Chapter 1

There was a lot of pushing and shoving in the room I was in. It was a crowded place, with loud shouting and yelling. I sighed, and leaned back onto the pillar, ignoring everyone and everything.

The door flung open, and I felt the hair on my skin rise. What's up with this chilly aura? My eyes landed on the girl who had just walked in, white hair, and silver eyes. Her's was the coldest aura I had ever felt- so cold that her eyes were silver.

Eyes were a representation of your aura, and aura was a representation of your power. I had golden eyes, making my power her power's direct rival. My aura was warm and happy, while hers was cold and distant.

Her eyes met mine almost instantaneously, and even in a crowded room, both of us stuck out like sore thumbs. Golden and silver eyes. Both of these colours was a rarity, and I was probably the only one in this century to ever have golden eyes.

My power, on the other hand, was second to none. I had a tremendous amount of magic, as royals and nobles received hereditary magic, which only grew with each passing generation.

I had light magic, which had numerous uses and abilities. I could attack, I could heal, and on an emotional level, I could make someone feel happier, and make them trust me easily.

I was a prince, and yet I felt threatened by this foreign girl that walked in. I calmed my nerves down, and looked away, focusing on the television screen in front of us that was supposed to give us instructions.

The black screen finally lit up, and my eyes widened as I read what we were supposed to do. "Only ten will leave this room alive."

We were at least a hundred people from ages between fifteen to fifty. Panic rose in the room, as the weak ones realised that they would die. I didn't want to kill anyone yet, so I just blinded anyone who looked my way.

The silver-eyed girl kept her distance from me, and I could see that she wasn't playing offensive either. There was a much bulkier guy trying to kill her, but he just had regular green eyes.

I was curious to see what the girl would do, and when the guy's magic nicked a little part of her hair, she finally released a small bit of magic energy, in the form of an icicle, and it pierced his throat.

She glanced back at me, trying to gauge my reaction, but I pretended to be fighting a guy in front of me. I flashed light into his eyes, and he winced, and toppled backwards.

I knew that she possessed ice magic, but that wasn't her real magic. Or at least, it didn't feel like it. I got bored, and I filled the room with bright white light, causing everyone to lose their eyesight temporarily.

I made sure that I had blinded that girl too. I made my way towards her, I was sure that if I had to kill anyone here, it would be her.

"You know, you didn't need to blind everyone just to kill me." She said, as I got behind her.

"It was the fastest way to go about it." I shrugged.

She exhaled, "I don't need to see to kill you."

Darkness engulfed me, and not just my vision, but all my senses. I felt like I was being choked, every essence of my being was being squeezed out. Shadow magic? Dark magic?

I heard her voice as clear as day ringing in my head, "I won't kill you now, but if you dare try to kill me next time, I won't hesitate to kill you."

The darkness let me go, and I gasped for air. The girl had apparently gotten her vision back, while the others were still struggling to see.

"Prince Lucian." She bowed, and camouflaged herself in the shadows as the others started to get their vision back. They started fighting each other, and I just stood by the pillar, blinding them when they came near me.

Soon enough, only nine people stood in the room. The girl came out of the darkness, making ten of us, and the television in the room told us to proceed through a door on the right wall. The lock of the door clicked open, and a guy with blue eyes pushed the door open.

Blue eyes? How did a guy with such a normal aura even survive? I got a good look at the survivors in the room. None of them seemed to have exceptional powers that would help them. But they had survived.

The room I just walked into, was a big hall, and there were around five hundred people in the room. Most of them looked tired, probably because they'd exhausted too much of their powers.

Before I knew it, a small crowd had gathered around me, mostly of girls, and they were clamouring to talk to me.

"Prince Lucian! How is your brother Darius?" A girl who was around seventeen asked me.

"Engaged." I replied stiffly. The public doesn't know this yet! Oh well, it's his mess to clean.

The girls asked me to sign their shirts and they flirted with me. In the corner of my eye, I saw the white haired girl rolling her silver eyes at me.

I smirked. I wanted to make her jealous. The next girl who came towards me was averagely good looking, so I grabbed her by her waist, and kissed her. I didn't look at the girl I was kissing, I looked at the silver-eyed girl.

She pretended that she had not seen me kissing anyone, and tried to turn her back to me and talk to a random stranger. As if that would work! Her aura was so cold, no one would want to get within five feet of her!

And yet, I wanted her near me. Probably because keep your friends close, enemies closer? I got bored of talking to everyone, but my warm aura just drew people in.

My golden eyes were on the silver eyed girl, I just wanted to know her name. I tracked down the girl she was talking to, and asked her what the white-haired girl's name was.

"Oh that weirdo? I don't know her name." The girl said, and when I tried to find her in the crowd, she had disappeared.

I pushed through the crowd, looking for the girl. It wouldn't be hard to find her, as she was the only one with white hair.

Did she disappear in the shadows again? No, I'm pretty sure I didn't feel her powers.

The girls trotting behind me, were curious about what I was doing. The girl I had kissed in spite, was giggling in my ear and playing with my hair. Did I give anyone permission to touch my hair?!

I smacked her hand out of my hair, and told the girls to leave me alone using my magic. They obediently nodded, and stopped following me.

"C'mon. Where are you?" I muttered, hoping somehow her shadows would hear me, and would appear from them.

At last, I couldn't find the girl. I sighed as I spent the entire night talking to girls about my brothers, and I couldn't help feel a little jealous. Even though I was not overshadowed by my brothers here, they were still here, mocking me.

All of it was about my brothers. I just wanted them to stop! Being the seventh prince is not easy, you know. Your parents have had too many children to care about you, unless you're something special. I had seven brothers, six elder brothers, and one younger brother.

I was born five years after the sixth prince, and my younger brother was just one year younger than me. It was common knowledge, that the king and queen hadn't planned my birth though I was basically a golden child, golden eyes, golden-brown hair, golden magic.

But my parents didn't care about me. They didn't bother to ask me how I was, or even wish me a happy birthday. I don't even think at this point they even remembered my existence.

When I told them that I needed their consent to come to this training base, they didn't even bat an eye. The next morning, I had received the form with their signatures on it.  Only the third prince, my elder brother, tried to talk me out of it.

"Luke, you shouldn't do this, you will die." My level headed brother tried to reason with me.

I raised an eyebrow. With the fight for succession, he actually found time to even talk to me? "Adrien, you know that I'm not going to be the king. Even if I die, who will miss me? You? Your wife? No, your baby in Arabella's belly will miss me, right?" I scoffed, and walked away.

To turn in for the night, we were to provide for our own residence, at least till they declared the power match-ups and ranks.

I couldn't wait to know which one of the five hundred people was my power partner. I couldn't wait to fight with him!
