~44~
Bright and early the next morning, Uraraka and I were awoken by Gina storming into our room, and throwing open the curtains.
"Time to get up!" She sang cheerfully. "You have ten minutes to get dressed in clothes you can work out in! Meet in the training room!"
Then she walked out, shutting the door behind her. I could hear the sound of her humming getting further away as she walked down the hall.
Like a hurricane, she came and went, leaving Uraraka and I in a state of tiredness and confusion. We both sat up in bed, rubbing our eyes and attempting to wake ourselves up.
"Morning," Uraraka yawned, stretching her arms. "How'd you sleep?"
I grunted, slowly getting out of bed and doing a few stretches of my own. "Ask me again in ten minutes, I'm not awake enough for conversation."
Uraraka chuckled, reaching into her dresser and pulling out some clothes. I did the same, and the two of us quietly changed out of our pajamas before heading to the bathroom together with our hair brushes, tooth brushes, and toothpaste.
I turned on the cold faucet, cupping my hands to catch the water and splashing it on my face. I jolted, feeling much more awake after washing my face. Then I fixed a few of my piercings that has shifted in my sleep in the mirror, rotating my lip ring so that it looked right. Lastly I brushed my teeth and combed my hair, tying my lilac hair back in a loose ponytail to keep it out of the way.
I looked over at Uraraka, who was busy brushing her teeth and I lightly bumped her shoulder with my hand.
"To answer your question, I slept pretty good." I chuckled.
Uraraka giggled, spitting into the sink before talking. "Awake now?"
I smiled. "Yup."
Once we were done in the bathroom, we headed to the training room like we were instructed. I slid the door open and the two of us stepped inside.
The training room was really just a fancy dojo. It had different weapons for training hanging on the walls, and the floors were almost springy, probably meant to absorb the impact of falling.
"Alright," Gunhead began, his hands on his hips. "Before we eat some breakfast and get started, I'm going to explain the schedule for this week."
Gina stood next to him, her arms crossed over her chest.
"6am is when you're expected to be awake, by 7am breakfast is over and training begins. Both of you will train with me here until 11am, which is lunch time." Gunhead said, pausing before he continued. "At 12pm, we will go on patrols, be dressed in your hero costumes and ready to go. When we return from patrol at about 2pm, individual training will begin."
I raised my hand. "Wait, I thought we'd be training together."
Gina sighed before answering my question. "Yes, you will be training together to learn the basics, however, the two of you also need more specialized training to effectively use your quirks in combat. In short, your fighting styles are different and you will both need to find a way to fight that works for you."
"That makes sense." Uraraka hummed.
"Moving on," Gunhead coughed. "Individual training will continue until dinner which is at 6pm, and after that you have free time until bed. Any questions?"
Uraraka and I both shook our heads 'no.'
"Great," Gina exclaimed, clapping her hands together. "Let's eat!"
~~~~~~~~~~
Breakfast had been quite an experience for me.
First of all, I wasn't expecting Gunhead and Gina to cook for us, but they did. Second of all, eating breakfast at a table with so many people was something I had never experienced. At home, I always either ate by myself or with Kuse, and we didn't really cook. Breakfast was almost always one of three things; toast, cereal, or take out.
But I couldn't complain, the food was good and the company was too. We all talked, laughed, and ate together. Uraraka and I even helped wash the dishes afterwards, which we were informed we would be expected to do every now and then since the agency doesn't have any housekeepers.
Now we were back in the training room, each of us holding a toy knife and standing before Gunhead.
"Okay," Gunhead began, taking a wide stance with his arms out in front of him. "Both of you try to hit me."
I attacked first, thrusting the tip of my knife at his chest. Uraraka hesitated, attacking a few seconds after I did, aiming for his left shoulder.
In the blink of an eye I was disarmed, my knife being held to my throat. Uraraka was also disarmed and on the ground, Gunhead holding the tip of her knife against her back.
"Hm," Gunhead hummed, releasing us from his hold. "Very interesting, the two of you are very different when it comes to fighting."
"What do you mean?" I asked, rubbing my wrist where he had grabbed me.
"Well, as you both know, I observed your fights in the Sports Festival, and just now I got to watch how you fight up close." He began, nodding to himself. "Tora, you rush in, probably because you try to hit your opponent before they can hit you, however, I'm not saying that's a bad strategy. Attacking that way doesn't allow your opponent time to react if you're launching a surprise attack. But against someone with real combat training, catching them off guard won't always work."
I couldn't argue with his assessment, it was very accurate. I mean, if I'm not sure I can beat someone in a fight that's when I fight dirty or distract them before attacking.
"What about me?" Uraraka asked curiously.
Gunhead turned to Uraraka, pointing a finger at her. "You're the opposite of Tora. You try to carefully think of your next move, which causes you to hesitate when faced with an opponent that you don't have a strategy for."
Uraraka looked deep in thought, nodding her head slowly.
"Of course, reacting quickly and strategy are both important in a fight," Gunhead continued. "But you need a balance of the two, as well as various kinds of training in order to increase your chances of winning a fight without injuring yourself or those around you."
"Hence why we're starting with some basic self-defense and disarming techniques!" Gina added, tossing her own fake knife up in the air and catching it.
Gunhead handed us our knives back, turning to face Gina. "Watch closely, Gina will attack me and I will disarm her, then you two can take turns attacking and disarming, okay?"
Uraraka and I both nodded, watching the two of them closely.
Our training continued and time passed swiftly. Before we knew it, we were getting suited up for patrol.
Uraraka and I both headed for the main door, dressed in our hero costumes. The only sound we could hear as we walked was the soft metallic "CLINK" various pieces of my armor made as they brushed against each other. Gunhead and Gina waited for us at the door, both dressed in their hero costumes.
I had already seen Gunhead's costume, but this was my first time seeing Gina in costume. The design was fairly simply, but it looked good on her and was very practical. The main part of her costume was a dark brown, skin-tight, one piece with light red accents running up the legs, arms, and meeting at the chest. Around her waist sat a thick red utility belt, covered with pouches and several different holsters. Over top, she wore a dark red cropped jacket that was covered with various pockets. On the back of her jacket was a black 'A' with a white spade behind it, and she had an armband with the letter 'G' on her sleeve. I could only guess what the letters meant.
I think she said her hero name was Ace, so that was probably what the 'A' on her jacket stood for. But the 'G' could mean several things, it could stand for Gunhead, since she works at his agency, but it could also stand for her name, Gina.
"I love your costume, Gina!" Uraraka chirped, smiling.
"Thank you," Gina chuckled. "But call me Ace, we're going out on patrol, okay Uravity?"
Uraraka nodded sheepishly. "Right, sorry about that."
"Are we ready to go?" Gunhead asked, adjusting his mask.
"Let's go." I said, sounding more excited than I intended to.
Gina, or rather Ace, laughed, patting my shoulder. "You heard Heavy Metal, let's go boss!"
And so we left, starting my very first patrol as a hero student.
