I totally didn't forget that Midnight supervises the matches. Oops.
"Both from the hero course's class 1-A, Tora Tsujihara vs. Tenya Iida!"
I walked onto the field waving to the crowd, my posture laid back and a grin plastered on my face. Tenya approached from the other end of the field, also waving to the crowd and smiling slightly. We both climbed the steps and I faced Tenya with a cheeky smile, resting my hands in my pockets. Tenya seemed a little stiff, likely from all the attention directed at us.
Present Mic's voice cut through the air once again. "I think we're ready to get this thing started!"
I could hear the "CLICK CLACK" of high heels off to my right and my eyes landed on Midnight, who held a whip in the air.
She brought her whip down with a "CRACK," announcing the start of our match. "Begin!"
Just as I expected he would, Tenya made the first move, speeding towards me. I was quick to react, jumping back to create distance between us and pulling both of my hands out of my pockets. With a flick of my wrists, I scattered what was in my hands onto the ground, making Tenya stop in his tracks. Using the metal that I had been storing in my pockets I made spikes, spreading them all around me and limiting Tenya's mobility.
"Not bad, am I right?" I snickered, placing my hands on my hips.
"I'll admit that was clever," Tenya nodded, them smirking. "But you'll have to try harder!"
He rushed toward me once again, but slower than before so he could dodge the spikes I had created. I quickly tried to create more distance, but there was one problem.
"Those spikes may limit my mobility," Tenya said as he closed the distance between us. "But they also limit yours, and in case you haven't noticed, I'm much faster than you are."
I grit my teeth, hating that he was right. "You asshole."
Tenya was quickly closing the ground between us and I was getting nervous. At this rate, I definitely wasn't going to win. I sighed, shrugging as I accepted my fate. Tenya grabbed my shoulders, his engines roaring to life. I knew what was coming.
"RECIPRO BURST!"
The world blurred around me and I was overcome by a wave of nausea. By the time the world stopped spinning it was already over.
"Tora Tsujihara is out of bounds, the winner is Tenya Iida!" Midnight announced, causing the crowd to roar with cheers and applause.
I looked over my shoulder, smiling at Tenya. "Congrats on the win, but I'll get you next time Four-Eyes."
Tenya chuckled. "Sure you will."
~~~~~~~~~~
"Aw man," Kuse whined. "I thought Tora would win for sure."
"They were both so awesome though!" Uraraka suddenly chimed in.
Kuse looked over at the girl curiously, then looked back to Todoroki. "Shoto, who is she?"
Todoroki awkwardly peered at Uraraka, who chuckled.
"My name's Ochako Uraraka," She answered for Todoroki. "I'm good friends with Jiji, Midoriya, and Iida."
"What about Shoto?" Kuse asked, turning to look at him. "Are you friends with Shoto?"
Todoroki looked anxious, glancing at Uraraka, his eyes pleading for help.
"I'm just getting to know Todoroki!" Uraraka chirped. "But I'm sure we'll be good friends soon!"
Kuse paused, his eyebrows scrunched together in thought. "I think Shoto needs more friends."
Todoroki flinched, his head then drooping in despair. "You're not wrong."
"That's okay, I'll be your friend!" Kuse grinned, his smile reminiscent of his big sister's. "That's only fair since you helped me."
Uraraka swooned, crouching down to Kuse's level. "He's such a cutie!"
Suddenly the air became chilly, the hair on Todoroki's arms stood at attention as he instinctively straightened his posture. Something was telling him he was in danger.
Uraraka and Kuse seemed unaffected.
Then Todoroki saw what was causing his instincts to act up, or rather, he saw her.
~~~~~~~~~~
After my fight with Tenya I made my way back to my seat, only to be stopped in my tracks.
Kuse, my little brother, was sitting on Todoroki's lap, his eyes red and tear stains still on his cheeks.
I clenched my fists, gritting my teeth as I walked towards Todoroki with a ferocious glare. I saw him flinch, but I didn't care.
"Todoroki," I said in an eerily calm voice, making him flinch as he turned to face me. "I see you've met my little brother."
Kuse's face lit up when he saw me. running over to hug me and completely ignoring the scary look on my face. He could tell my anger wasn't directed at him.
"So, tell me Todoroki," I continued, struggling to keep calm. "Did you make Kuse cry?"
He jumped up out of his seat, desperately shaking his head and holding his arms out in defense.
"Look, Tsujihara-"
"Tora." I interrupted him.
"Right," He nodded nervously. "Tora, I found him crying in a stairwell, he got lost and I brought him here."
I felt a tug on my shirt and I looked down at Kuse.
"Don't be mean to Shoto, Tora," He huffed, puffing out his cheeks. "He needs more friends, be nice to him."
Todoroki flushed red and I laughed, ruffling Kuse's blue curls as I felt my anger and fear melt away.
"Alright, I won't be mean to Todoroki. In fact, I think I'll try being his friend." I chuckled, looking at Kuse before turning to look at Todoroki. "What do you say? Friends?"
I offered my hand and I saw Todoroki's eyes widen a bit. He slowly extended his own hand and I grabbed it in mine, shaking it before letting it go.
"Sorry about all that, Todoroki," I laughed awkwardly. "I might be a little overprotective."
"It's fine," Todoroki replied, then looking away shyly. "Because we're friends."
Suddenly Uraraka threw herself at me, squeezing me in a tight hug.
"Don't leave me out!" She pouted, then looking at Todoroki. "And any friend of Jiji's is a friend of mine!"
Todoroki looked stunned, but I swear a saw a small smile on his lips. I couldn't help the sappy feelings that were bubbling up. Probably because I still felt that Todoroki and I were similar, despite not being similar people at all.
Uraraka broke me out of my thoughts. "So, where's Iida?"
"Now that you mention it, he should've been here by now," I said, then sighing. "I told him right after our fight to meet me here."
"I'm sure he's just in the bathroom or something." Uraraka chirped, then changing the subject. "Hey, do you guys think Deku's out of surgery yet?"
"Who knows?" I shrugged.
"I'm going to go check," Uraraka decided. "You guys want to come with me?"
"I'll go." Todoroki said quietly.
"I'll stay here," I answered. "I'll meet up with Tenya and then meet you guys over there."
"Okay," Uraraka agreed. "See you in a bit!"
Uraraka got up from her seat and headed for the stairs, Todoroki following after her. I took my seat, Kuse climbing into an empty seat next to me.
I sighed, leaning on the arm rest as I organized my own thoughts.
Tenya's behavior was worrying, and it had been all day. It was progressively getting worse and worse, and I felt terrible not being able to do anything. It's not like I can make Tenya's brother return his calls, and until Tenya heard back from him, he's going to continue to worry, which causes me to worry, which stresses me the fuck out.
More than anything else, I hated that I had a bad feeling about today. The last time I had a bad feeling was the day of the USJ attack, and shit got wild that day.
"Tora," Kuse said, breaking me out of thought. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah," I sighed. "Just thinking about some stuff."
"What kind of stuff?" He asked curiously.
I ruffled his hair, chuckling. "It's grown up stuff, you're too young to understand."
"Hey!" Kuse protested. "You're not a grown up either!"
"I'm more grown up than you."
Kuse's jaw fell slack, he didn't have an argument for that. He crossed his arms with a huff, sticking his tongue out at me.
I smiled for a moment before I went back to my thoughts.
Should I go look for Tenya? But then I'd have to take Kuse with me, obviously he shouldn't be left alone, he already got lost once. But it would help having Kuse with me to search, I can't go into the men's bathroom myself.
But thankfully, Tenya returned before I could start putting together a search party. He walked down the stairs and took a seat on the other side of me, sighing.
"Anything from your brother?" I asked.
"Not yet," Tenya said, shaking his head. "But since I've managed to make it to round three I need to focus on the Sports Festival."
"True," I agreed. "You will be fighting Todoroki next, and he's a tough opponent."
"I'll cheer for you Tenya!" Kuse exclaimed, butting into our chat.
Tenya smiled at him, patting his head. "Thanks, Kuse, I'll give it my all."
"Anyway," I said, redirecting the conversation. "Uraraka and Todoroki went to see if Midoriya is out of surgery yet. I told them that we'd meet them there."
"Then let's not keep them waiting." Tenya replied, beginning to walk away.
"We're right behind you." I chuckled, grabbing Kuse's hand and following behind Tenya.
The walk there was silent, and suddenly I felt Kuse tug on my hand. I looked down at him, wondering what he wanted to say.
"You were awesome today," Kuse whispered. "And super cool."
I smiled, whispering back. "Thanks Kuse, I'm glad you think I was cool."
"You're super cool." He whispered loudly.
I struggled to hold back my laughter. "I'm the coolest there is."
Kuse nodded sharply in agreement.
I may not have made it all the way to the finals, but I did feel accomplished. Making it to round two isn't bad, and as long as Kuse was happy, so was I.
I also got a bit closer with Todoroki, but I suppose I have Kuse to thank for that.
Now if only Tenya's brother would respond, then I'd have a lot less to worry about.
