Chapter Nineteen
And I Try Too Hard

3rd Person POV

ronnie was woken up later that night by jason and the kids sneaking by. she stood up out of bed and she opened the door as she watched them

"jason!" she called and he turned to her

"hi ronnie" he spoke and she smiled

"what are you doing?" she asked and one of the kids spoke up

"going to spy on the competition, won't to come with?" he asked and jason nudged him as she laughed and nodded

"of course i do, give me a few minutes and then i'll be out" she said and she walked back into the cabin as she changed into all black clothes and then put on shoes. she looked at the others before she ran out of the cabin and to them

"you guys ready?" she asked and they all nodded as one of them held up their hands. she leaned down and high-fived him before she looked at jason

"let's go do this" she said and they got in the boats as ronnie had one of them and jason had the other. they handed ronnie a plant hat and she shook her head before they got to the camp and hid the canoes

they ran to the field and they laid down before they put on their plant hats and hid

"plant hats... a beautiful creation" she spoke and jason nodded as they looked left and right

"okay guys stay low" he said and he started to roll against the ground

"idiot" she giggled and the kids next to her giggled too

"okay! don't roll!" he said as he grabbed onto a tree and she stood up as she helped up the kids next to her

"i could've told you that" she stated and he smiled sarcastically at her before

"okay, gently guys. come on, carefully. single file. slow! careful. shh' , guys! careful! come on" jason said and they ran up to the side of the stage where they couldn't be seen

"GO! GO!" jason called and ronnie held the hands of the kids next to her as they watched and ronnie scoffed at tess

"and i try too hard" she spoke and the kid next to her high-fived her as they watched the flashing lights and ronnie groaned

"this sure isn't a camp" she said and the kids brought out the camera as they watched in annoyance and ronnie covered the kids eyes at some point

"go! go! go!" jason said but ronnie stayed back

"well?" tess asked and ronnie laughed

"good , maybe great but this competition isn't about maybe" axel said and ronnie laughed

"YOU SUCKED" she called and she ran off before they could see or catch her

"jesus ronnie you took forever" jason said as she ran back to the boats and she removed the plant from her head

"i had a plan , now let's go before we get caught by axel or worse brown" she said and they all shivered at the mention of his name before they started to row away

they got back to the camp and ronnie helped all of them off of the boats before she tied them up and looked at jason

"i understand why my brother likes you so much" he said and ronnie blushed

"why does everyone keep saying that?" she asked and one of the kids interrupted

"because it's true, anyone with a brain and eyes can see that nate gray is so in love with you" he said and ronnie smiled as she pushed the hat down on his head

"well you don't have eyes now do you?" she asked and he laughed

"thank you for coming tonight, ronnie can we talk, alone?"
jason asked and she nodded

"let's get them to bed first yeah?" she said and he agreed as they brought them back to the cabin and they tucked them in

"night ronnie" they called as she was leaving

"night kiddos" she called back before she left the cabin and she went to the fire place meeting jason

"you saw what i saw... do we really have a chance?" he asked and she sighed

"jason their performance was smoke and mirrors, it's just an act. we're doing this for us , to prove that we have fun and that we don't need to be forced to work. summer camp is fun, not the rest of our life's. i think we can win but it doesn't matter to me, it matters to the world and the judges" she said and he nodded sadly

"it should matter to you though. you're in the business, you know the ups and downs of everything. ronnie you are a genius and anyone can see that. we have a chance of winning because of you and your work" he said and she smiled

"thank you jason" she said and he nodded

"we need to show the others this though, you know how mitchie is..." he led off and she sighed

"yeah i know but that might mean that all of work would be for nothing, are you really ready for that?" she asked and he shook his head

"no but whatever it takes to keep the camp open and running right?" he said

"right" she agreed

"so nate and you..." he began and she laughed softly

"ask away" she stated and he began to ask all the questions he wanted

"are you two dating or is it just like flirting?" he asked

"flirting but he did write me a song and i do want to date him, i mean it's already been almost a month since we met you know" she said and he smiled

"he took my suggestion" jason said

"the song?" she asked

"yeah i told him that if he couldn't say it, he could sing it" jason said and she nudged his shoulder

"you're a genius" she said and he laughed

"i'm really happy for nate by the way but please don't break his heart . i've never seen him like this for a girl" he said and she smiled

" i won't jason i promise, it's late though we should head to bed" she said and he nodded

"good night ronnie" he said as they stood up

"night jason" she spoke and she walked into her cabin as she took of her shoes and changed back into her other clothes so they wouldn't know. she got in her bed and she fell asleep with one thing on her mind

what would happen if they didn't win?
