Ch. 18
"Do they bury kits if they're bad?" asked Crowkit. Lilykit drowsily snuggled closer to Ravenfall. Heartstorm chuckled.
"I've never seen that happen," confessed Heartstorm. "But sometimes, Lionbreeze would disappear when he was a kit. You never know, they could've buried him. He was not a very obedient kit." Ravenfall rolled his eyes. Crowkit had bombarded Heartstorm with questions about his time in ShadowClan. Heartstorm pricked his ears, hearing a commotion outside. It wasn't very rare nowadays. Cats had been passing the medicine every few seconds, the shouting was normal and the grumbling even more common. Heartstorm knew that the camp was slowly going back to normal and really wanted to help but he liked talking to Crowkit as well.
"You know, you should not believe stupid rumours," purred Ravenfall.
"But Heartstorm confirmed!" exclaimed Crowkit. Reedstar padded into the camp. Ravenfall dipped his head in respect. Reedstar nodded in his direction.
"How are you doing Heartstorm?" he asked, eyeing Sparkbelly who was sprawled in his nest. Heartstorm tried not to look at Sparkbelly as little as possible. He didn't like thinking that Sparkbelly would never wake up because of him. Too many things were because of him.
"Good thank you," Heartstorm smiled.
"Ravenfall," said Reedstar. This was the first time Reedstar had come to visit Ravenfall and the kits. He looked deep in thought. "I am glad you and your kits are healing. And safe."
"Thank you," mumbled Ravenfall awkwardly, his tail twitching.
"I trust Frogleap is taking care of the kits," Reedstar said.
"Yes, thank you," murmured Ravenfall.
"He will tell me when you and the kits are in good enough health," Reedstar nodded then added, "and you will be able to return to WindClan." Reedstar smiled at Heartstorm and swivelled around, padding out of the den. Heartstorm turned to Ravenfall.
"Forgot for a moment we were still in RiverClan," muttered Ravenfall with a sigh. He glanced at Lilykit.
"I like it here," piped in Crowkit.
"We will be going back to WindClan as soon as Lilykit is better," Ravenfall told Crowkit firmly. Heartstorm turned away. He knew that although they were friendly and he had grown to like the kits, they were different Clans. Too close relationships didn't work. He gulped and rested his head on his paws. Frogleap bustled in.
"Reedstar came to visit?" Frogleap said with a raised eyebrow.
"Yeah," nodded Heartstorm.
"You should be good to go tomorrow," Frogleap told Heartstorm approvingly. Heartstorm smiled. Just then there was some high pitched squealing and Brightkit and Bumblekit tumbled into the medicine den. Only Silverdrop had visited Heartstorm the past few days.
"Heartstorm!" exclaimed Brightkit. She ran to him and he embraced her. He was filled with a warm feeling and licked her lovingly on the head. Bumblekit joined them, beaming brightly, purring. Heartstorm smiled and gave Bumblekit a loving nudge.
"How are you its doing?" he asked.
"Good," said Bumblekit. "Silverdrop said we had to let you rest before we could come."
"Ah, well, thank you," Heartstorm nodded.
"Who are you?" asked Crowkit, peering at Bumblekit and Brightkit weirdly.
"I'm Brightkit," Brightkit said, puffing out her chest.
"I'm Bumblekit," Bumblekit smiled.
"Oh," said Crowkit. "I'm Crowkit."
"Hi Crowkit," Brightkit said pointedly. "You're WindClan."
"Hello kits," put in Ravenfall with a smile. "Heartstorm's told me a lot about you."
"Like what?" asked Brightkit suspiciously.
"Nice, good things," assured Ravenfall. "Like how you will be apprentices in three moons...?" He raised his eyebrow at Heartstorm. Heartstorm nodded approvingly.
"Well, I am going to be the best warrior ever," said Brightkit. Crowkit was giving Brightkit a weird look. He almost looked awed.
"I know you are," he muttered. Ravenfall chuckled.
"Hey Heartstorm, how you doing?" came a sweet voice. Heartstorm couldn't help but smile wider. Silverdrop slipped in. She nuzzled him gently.
"What's going on out there?" he asked her as Brightkit and Bumblekit chatted with Crowkit and Ravenfall.
"Camp is looking better. It's mostly the walls around the camp," Silverdrop told him, giving him an affectionate lick behind the ear. "They need a lot of fixing. The food pile is low. And the patrols are very few, we need more. But we're dealing with it." Silverdrop glanced at Sparkbelly.
"Any news?" she asked.
"He woke up a few times. But he doesn't say much...," sighed Heartstorm, filled with dread. "Frogleap says he's going to be ok."
"Then he will," Silverdrop said firmly then flicked her tail at the kits. "Come on, let your father rest. When you out?"
"Tomorrow morning," Heartstorm grinned. Silverdrop smiled back.
"I'm so glad," she said. "I'll come tonight. Come on kits!" Brightkit and Bumblekit trotted after her, shouting their goodbyes. They pushed out of the medicine den.
