Chapter 6

Pulmonary edema. I lay on my bed, researching about this disease. It wasn't that bad. There were cures and preventions. She'd live.

I'm dying anyways. Her words struck a chord with me, I didn't know what to think of that. Did she need money for her treatment? I would pay for it. She had just saved my life.

Everytime I closed my eyes, I saw flashbacks of her coughing up blood. That was probably by far the most traumatic thing I'd every seen.

I was tired and out of power for the day. So I decided to just sleep it off, and deal with everything in the morning.

I was around four or five in my dream. I was playing in the garden, chasing a butterfly, while I encircled it with my light magic. In the corner of my eye, I saw a little girl with silverish eyes, with swirls of different colours near the iris and white hair. Though I wasn't sure if I'd imagined it as a second later, she disappeared.

The butterfly landed on the tip of my nose, and I sneezed and it flew away. After my initial shock of the sneeze, I wiped the my nose, and trailed after the butterfly again.

When my alarm went off at 6:30 AM, I woke up, and for some reason, I didn't forget my dream like I usually did. My thoughts wandered to that girl I'd seen for a split second. She looked a lot like Ivy. But her eyes had a tint of other colours. Ivy's eyes were just silver.

I texted Ivy if she wanted to get breakfast at the cafeteria. My stomach grumbled- I hadn't had anything for forty eight hours.

I got dressed, and got out of my room. Ivy was already there at a table, seated all alone. I loaded my plate with anything I deemed edible.

I walked over to Ivy, and sat down on the seat opposite to her. She had gotten orange juice, an apple and an egg salad.

"Good morning." I said.

"Good morning." She replied stiffly.

I whispered in a low voice, "I have to talk to you about a few things."

She made the go on sign with her fork.

"What is your natural eye colour?"

She swallowed the food she was chewing and said, "Some people freak out after seeing it, so I'll show you later. Next question."

Wow. She was surprisingly cooperative today.

I decided to push my luck with the second question. "What happened yesterday, after you burned the training room?"

The expression on her face darkened. "I used to much power." She repeated.

"Okay. How do you have so much power?" I asked. "Are you a noble or something?"

"Nope. At least I don't think so." She said.

"How did you figure out you can use all types of magic?"

She thought for a second, "When I was four, I saw a boy use his magic, and I thought it was cool so I wanted to try it out, so I did, and I could use his magic."

"Ooh, who was this boy?" I asked playfully, though I felt a twinge of jealousy.

She looked down at her plate, deciding to tell me or not. When she looked up in my eyes, she said so softly that I almost didn't hear it, "You."

"What? When? Me?" I questioned her.

She nodded. "I don't exactly remember, but I was in the palace gardens though I was not supposed to be there, and you were chasing a blue butterfly. You looked at me, and then I hid away with my magic."

No. Freaking. Way. I had seen Ivy before? That was the dream I'd had today! Why didn't I remember this memory?

"How do you remember this?" I inquired, because I didn't.

Probably I was just imagining things, but I saw Ivy's eyes turn from silver to a warmer colour, and turn back to solid silver again. I also saw the tiniest blush on Ivy's cheeks.

"I-I don't know." She lied. I could easily tell when she was lying, I don't know why. Probably it was because her eyes glanced away when she lied.

I decided not to further press this topic, and both of us ate in peace.

She finished eating her salad before I finished eating my fully loaded plate. "D-Do you want to train?" I asked hesitantly, because the air between us had somehow shifted.

Her aura didn't feel quite as cold as it did when I first saw her. Probably because I felt attracted to her. NO I DID NOT! What the heck even am I thinking?!

"Sure." She shrugged, and waited for me till I finished my food.

I focused on my breakfast to distract me from thoughts of Ivy. I miss caviar. I miss my avocado toast with lime. I miss my eggs benedict. And croissants and waffles and muffins and pancakes. Doughnuts. How could I forget bagels??

"Is it possible to teach me how to use other forms of magic?" I asked her when we were walking to the training room.

I was surprised we hadn't been called to the head's office even when we had blown up one section of the building.

"I don't think so. It has always been something I could do." She said tilting her head in thought.

We passed the rankings board on our way, and while I crossed it without glancing, Ivy stopped to see the rankings.

Rank 1: Lucian Kiev and Ivy Walker

Rank 2: Hudson Harris and Landon Harris

C'mon! We didn't kill them! Ivy groaned, and muttered, "What a pain."

Yeah, what a pain indeed. I HATED THEM.

We passed a couple of training rooms where the partners were practicing, and several where they were fighting to increase their ranks.

There was an interesting fight going on between two guys. "Wait." I pulled Ivy's sleeve, "I want to watch this."

She gave a slight nod, "Yeah, me too. Rank 3, Dustin Scott and Felix Haler."

Rank 3. Not bad. They might challenge us if we aren't careful. For fifteen year old Rank 1s, everyone would think we're easy targets.

Heck, we were probably one of the youngest here.

Dark green eyes and dark blue eyes. Dark eye colours didn't mean normal magic. It was a more cultivated form of whatever magic they derived it from.

Dustin Scott (dark green eyes dude) apparently used gravity magic. Peering from outside, I could feel the ground vibrate whenever he raised his hand. He still had to use hand gestures in his mid thirties.

Felix Haler (dark blue eyes guy in his late twenties) used some sort of spatial magic. I wasn't sure what exactly, but it had to be offensive if he was Rank 3. He was well synced with his magic, and could control it without the use of hand movements.

Ivy was analysing them intently, and probably thinking of how she could use their magic.

We were still watching, when suddenly Felix opened a spatial portal, and disappeared. We thought it was time to go, and I walked straight into Felix.

"What are you doing?" He asked in his deep and husky voice.

"N-Nothing." Me and Ivy said at the same time.

He glared at us, "You are the Rank 1s. Prince Lucian, and you." He pointed at Ivy.

I nodded. His partner, Dustin had joined him outside and he was also looking at us. Both of them towered over us, they were like 6'3 or higher giants (I was only 5'10 till now), and Ivy was shorter.

"Do you want to fight?" Dustin asked.

I looked over at Ivy. It was up to her, because she was more powerful. There. I admitted it.

She pointed said with her eyes, Lets go and talk over there.

"One moment." I said, and we talked softly where they could not hear us.

"Do you have enough power after yesterday?" She asked.

"Yes. Can you replicate their magic?"

She thought for a second, "I think I can do gravity magic, spatial- I will have to try. It seems harder to understand. After I trap him in the void, I can analyse the magic more clearly."

"So our first course of action is to trap them in the darkness void. Then Haler can probably easily get out using spatial magic, but by they you will have understood it. You'll buy time with Scott, and when he gets out, I'll deal with him, while you deal with Haler. Right?"

She grinned at me, "Let's do it."
