Quatre
Twilight was an eerie time of day when situated deep in the woods. The air lingered with a winter chill from the northern winds that were slowly letting away to warmer days. The ground was drier; leaves were nearly fully bloomed but her breath still came out in heavy clouds. The cold did little to her, she was very much accustomed to the way it felt to be around frozen stone.
She knew that they were nearby, close to her in the fact that she continued to stand in their line of sight; all she had to do was call for them.
It was in the eerie twilight that she stood by the little creak that doubled as a section of the treaty line. It felt no different to any other part of the forest but she assumed that there was something that she wasn't quite seeing.
Pulling in a deep breath, she let her senses pick as far as possible. Throughout the week up until today, Jasper had been teaching her, helping her get in touch with her abilities. She knew that she was no where near capable of using them in the way he intended, in the way she needed, but there was an odd occasion where she could get herself to work in the way she wished.
Jasper, despite her constant begging, had refused to tell her what he believed her powers were transforming into. He had a few theories, she had over heard him confiding so in Carlisle but he had repeatedly expressed to her that he did not want to et her hoped up.
It was quite a sight to see many people being affected by the emptions that she took on when it would work. She wasn't sure exactly what it was that she was doing or how, but Jasper had simply given her instructions.
"Focus and search for her, try to pick up her emotional aura," he had told her. "Then when you can sense her near, send her the strongest sensation of hunger."
Acting upon his instruction, he focused. Hearing and breathing in the sensations of life around her. Being in the woods was something she enjoyed tremendously, something that would have been enjoyed had it been any other moment.
Fear was prominent in her heart but she willed the muscle to beat naturally instead of the frantic thumping that it was previously doing.
"She's nearly here, Andy," Jasper's voice flooded her ears. "Concentrate."
The young girl grunted in agitation and rolled her eyes before closing them. Her senses were not as strong as a vampire, she didn't posses that advantage. The beating of her own heart was the only advantage that she had over the immortal creatures.
She willed her heart to sound louder, to sound melodic in its rhythm. She imagined that if it could, her heart would shine from her chest with a radiant light that was blinding. Andy knew that she was weak beyond repair in body but her heart was fiercer than the strongest nation; harder than the most impenetrable stone.
With Victoria on her mind, she forced hunger to push its way to the vampire that had them all standing in waiting.
With her eyes still shut, she had no idea as to how long they were standing around waiting.
"Are you sure it was here?" Emmett groaned, Andy was surprised she could hear him at all.
The rest were quiet, not giving in to the boy's complaints. They had no care as to how long they waited if it brought them good results.
"There, on the left," Alice found herself calling out.
Feelings herself tense, Andy forced her eyes open and looked around her. She could feel a flutter of emotions that snapped around in the air and nipped at her skin.
"Don't chase her off, draw her here!" Andy shouted.
"No, we'll chase her easy if we can prevent involving you," Jasper yelled out from somewhere in the trees.
"Jasper, I swear to god! There has to be a reason that Alice seen it, bring her to me!"
She couldn't hear his reply, but she assumed that her words were headed and that they were busy corralling the redhead toward her.
The flash of red in the night had all former confidence escaping her body. The snarl on her face was horrifying but Andy refused to let it show anymore than necessary. Anger was the overall sensation that she was getting from the woman. Her hair as wild as ever, eyes calculating and cat-like.
"Little Andrea, how surprising it is to see you here," Victoria purred.
She didn't move to respond. It was hard for her to be faced with such a villain but knew that her life wouldn't be lost to the crazy lady.
"Not going to speak?" Andy felt agitation spark in her.
"There is not much to say, seeing as we have already been closely acquainted our previous meeting." The civility in her voice was unforgiving even to herself.
"What sweet words, I am surprised you can rise to such a level of respect," the vampire spat.
"I like to view it as pride. I no that I am far better than you than to allow such demeaning words to wound me."
A flash of red was followed with pain flaring through her back. She gasped, lungs screaming as she tried to right herself from having been slammed into a tree. It was to surely leave a mark.
"How's that for you pride?" the vampire sneered.
"Much prettier than yours is, that's for certain."
Andy felt herself being gripped by the arm before spinning through the air. Never had she wished to feel lit again, the way she was tossed carelessly into the air without a grip on solidarity. Landing was just as painful as the tree, if not more. Her side seared, her forehead made an ill sounding smack against the forest ground.
"You know, violence isn't always the answer," the human coughed out. The feeling of danger was imprinted into her mind, her body radiated it as she tried to keep herself from further damage.
"Andy!" Jasper's presence brought a sense of safety to the girl.
"Not yet," she mumbled.
A foot landed into her stomach and she went onto her back, groaning with the force. Hurt couldn't describe the way she felt. Fear was prominent in her but she knew that she still had things to do.
Lifting her hands to cup her mouth, she sucked in a gasping breath before releasing a shaky, pain filled howl. Andy had no idea why she assumed it would work, but she knew it would so she tried again and was much more relieved to hear it come out stronger and clearer.
"Howling like a dog little Swan," Victoria teased.
She pushed herself up to her knees and glared at the redhead. "I didn't know you were that stupid, Vicky. Dogs bark, wolves howl."
Anger flashed in her eyes and she advanced on the girl again. A cold, dainty hand wrapped itself around her throat cutting off all air supply. She was lifted into the air, her hands clawed at the stone one desperately.
"I will get to your sister, you know. I already have a plan, already have someone helping me," the redhead boasted.
Pain filled her head, fire scorched her throat. Her eyes watered, face red with the lack of oxygen.
"Andy!" the sweet voice of Alice had Victoria dropping her to the ground.
Gasping for air, she watched as the redhead prepared to run. "Don't run Victoria, aren't you hungry?"
Andy pushed the feeling towards the vampire desperately, so close to having the answers that she wanted.
She would always be incredibly amazed by the abilities of a valerian. How she herself can flip from one emotion to the other, flip from no emotions to all at once. How she can sit and watch as a self-controlled vampire with an ultimate goal and a will to survive turn ravenous upon a mere suggestion.
"Tell me, is the young Riley Biers part of your grand scheme?" she whispered. She shook slightly in fear but never once did she move.
"Andy!"
"Wait!" she hissed. The hungry vampire took hold of her hair and yanked it to the side. Fear escaped her as the girl ran her nose along her scarred throat. "Tell me Victoria, are you involve with the murders that had been springing up in the surrounded cities? For Riley Biers?"
The vampire's lips pressed against her skin and a shiver ran down her spine. "You're quite perceptive. Full of assumptions."
"Andrea!"
"Almost time Alice," she mumbled. Teeth grazed her and she flinched. "I'm very observant."
"Riley's mine," Victoria spoke.
Pain pierced her neck and warmth trickled down her front. Being fed from was, unfortunately, familiar to her. The feeling of having your essence pulled for your body as you held consciousness was quite painful but the longer it continued, the more disassociated you grew.
Growls filled the air, angry and loud pair with snarls and hissing. Heavy feet and ground shaking had the vampire ripping herself off her neck. Andy watched with blurry eyes and a triumphant smirk at how distressed Victoria looked before the large group.
A loud thud landed near her, within ear shot before the redhead disappeared.
"Now," she whispered.
