vingt-trois

The hum of the engine was resounding, sounding loudly in her ears as it echoed around the cab. It was early compared to when she had gone to bed, early enough for her to get home from her night spent at the Cullen's and greet her father before he had gone to work.

They had spoken briefly before he left, leaving Andy in a quiet home with only Edward and Bella- though they didn't really talk. Edward remained at her sister's side while she slept- something that was a little odd, perhaps even creepy but she didn't mention it.

Rather, she spent her time silently observing as the dusting of fog that came with the fluctuating temperatures of Forks disappeared with Mr. Darcy in her lap with a scalding cup of coffee. It was easy for her to relax knowing that Edward would ensure his family that she had gotten home safe, more so seeing as how tired she had been last night.

She wondered if they would care that she had one of there many cars and was planning to use it to go visit the reservation. She wanted to meet with Quil, to surprise him since all her trips to his side of the treaty were either coordinated or spontaneous these days.

More so, she wanted to spend time with him genuinely like how they use to, before everything became a big mess and the lines between fear and reality blurred due to the jumble of thoughts and emotions that rang in her head.

With the impending doom of the future events- an army of newborns that were hellbent on destroying her family- Andy wanted to spend every moment taking in every detail. Quil may not have been conventionally beautiful to others, but the young Swan girl loved him with everything that she had and believed him to be the most striking person she had ever seen, and possibly would every see.

This was the depth of her affections, even if they were not always presently apparent there was no denying the way her heart felt for him.

Thinking back on it, she had no direct answer to when she had fallen in love with him, such a thing could not be measured- or at least that's what she believed. It was not a singular moment when she suddenly fell in love with him because it did not happen as such. It did not feel like falling because it was slow, it was drawn out and steady. It grew on her in a way that she would never disagree with.

When she recalls when she first realized that such a feeling actually existed for him, it was something she could laugh back on. Hindsight was always funny that way, Andy could now easily admit to herself that she was silly for not seeing it sooner.

She shook her head and downed the rest of her coffee, the hot liquid burning its way down her throat and spread a warmth through her. The girl placed the cup down and scooped up the small cat and made her way to get ready.

Mr. Darcy rolled around on her bed while she tossed on random things, wanting to be comfortable while she was running on a lack of sleep. Still, she could not stop the giddy smile that took over her at the thought of seeing him - Quil always made her feel as though she was fumbling while in perfect control, he made her a perfect mess.

It pained her to imagine the way she had treated him; though she did not regret the way she felt, or her beliefs, she did regret the way she went about things, how she had not taken the time to think things out as she normally wold have. Shame pricked at her, and she clutched at the fabric of her shirt.

Andy did not want him to be upset with her, not in any way. Hands shaking gently, she curled her fingers before relaxing them multiple times trying to ease the panic that ate at her.

If he was to be upset with her over the things she had said then she would never be able to stand it.

Now in a rush, she scooped up her tiny cat and a random camera for comfort before bolting out the house. She needed to see him, to have him tell her that everything was going to be okay, that he wasn't mad at her.

The car keys dangled from a finger, swaying as she ran out to the fancy car whilst trying not to drop everything. Andy was unsure of who owned the actual car, only having accepted the keys as Alice handed them over. The pixie had probably seen her heading to La Push and opted out of driving her home like she normally would.

She didn't complain about it, however, and simply slid into the sleek interior after a few minutes of awkwardly fumbling around outside. The car was already moving before she realized it and she was making her way to the reservation with a renewed vigor.

The drive was calm and settling, distracting her from the panic that had beat at her chest until the first of the houses came into view.

It itched at her, the feeling that she was a horrible person only growing the closer she got to Sam's house. Her heart race wildly as she recognized these emotions solely as her own, no other influence to sway how she felt.

Andy observed the few people that were out, taking in the silence that was the early morning. She didn't know where he was at the moment, where an of them were, but she knew that the pack leader was like a base for them that always supplied a large amount of food.

She wasn't sure how long she sat out front with the engine off and her hand on the handle just staring. A soft tap to the side of her face from the kitten's soft paw broke her out of her tormenting thoughts.

"I'm not sure if they're even awake," she whispered whilst smoothing her companions fur. "They were all out late as well."

A gentle purring was her response as Mr. Darcy shoved his head further into her hand.

"I really wouldn't want to wake them but it looks weird for me to sit here and wait, doesn't it?"

She got up with a sigh, climbing from the car steadily with Mr. Darcy held to her chest. She didn't bother locking the doors as she stepped up to the house, the chattering inside heard before she even got to the front steps.

Andy tittered and slowed to a stop, allowing herself a moment to let their emotions hit her and was happy to only get hit with annoyance and sleepiness. The wolf pack was having a good start to their day.

Smiling softly, she continued to the house, her fist was raised to knock when the door swung open- a smug Lynn standing there with her brother close behind, each with a breakfast sandwich in hand.

"We thought you were never gonna come in," the Cameron siblings spoke in unison then each turned to the other with a growl.

Her giggles were quiet but it was enough to have her friend beam at her. "Want something to eat?" Lynn asked, shoving Jared out the way so she could lean in closer to Andy.

A sharp cough caught their attention, causing the shifter girl to smile sheepishly while Andy was left confused- though this clearly changed when she left a sting of jealousy in her side. Embry was sat at the table watching them with narrowed eyes.

"I'd love to but I really wanted to see Quil," she mumbled, uncomfortable at the change in atmosphere.

"He's not here yet," Jared stated around a mouthful of food. "He had to patrol after the little meeting thing we had last night."

"Speaking of which, how did you do that to Jasper?" Lynn caught her attention again.

Andy shifted on her feet, the fingers of her free hand curled around the hem of her shirt. "I just used emotions on him, from like empath abilities."

"Like when we were with Billy?"

"Kinda like that but a little bit different. Jasper has been helping me train so I could protect myself better."

Lynn huffed and Andy felt a flash of irritation. "I know that you're more than capable of protecting me but it's still good for me to know how."

"I guess you were pretty badass last night," the other girl mumbled, and shoved the rest of her food in her mouth.

"It was more panic than anything," Andy muttered. "Plus, jasper went easy. He always does."

A brown head of hair shot in front of her and she was greeted by wide, excited brown eyes. Lynn's face was inches in front of her, grinning excitedly.

"I wouldn't go easy on you; you deserve better than that. Can we give it a try?"

"No."

A thrill ran through her, a shiver going up her spine. His voice was so calm, so smooth that it made her ache to be next to him- to hear him say more. She glanced over her shoulder, her happiness fading as she took in the dark circles under his eyes.

He didn't exude the normal pride that he normally did as his shoulders were hunched and tense. Andy could almost imagine the kind of ache that he felt in his muscle despite his quick healing. He was exhausted.

Dropping Mr. Darcy in Lynn's hands, Andy all but ran towards Quil and began pulling him to the couch so he could sit- her hands trailing up his arms as far as she could reach.

When he collapsed in the seat, she scrambled so that she was perched behind him. Her fingers worked over his shoulders, pressing firmly causing him to grunt.

"I don't understand why you pushed yourself so hard. If you knew that you had patrol then you should have gotten rest instead of showing up to the party," she scolded in a whisper.

"I wanted to see you," he told her, his head tilting back so he could look at her. His dimples shown, a cheeky grin on his face.

Andy leaned forward, brushing her lips over his. He tasted of peppermint, his breath flushing against her in a sweet exhale.

"I'm sorry," mouth touching his just barely as she spoke. "For being such an awful person to you."

Quil pulled away, spinning around so that he faced her fully. He took her hands in his and pulled her in a swift motion that landed her in his lap with his arms wrapped around her in a warm embrace.

"What are you talking about?"

She remained quiet for a moment, trying to collect her thoughts before her mind got ahead of her once more. Her head was a mess and it made her feel heavy, burdened with things that should not have tortured her.

"You deserve someone better than myself. I'm always letting my emotions get the best of me, and I treat you horribly because of it. I was angry with you for something that was not your fault; I even forgave Lynn before you. It seems I'm always angry with you, even if you don't deserve it," she sniffled, unaware that she was crying until her throat felt clogged on emotion. "And I can't promise that I won't do it again, nor can I blame my fear and hesitations on what I am."

"You're an idiot," Quil told her, pressing his cheek to the top of her head. "You are the best I can ever get, Andy, and I sure as hell know that you could do better."

"There's no such thing," she hissed, clinging to his arms that were wrapped tightly around her

"I could never want anyone other than you," he whispered.

"I'm a hypocrite though, and I cause you so many problems. How can you not be mad at me?" Andy cried. "I've done so many reckless things, and I nearly get killed like all the time, and I have so many scars that-"

He spun her around so that she straddled him and pressed his mouth firmly to hers. Andy could taste the salt from her tears against him but it did nothing to stop the tingle that spread through her- electric as it brought her nerves to life. They pulled away with a gasp, Andy drawing in shaky breaths.

"Is that what brought you here so early? You're going to drive me crazy one day," he groaned, his forehead resting on hers. "I could never be mad at you, not even if I really wanted to. I love you far too much."

"All of the things that my hands have touched, you are the best by far. You will always be the best because I am completely entranced by you in every way. I love you, and that will never change. I am yours, forever. An eternity of endless love will never amount to the way I feel about you."

The sincerity of Andy's words did not surprise her as it did Quil- the boy tensing as he took in what she had said, and she would have been alarmed had she not felt any negative emotions coming from him. She had left him dumbstruck, a goofy smile slowly appearing on his boyish features.

"I can't believe you're mine." His lips found hers, smoothing together innocently.

Andy pulled away, speaking against his lips. "Always."
