Phil
I stood away from her grave with Dan by my side. We were by the pathway waiting for her to be buried.
We didn't speak a word during Heidi's funeral. Now that's she's being buried I couldn't help feeling guilty.
I didn't know she was depressed. I thought she loved what she did, she always seemed happy every time she mentioned it.
I thought my words were meaningless to her. I thought she was happy.
"This is my fault." I say out loud what Dam and I were both thinking.
"No, it isn't." He disagrees. "If you knew you wouldn't have-"
"It didn't matter if I knew. She was begging me remember? She told me I was her only friend and I..." I trail, I try holding back the sobs that would soon surface.
"She's buried. We should go say a few words." Dan changes the subject, I know he hasn't been to many funerals. He told me that when we were making cakes.
While Heidi was suffering, Dan and I were hanging out and laughing.
I see a man stand over her grave, he was one of the few people who attended her funeral. Aside from her mother and father. Her father was not in her life as much from what I remember, so it was a surprise he even showed up.
The man at her grave looks at us with his hazel green eyes.
"You knew her right?" He asks.
I nod.
"She was a beautiful thing, like snow in the summer." He points out to us.
"Slowly being destroyed..." Dan sighs.
"So you've heard the saying." He chuckles slightly, before he turns to leave.
Who is he? He couldn't be-
"Wait." I call him back. He turns to listen. "Who are you?"
"It doesn't matter." He brushes me off before leaving the sight.
Without introducing himself, I already knew who he was. I never saw him again but it was like a mystery had been solved.
