It was just as Brandon believed, the other dragon slayers were growing scales too. But to add to that the takeover mages were acting a bit off too. It really made everyone think and worry about what was happening, believing that this might be the Garden’s doing. Little did they know that the Garden was dealing with the same issue, but for the poison dragon slayer.

Mitch groaned as he scratched at the scales growing on his skin. This thing had been affecting him for about a day and it was already getting really annoying. Even Johnathan was starting to get worried about him and his health. “Are you sure you are ok? We are attacking soon so this might end up bad for you if you’re not ok.”

Mitch was about to reply when his communication lacrima notified him of a message. He quickly checks it and saw something that gave him both hope and dread. Johnathan gave him a questioning look before Mitch said, “I know what’s happening and I might be able to fix it for tomorrow. I need to go now.” Johnathan only nodded as Mitch walked out of the room and off the island. 

Mitch sighed as he read the message fully, cursing his magic and its timing. “Its that time of year. You need a check-up.” Was what the message read, a message from his “doctor”. He began to think about his doctor as he traveled to her shop, making sure he wasn’t seen at all. 

Slayer magic was rare and very strong but had its downsides too. This awful time of the year was one of them and strangely, it wasn’t all that know about either. Like Mitch has stated before, he actually knows how to use his powers, unlike the others. But what he didn’t say was that he had help learning about his abilities. This doctor of his was his savior in his time of need when he couldn’t control this stupid power and was all alone.

He could only hope that she could help him now with this situation he found himself in. He then stopped in front of a small shop located in a random, dark alleyway. He knocked on the door as was immediately greeted by a large human-like figure at the door, welcoming him in and leading him to the back of the dim store. 

Inside the back room was a small desk and a few chairs littered around. In a maneuverable office chair sat a short girl, her eyes a light pink that fades to yellow with magenta skulls as pupils. Behind the chair to the side was an average-sized girl, her hair a bold with the tips dyed blue and green eyes that seem to dissect every move he makes. 

Mitch rolled his eyes and asked, “What’s with the human bodyguard? I thought needle and Thread were enough for you.” The girl in the rolly chair shook her head and said, “Not a bodyguard, she is a slayer too, I want to see if she is affected as well.” The blond nodded her head at Mitch slightly in greeting, still not uttering a word.

Mitch sighed and got straight to the point, “How do I stop it from happening? I have something really important I need to do and I can’t risk seeing him.” The girl sighed herself and said, “I have an experimental drug that might work. But I haven’t tested it yet since heats only come once a year for healthy dragon and demon slayers.”

“Let me test it then, I’ll be your lab rat! I can’t let this happen, at least not for 2 days.” Mitch said as he squeezed his hands into fists. The girl shook her head and said, “I can’t do that, It might make your heat worse.” Mitch slammed his hands onto the desk and exclaimed, “Please! I’ll take that risk! I need to do this!” 

The blond growled and put herself in front of the smaller girl, “Don’t get violent with Pia!” were the first words she spoke yet they help so much malice. The girl, now known as Pia, said “Calm down Annabeth, he won’t attack. The heat is just affecting his emotions.” Annabeth clicked her tongue but relented, going back to Pia’s side. 

“Fine, I’ll give you the medicine on one condition. I want to monitor you and your vitals during those two days and after those two days I want you here so I can monitor you in person and help you get through your heat.” Pia said with a sigh, Mitch giving her a small, yet very grateful smile. “Thanks, Pia, you are a lifesaver.” 

Pia clicks her tongue and says, “No, if anything this is endangering your life. But if you have something you find more important than your health then you’d go anyway and make the situation worse. I’ll send Thread over to you when the monitor is made with directions on how to apply the monitor and how to take the medicine.” Mitch nodded and began to walk out when the humanlike figure walked into the room, a tray with a teapot and three teacups. 

It offered Mitch a cup and he shook his head, saying “No thanks Needle, I’ll be going now.” Needle only went over to Pia and Annabeth, pouring them a cup of tea as Mitch left the store. Pia sighs, exasperated at the situation and begins to make her chair spin in circles. Annabeth picks up her cup as Pia signals Needle to go off somewhere else. 

Annabeth took a sip of the tea before saying, “That was something alright.” Pia responded with a groan and asked, “Do you think I did the right thing?” Annabeth thought for a moment before answering with, “Logically, you did make the right choice. From what I’ve heard of him from you he would have pushed himself and gotten injured. At least with this, you can monitor him to make sure he ends up ok.”

“Thanks for being here with me, I know that you aren’t a fan of these social situations,” Pia said as her chair stopped spinning. Annabeth smiled and said, “Eh, it’s fine. I’m just glad it didn’t get violent.” Pia giggled quietly a bit before saying, “It wouldn’t have but I’m sure I would be safe with 3 guardians. Now lets go to the lab so I can check you out for any signs of heat. After that I need to make that monitor.” Annabeth chuckled and nodded, following Pia to the lab for her check up, trying to ignore the bad feeling she had about this situation.
