Alaina stood, desperately trying to fit the last of her textbooks in the small compartment, the school called a locker. She had tried to be neat but the sheer lack of time made her give up. What kind of a break was 10 minutes long? Or rather, 5 minutes since every teacher left you late. They expect you to eat, get your books, talk to people and a billion other things in that small amount time. It was simply impossible.

After accomplishing the mammoth task, Alaina's mind wandered to other things. In particular The new 'power' couple. Wyatt and Crystal had become the number one topic on most people's mind whether it was due to jealousy or pure need for gossip. Unfortunately, the same talks had infested themselves in Alaina's mind.

Is it serious?

Is it all a hoax?

Alaina felt that the relationship was real, but she doubted the serious part. The sparkles that were meant to come in their eyes was never there. Although that was something only written about in books, she felt like there was meant to be something. But this may be the hopeful side of her speaking. From what little she could gather, she figured they were going strong. Good for them.

Later as she sat in class, trying to pay attention, her attention kept drifting to Wyatt. Her daydreams grew stronger as her mind began to trick her into having a chance. She tried to stop thinking about it, to protect herself from false hopes and false dreams. But when she did, her mind would go dark, focusing on her problems, the other half of her life. Scared of the images rushing in, she would push her mind towards thoughts of Wyatt, her personal source of happiness.

She didn't realise it, but as her thoughts of Wyatt consumed her, her heartstring tightened around her like a snake. It's hug was comforting for now, but over time, it would become a death grip. Holding Alaina completely at its mercy.
