Ch. 4

A cold but fresh wind blew. The moon shone brightly above. A full moon. The ground was covered in a thin layer of soft snow. Heartstorm padded slowly, watching his foot sink into the snow. Silverdrop padded quietly next to Heartstorm. Even if the air was cold, Heartstorm felt warm, as if Silverdrop was emitting some sort of heat. They padded quietly, admiring the view as they made their way up the hill. They sat down at the top of the hill. Even as a cold wind blew, Heartstorm didn't feel it at all. It was like falling in love with Silverdrop all over again. They gazed down at the world below.

"You've told me about your parents," Silverdrop said suddenly. Heartstorm cocked his head.

               "Yeah?" he said.

"But I haven't told you about mine," Silverdrop said.

"I know your parents are Thunderspark and Pebblespot," Heartstorm said.

"But I haven't told you about them, or Goosekit or Spottedkit," Silverdrop said.

"You don't need to talk about them, if you don't feel comfortable," Heartstorm assured Silverdrop. They twirled tails.

"But I need to. You're my mate," Silverdrop said.

"You don't have to. I'll love you no matter your past," Heartstorm told her gently and honestly.

"You deserve to know," Silverdrop said firmly. "Gooskit, Spottedkit and I were the best of friends. We were always together. We were a happy family, Thunderspark, Pebblespot, Goosekit, Spottedkit and I. Then something happened between thunderspark and Pebblespot. He attacked her. She was badly wounded and he was put into isolation for half a moon. All three of us, my siblings and I, missed Thunderspark. We didn't really understand what he had done to Pebblespot. But one day, he lured Goosekit and Spottedkit out of camp. I didn't want to go. But I went anyway. We crept out of camp because we had heard Thunderspark. But on our way towards the voice, I- I chickened out. I ran back to camp. Thunderspark killed Goosekit and Spottedkit. They were just kits! Unprotected. Innocent. Pebblespot became extremely protective of me. Even when this kind cat, Goldenmist approached her, she never let me near him. Never let herself near him. But he truly was kind and he took his time with her. Finally, they became mates. But I never got to know him. Pebblespot refused to let us be alone together. But he seemed so nice. I ached for a real father. He seemed like he could have been a good father... He really did. But Pebblespot refused to let me near him. She was too hurt, broken. Then one day, Pebblespot started dying... Frogleap, he had just become medicine cat said she only had a quarter moon. There was nothing he could do. And Thornstar asked her what she wanted... you know, before she died. She said she wanted to see me become a warrior. Thornstar did it. For her. I became a warrior before anyone else. Then one day, Goldenmist died, because of ThunderClan. Pebblespot was overcome with grief and died soon after. Thornstar said I'd still train but after some time, since I was already a warrior, my trainings just ceased." Heartstorm frowned.

               "I'm sorry," he whispered.

"It's ok," whispered Silverdrop. "I have you. Bumblekit. Brightkit. And Sagekit." She leaned into Heartstorm. He breathed in her warm scent. The world swam before him. They pushed against each other, to keep warm.

"I won't let you down," promised Heartstorm. Silverdrop looked into his eyes. Heartstorm's voice caught in his throat. He was lost in her beautiful eyes, a swirl of blue and grey. Perfection.

"You could never let me down," replied Silverdrop. Her voice... His breath felt as if it had been snatched away. He understood how he could have fallen for her. But he didn't deserve her. Heartstorm felt his ears swimming with tears. He loved her so much. Too much. He wouldn't let her go through any more grief. They sat in silence, not needing to talk. They understood each other. No words could explain how much Heartstorm loved Silverdrop but he knew she understood.

"I love you," Heartstorm said anyways.

"I love you more," Silverdrop whispered back.
