Chapter Thirty-Three; All Fall Down

The next morning, after Ryan and Janelle had eaten breakfast and gotten ready, they began to head to the apartment. The drive was mostly silent, like the entire morning had been; Janelle was honestly scared of what the outcome of this may be, although, she felt much better with Ryan coming with her.

Even through her fear and worry, though, she wanted to do this. She wanted to leave Joshua for once and for all, and finally start over with her life. What she needed was a clean slate; she could find someone who truly cared about her, and her life would finally begin.

She glanced over at Ryan, who, due to the bright morning light, was wearing a pair of sunglasses to protect his eyes from the sun. His eyes happened to meet her gaze, and he gave her a small smile, before she looked back out the window.

Being that it was Saturday, Janelle guessed that Joshua would be home, lounging around; or at least, she hoped he would be, otherwise, they'd have to do this another time.

All morning, she had been preparing what she'd say to him. She had a pretty good idea of what point she'd try and get across to him, but she wasn't so sure he'd want to hear it. For all she knew, she could end up just saying, 'It's over,' and marching out.

"So," Ryan mumbled, breaking her out of her thoughts. "What's the plan?"

He looked over at her, and she bit her lower lip. She had been thinking about that all morning as well, and she had finally decided how she wanted it to play out. However, life had its way of playing tricks on her, so everything could end up going completely different than she hoped.

"I think I'll go in, first." She muttered, causing him to furrow his eyebrows at her.

"Will You be okay?" He Asked quietly.

She nodded. "All I need is enough time to break up with him," She Said, looking over into his green eyes. "Then you can come in, and we'll start grabbing whatever we can."

He nodded, looking back out at the road. "Are you sure you don't want me to come in with you?"

She nodded again. "I think it's for the best," she mumbled. "I don't want him to think that I'm cheating, because I wouldn't do that. And I would rather there not be a big fight like at the restaurant."

Ryan bit his lip, nodding. "Okay.." he said. "How long should I wait before I come in?"

She shrugged. "Like I Said, just give me enough time to basically say 'fuck you, I'm leaving," She Said. "Oh, and throw everything he's done wrong in his face."

Ryan let out an ironic chuckle. "Then I won't be coming in for about a week." He mumbled, causing her to chuckle softly.

The lightheartedness in the vehicle suddenly went away, though, as Ryan pulled up into the parking lot of the apartment complex. Memories of the night Joshua had first hit her flashing through Janelle's mind, especially when she spotted the two vehicles she had hidden between, parked in the same exact place they had been that night.

She quickly averted her eyes, taking a deep breath in an attempt to keep herself composed. If her mind was full of anxiety, she'd never get through this without breaking down.

Ryan parked the vehicle rather close to the doors, before taking off his sunglasses and looking over at Janelle. Their eyes met, and he hesitated, before reaching out his hand to place it on her cheek.

"Be careful, okay?" He Said. "I'll see you in a bit."

She nodded.

"You're sure you don't want me to come with?" He Asked again, and she nodded.

"I'm sure," She mumbled. "I'll be okay."

He nodded, before giving her a reassuring smile, lowering his hand to her shoulder to gently pat her there. "Now go leave that son of a bitch."

She let out a small chuckle, before opening the car door, stepping out. She shut the door, and, taking a deep breath, she began to step up to the apartment doors, not looking back. She would've, Of course, felt more safe if Ryan was with her, but she had decided that, since Joshua was a cheating liar, she didn't want to go in there and break up with him with another man beside her. She knew that then, Joshua would surely put the blame on her, accusing her of cheating, although she never had.

This was for the best, and she had comfort in the fact that Ryan would be coming in soon, at least, hopefully after she had ended it with Joshua. She was eager to just get it done and take all of her stuff out of the apartment, so she could just be through with this dark part of her life.

She took another deep breath as she entered the apartment building, walking inside and approaching the stairs. She made her way up to her former floor, her feet feeling heavy as she walked up to the door to the apartment.

She swallowed, pulling her keys out of her pocket.

This is it, she thought to herself. No turning back now.

She stuck her key into the keyhole, reluctantly turning it. When she felt a click, she pulled it out, sticking it back in her pocket, before hesitantly opening the door. She stepped inside, immediately seeing that the kitchen counter was covered in empty bottles of alcohol, mostly large wine bottles that looked like they had costed a fortune.

The atmosphere reeked of alcohol, and Janelle swallowed, wondering what exactly Joshua had gotten himself into this time.

Just then, though, she heard a voice, breaking her out of her thoughts.

"Who the hell are you?"

She immediately looked up, seeing a woman, wearing her Wallflowers T-shirt, with her Jakob Dylan on it, in the living room, seemingly just standing up from the couch.

Seeing one of her favourite shirts on a complete stranger, especially one that Joshua was cheating on her with, infuriated Janelle. She clenched her fists, glaring at the woman.

"Who the hell are you?" She Asked harshly.

The woman didn't answer, but instead, she looked over towards the bedroom. "Josh! Josh, come out here!"

"I'm coming, hold on.." Janelle heard Joshua mutter in the other room, before he stepped into the living room. "What's up?"

The woman huffed, pointing over at Janelle, who stood there, completely frozen as her mind raced. Joshua made eye contact with her, and she swallowed, feeling the intensity of his anger just by looking into his pale blue eyes.

"Babe, just go wait for me in the car, okay?" He spoke in a low voice to the mystery woman wearing Janelle's shirt.

"Why?" She Asked quietly.

"Just go, I'll be out there." He said, causing her to nod.

She stepped over to the door, scowling at Janelle as she passed her. Immediately after the door closed, Joshua stepped up to Janelle, causing anxiety to fill her chest.

"Why are you here?" He asked in the same low voice he has used with that woman just moments ago.

Janelle swallowed, attempting to gain back some of the confidence she had had going in there. "I've come to get my things," She muttered. "But it seems that someone else is using them at the moment."

"Why?" He simply asked.

"You tell me."

"No, I mean, why are you coming to get your things?" Joshua Asked, Seemingly already growing irritated.

"Why do you think, Joshua?" She Asked, raising her voice a little. "You've cheated on me, you've hit me, you've attacked me. I'm done."

"What about you? I know you're cheating on me." He growled.

"I'm not, but even if I was, it'd be perfectly justified," Janelle scoffed. "Considering that you've cheated on me more than once."

"So that's it, then?" He spat. "After everything I've done for you, you're just walking out?"

Feeling a surge of confidence, Janelle stepped forward, giving him a light shove.

"The only thing you've done for me was hurt me and make me feel like nothing," she hissed at him. "I've given you chance after chance, and you know what? I was wrong. You've never changed. So yeah, this is me, walking out."

"You're making a mistake." He muttered.

"The only mistake I made was coming back to you." She quickly retorted.

The two stood there, in a silence full of tension as they stared into each other's eyes harshly. Suddenly, catching Janelle by surprise, he grabbed her by the collar of her shirt, throwing her against the wall roughly.

She let out a surprised whimper, before he pinned her against the wall. At this point, he seemed to have no more comebacks, so he was only resorting to being violent to keep her in her place.

She struggled underneath his grip, letting out a growl. "Let me go, Joshua!"

"You don't know what you have," He growled. "I've cared for you, I've loved you.."

"You never loved me!" She Shouted. "I've never felt loved by you, not once!"

He looked at her angrily, bringing back his hand to slap her in the face. Only, just before his hand could collide with her cheek, she lifted up her right hand, blocking his from hitting her.

He let out a growl of frustration, before catching Janelle off guard, grabbing her by her throat. She felt panic rise into her chest. Why wasn't Ryan in there already? She should've just let him come with her in the first place, but she didn't think that this would happen.

"Joshua, let go!" She raised her voice at him, trying to pry his hand off of her neck.

He squeezed a little, and she let out a cough. "Don't." He growled.

Janelle began to feel to feel her heart pound in her chest, as she decided to make an attempt at something that could possibly risk her getting hurt at the hands of Joshua.

"Ryan!" She screamed. "Ryan, please!"

Joshua's eyes widened. "He's here?"

"Ryan!" She continued to scream, causing Joshua's hand to tighten around her throat again. She looked up at him with wide, fearful eyes, feeling pain shoot through her neck as Joshua held onto her tightly.

"Shut up!" He growled, just before Janelle looked up, seeing the door burst open, revealing Ryan, whose eyes immediately went wide.

Joshua turned to see him as well, releasing her, letting her fall to the ground, gasping for breath.

Ryan clenched his fists, a clearly angry expression on his face as he made eye contact with Joshua, who ran a hand through his hair.

"So, Ryan, where did we leave off?" He asked cockily.

"I believe I was kicking your sorry ass." Ryan growled, before approaching Joshua, pulling his fist back to punch him.

After landing a successful hit, he pulled back his first again, but Joshua's fist met Ryan's face, first.

As the two began to get into a fistfight, Janelle brought herself to her feet, stumbling away from the both of them and pulling her phone out of her pocket.

She pressed the emergency call icon, immediately calling 911, before bringing the phone to her ear. After only a couple of rings, there was an answer, and, without letting the person on the other line speak first, she told them her name, address, and the current situation.

"Wait, What?" The woman on the other end asked.

"There's a fight breaking out at the apartment.." she repeated, before coughing a little. "Things could get bad, just...come quick, please."

She hung up, shoving her phone back in her pocket, before walking a little closer to Ryan and Joshua, watching as they both pushed and threw each other around, faces and fists already bloody.

She wanted to call out for them to stop, but she knew that wouldn't help anything; Joshua was already angry as it was, and just seeing what Joshua had done to her, Ryan was clearly livid himself.

She prayed in her head that Ryan would take Joshua down so they could both just get out of there.

Come on, Ryan, she thought to herself, swallowing back the lump in her throat as she watched Ryan throw another punch at Joshua.

In return, Joshua threw him into the living room coffee table, kneeing him in the stomach sharply, causing him to let out a cry of pain, before he got a grip of Joshua's shirt, pushing him away from him.

Joshua reared back his fist to punch Ryan again, but Ryan kicked him in the crotch, before punching him instead.

Leaving Joshua temporarily disabled, Ryan reached his hand out to Janelle. "Janelle, let's go." He said, trying to catch his breath.

Janelle quickly nodded, beginning to approach Ryan. Just then, she saw Joshua moving behind him, and before she had a moment to think, a loud shattering noise filled the air, and Ryan fell to the floor, a large, bloody gash on the side of his head.

"Ryan!" Janelle cried, before looking up at Joshua, who had the neck to a large wine bottle in his hand. He let out a small chuckle, before dropping it beside the unconscious Ryan, along with the shattered pieces of the bottle he had struck him with.

He nudged Ryan with his foot, before looking up at Janelle, who felt her hands begin to tremble. "J-Joshua.."

He smirked a little. "Yes, Jan?"

"Y-you son of a bitch!" She Shouted, her voice breaking.

He immediately reached out, grabbing her roughly.

"Excuse me?" He spat.

"You heard me." She growled.

Without hesitating, he pulled her into the hallway, opening up the closet, and throwing her in. She fell to the floor, looking up at him.

"If you'll excuse me," he said. "My girlfriend is waiting for me outside."

Janelle went to stand, but he slammed the closet door, locking it and leaving her in the dark.
