Nevaeh Johnson has struggled with cystic fibrosis since she was a little girl. Wherever she goes, she is forced to carry around an oxygen tank. She has always been embarressed because of her condition, which is one of the reasons that she begged her mother to pull her out of public school and home school her.

Kaia Yang is known as a problem child. She has been expelled from four other schools in the past for causing fights, vandalism, and many other reasons. Her mother hopes that the small town of Shallow Stream will help Kaia get back on the track of a good future.

Kaia and Nevaeh meet when Naevaeh's parents head out of state on a business trip. With no one to watch over their daughter, they turn to their new neighbors. Mrs. Yang sees this as a perfect opportunity for Kaia to meet 'someone good and pure'. 

Cue late night pillow talks, shared secrets, and a blossoming new friendship.
