two.
"- bad enough we have to be on a team together, now we all have to stay under the same roof?!" Rose Wilson groaned, glaring at the smirking Jason Todd. "What?!"
The teen boy chuckled. "You act as if that is any different from before for the three of us. The only new elements are Cheshire over there and the fact that we don't have your dad breathing down our necks our every waking moment."
Jade Nguyen snorted. "Never would've taken Deathstroke to be the helicopter type parent."
"He is not my father." Tara Markov snapped.
"Nobody claimed he was, princess. So back off." Rose snarled.
"I kind of insinuated it." Jade shrugged, a ghost of a smirk on her face. The two other girls glared at her. "What?"
"I won't hesitate to kill you, kitty cat." Rose growled. "Watch it."
"I'd like to see you try, cyclops." Jade hummed, not looking the least bit intimidated by the mercenary.
"Enough." The four teens turned from each other when a fifth voice spoke, looking to see Ra's al Ghul standing before them. He glared at all of them, a look of displeasure on his face. "The point of this team is to cause strife among the young heroes, not among each other. Behave yourselves."
"Yes, master." Cheshire bowed, the other three begrudgingly following suit.
"I have a mission for you. Doctor Serling Roquette, the scientist the Shadows were using to create the Fog, has been rescued by the young heroes and is being stored away in Happy Harbor. Eliminate her before she can create a counter to the Fog." al Ghul commanded the four teens.
"Of course." Red X drawled, adding on when he got a glare from the ancient man. "Master."
"However, if she does complete her task of creating a counter to the Fog, let her live. We may find another use for her." Ra's spoke, eyeing the teens carefully. "Understood?"
"Yes, master." The four all spoke at the same time.
"Good. You are dismissed." al Ghul flicked his wrist, signaling to them to leave.
The four teens gathered their supplies and weapons and left their base of operations, making their way to their helicopter. Cheshire took the pilot seat and the other three jostled for the front, Ravager managing to win the miniature battle. Terra and Red X got in the back, the blonde glaring at the back of the older girl's head.
"Oh, cut it out, rocky. I won, like I always do." Ravager stuck her tongue out at Terra.
"Only because you tried to cut my eye out." Terra shot back. "Some of us actually value our eyesight and don't do everything for daddy's approval."
"Oh damn." Red X snorted. "She went there."
Cheshire sighed. "Guys, guys. We all heard al Ghul. We were put on a team to cause chaos for the young wannabe Justice Leaguers." She smirked. "However, if there was some friendly fire while in the field...well, who am I to tattle?"
The other two girls glared at each other as Red X chuckled at Cheshire's words. "I like you, Chesh."
Cheshire turned to the only boy on the team. "Call me that again and you'll be my first target."
"Shit, okay." Red X put his hands up in surrender. "Thought we were bonding but I guess not."
"I'm an assassin. Do you really think I have time for bonding?" Cheshire scoffed.
"Touché."
The rest of the flight to Happy Harbor was in silence as the quartet of teenage mercenaries, assassins, and meta humans prepared themselves for their first mission as a team.
They arrived to the small oceanside town and landed the helicopter on the outskirts of downtown, disembarking together. The trio that had lived together prior to this arrangement looked to Cheshire, the eldest. She rolled her eyes beneath her mask.
"According to al Ghul's intel, they are keeping Roquette at the high school. I say we split up and surround the place. They will most likely have a perimeter watch. We can easily sneak past them, they are young and inexperienced. Once inside, we divide and conquer. Got it?" Cheshire looked at the other three, who nodded along.
Ravager scoffed. "Who made you boss, kitty cat?"
"I'm sorry, are you considered one of the most lethal and skilled assassins in the League of Shadows - no, the world?" Cheshire shot back. Ravager stayed silent. "Didn't think so. Also, I'm the oldest. My word goes. Now let's get this over with."
"Question." Red X raised his hand as if he were in a classroom.
Cheshire sighed. "Yes?"
"Are we keeping the heroes alive?"
Cheshire paused to ponder. "al Ghul didn't say, so for now, yes. Until further notice, the younglings live."
"Gotcha."
The quartet broke apart and made their way to the high school separately, arriving at almost the same time. They saw the perimeter was being watched by a green teen and a blonde girl in a tiger costume with a cross bow and a sword strapped to her back. They evaded the two girls as they leapt over the fence and made their way into the high school, breaking apart to search the place.
"I believe Roquette is being held in the computer labs." Terra called over the com units they all had in their ears.
"You're probably right. We should continue to check the whole school just in case before converging on the lab." Cheshire replied back.
Cheshire came across a teen in a yellow suit and led him on a chase to the pool room, where she set a trap for him. He tripped on the marbles she had spilt and fell on his back, before she stomped on his head and kicked him into the pool. Making her way towards the lab, Cheshire gave her team the all clear to converge on the lab.
They all arrived outside the lab, Cheshire opening the door to throw a shuriken in at the Atlantean that stood with the doctor. He deflected it, the shuriken landing in his arm.
"Ooh, that had to hurt." She mused, stepping into the room with the rest of her team.
"Atlantean skin is quite dense." The teen replied.
"And my shuriken are quite poisoned." Cheshire snickered. She looked at her team. "Ravager, Red X, get the Doctor. Terra, you're with me."
They nodded, leaping into the assignments. Ravager pulled out one of her swords and jumped at the doctor as Red X pulled out his infamous X shaped shuriken, tossing them at the computer the doctor was working on. Ravager ran at the doctor, leaping over the Atlantean's head she landed in front of the doctor. "Hello, Doc. I hope you don't have a DNR."
"Really, Ravager? That was bad." Red X snorted, coming up on the other side of the doctor.
"Shut it." Ravager glared, swinging her sword at the doctor only to be blocked by an arrow. She turned to see the tiger girl from outside standing in the door with her crossbow aimed at Ravager and Red X.
"Don't move." The girl glared.
"This gig is getting interesting." Cheshire commented from her spot mid battle with the Atlantean.
"Maybe a little too interesting." Terra added as a green teen girl came flying in with a speedster right behind. "Plan?"
Cheshire thought about it before throwing a smoke bomb down, the four of them leaping out the window onto a rock Terra had waiting. They floated down to the ground and ran off into the trees that lined the school, watching from there as the team of young heroes moved the doctor to the docks.
"Are we going back after them?" Red X asked.
"Of course. I always complete my missions." Cheshire twirled her sai in her hand, watching from the tree above the Atlantean.
They listened as the Atlantean commanded Miss Martian to stay in camouflage mode before walking out of the trees. Terra tossed a rock at him, sending him flying into the van that was parked outside the little boat house where the doctor was. He was down for the count after that and Cheshire said they didn't have much time before the Martian returned, so they ran to the boat house, entering it through the windows and the door.
"Don't stop working." The tiger girl yelled at Roquette, firing an arrow at Cheshire.
The speedster sped at Red X only for the teen killer to tap the button on his belt, teleporting out of the way. He threw an exploding shuriken at the speedster, one the fast teen dodged.
Ravager and Terra approached the doctor, the blonde lifting a rock from outside over the doctor's head as Ravager held a sword at the doctor's throat.
Roquette turned green and smirked at them. Ravager gasped. "We've been duped!"
Cheshire glared. "Oh, I don't like being played." She kicked the blonde tiger girl in the chest, running out the door. "Pursuing target, keep them busy."
The trio continued their fights with the young heroes. Ravager left the Martian for Terra to deal with, tackling the tiger girl before she could chase after Cheshire. "Where do you think you're going, Kelloggs?"
The girl grunted. "The name is Tigress, learn it." She elbowed Ravager in the ribs, getting out of the pin Ravager had placed her in. Tigress fired an arrow at Ravager, pining her to the floor. She ran out of the door. "Pursuing their leader."
Ravager growled, ripping the arrow out of her uniform, she went to chase after Tigress when the speedster sped in front of her, stopping her from going any further. "Ah ah ah. I'm not done with you."
Ravager rolled her eyes. "Puh-lease." She grabbed the speedster's head with remarkable quickness and brought it down to her knee, breaking his nose. He winced, falling to the ground. "You're lucky we have orders to let you live."
"Gee, thanks." Miss Martian replied, flying at the girl. Terra was on the ground, holding her head. Red X tossed a shuriken at the Martian, one that exploded, sending her to the ground.
"We should go." He called to Ravager, helping Terra to her feet. "Now."
Ravager nodded, running out the door with the other two behind them. They met up with Cheshire outside the computer café, asking her what happened inside. "Is it done?"
Cheshire sighed. "Roquette finished the virus. Our mission is over. Let's go."
They all nodded, following their eldest to their helicopter to report to al Ghul and the rest of the Light on their mission.
As they flew, Cheshire looked at her team. "That was...kind of scary. In a 'woah our skills as a team need to be touched up' kind of way. We need to train together. Also, we need to learn more about the enemy. This mission should've been a walk in the park."
"I agree." Terra grumbled. "We need to learn how to deflect telepaths. I don't like my mind being messed with."
Cheshire looked at Ravager and Red X who both shrugged. "So, it is agreed. After our report, we will train and research the enemy. Any objections?"
"No."
"Good. Let's just hope al Ghul doesn't have our heads for this." Cheshire groaned.
