who were doomed to non-existence.

"At this moment, we created the conditions for humans to be extinguished from the planet. The mammal primates won't stand a chance. In a few million years, we, evolved beings from the planet Life, will dominate the Earth. We'll travel to a future time where I will be the sole ruler of mankind," Mirov said, boasting about the strategy he believed to be perfect.

Captain Kirubi was apprehensive about the mission and resolved to question his leader again by the communicator:

"Sir, how will we exist in the future if our predecessors will be extinguished? We are creating a temporal paradox of unpredictable consequences."

"No, Captain. This action will change the whole course of the history. What exists now is our reality, which we ourselves have created. At this moment, we are modifying civilization. If we come first to the planet, our actions will unleash the next facts of history. The events that you know about the future will never exist! We are the new future of this planet's population!" Mirov said, laughing for a few seconds.

The mission was successful and everything went perfectly. After sowing the life of the giant reptiles, everyone returned to the battlecruiser Genesis.

From there, genetic scientists confirmed the development of the implanted embryos under favorable environmental conditions and celebrated success. Radof, who had his friend Croiff on his side, said:

"I must admit, master, your plan was great. The ancestors of the human beings will never be able to compete in the environment with these monstrous creatures. It'll be the end of the human race!"

"Really, there will be no chance for the primates, nor their relatives, let alone the Australopithecus to develop. So, we are ready for the continuity of the plan," replied Mirov with a Machiavellian grin on his face. "Croiff, get us something to drink. We need to celebrate!"

"May I know, sir, what is the next step?" Captain Kirubi asked curiously.

"Let's travel thousands of years ahead and implant the embryos of beings from our planet Life here on Earth. They will develop and be the heirs of this planet. With their intelligence and technology, they will dominate the other species, even the most dangerous ones, and they will rule the Earth under my command, obviously. As for the temporal paradox, you shouldn't worry because we are re-creating life and we'll be the first-born of this new Age. I hope you understand because this is logical reasoning. I won't explain again!" The villain replied irritably and would avoid repeating the explanation of the temporal paradox.

"I'll trace a course for Sirius's binary system, and from there, we'll calculate the route for the time you want," said Captain Kirubi, changing the subject at the sight of the master angry.

***

They continued the journey and after arriving at the Canis Major constellation, prepared for the new trajectory. Genesis ship went about sixty-two million years ahead to follow the diabolical plan.

"Sir, we're approaching the Earth's solar system. Our navigator's calculations were perfect, and in a few hours, we'll penetrate the planet's exosphere in the correct stellar time," the chief officer warned.

"Great! The constellation of the hunter Orion gave us two advantages: Alignment with this solar system and the gravitational waves of the Sirius binary system. I know Captain Merko will come after me. But now we're far ahead of our enemies, and we still have the gravity weapon that has advanced our journey a lot," said Mirov, savoring the sweet honey of his vengeance.

Again, the battlecruiser Genesis was in the vicinity of planet Earth and Mirov ordered:

"Let's go to the region that corresponds to the African continent in the future. There's plenty of water there and the regions are fertile. We'll sow the life of our people for them to be my subjects. This way, we'll establish ourselves on this planet and will completely dominate it. Kirubi, have the geneticists prepare the cloned embryos of the planet Life's beings. I want everything to be realized accurately. I won't admit any mistake."

"Yes, sir. I'll personally accompany the preparations for the second part of the mission."

Mirov went to his quarters to rest and, as he rested, pondered:

"The Earth is already well formed and fit for life. Now that humans haven't appeared on the planet, it's time to sow it with the embryos of the planet Life's beings. Soon, the entire planet will be populated by evolved humans. Homo sapiens, in turn, will no longer exist in the future. With the knowledge and experience I have; I will be the new king of the planet. Is Commander Merko behind me? I think so. I'm doing good to those on my planet, giving them conditions to occupy the Earth and I'll destroy everyone who tries to stop me, including Merko."

He, lying down on his bed in his quarters inside Genesis ship, was laughing so loud that it could be heard by Radof and Croiff who were passing by at that moment.

"What happened to the master, Radof? Is he crazy?"

"I've never doubted that, my friend Croiff."

"And why do you keep following him?"

"Maybe I'm insane, too."

The laughter stopped and Mirov who had telepathically heard the conversation between the two of them thought:

"When I rule the planet and reign over all living creatures, including them, everyone will bow down to me as if I were their God..."
