Annoyance.
It's a word that some people use lightly, while others see it as incredibly insulting. However, for some reason, it is an emotion that Gemini feels all too frequently. Her is stoic, calm, and sweet.. But if people knew how she really felt about sitting at a desk for 8 hours a day, constantly scanning the same paper over and over again, she would gain a one-week, unpaid suspension for unprofessional conduct.
However, if Gemini was allowed to express her feelings for her colleagues in a truthful manner, she would be instantly fired, without severance pay. Especially for one employee in particular. Her co-partner.
Crack, pop. Speak of the devil. Gemini grimaced.
As Leo stepped into the room, he ran his thumb over his fingers, popping each one with dedication and precision, he glanced around the room for a girl in a well-tailored pantsuit. When his eyes landed to his right, he saw her bright neon green glasses case that made him smile, and immediately took a seat next to her. He smirked when he heard an annoyed sigh go out the secretary's nose.
"Long day?" Leo questioned, trying to erase the stern, but cute, frown that rested on Gemini's face.
"No, not at all, why would you say that?" Gemini had been having a long day, but plastering a smile on her face seemed easier then taking hours and hours of her paid work day to explain just how absolutely frustrating it was too fax over nearly 200 memos using the raddy old copy machine in that back.
Leo's smirk faltered slightly at the fake tone in her voice that covered up fatigue and tension. He knew that her job was hard, and he wanted to provide some..comical relief to her day. And even though she pretended not to like it, he was dead-set on pulling out the playful side that he knew lies deep beneath her stone wall.
"Did you hear about the promotion the Boss is giving out? Heard that you're up for it." Leo stated smoothly, bending down to lift his briefcase onto the table.
"Yeah, I did, thanks. I think I saw your name on the list somewhere. Maybe you'd actually have a chance against me if you actually tucked your shirt in once in a while." Leo chuckled deeply and tipped the corners of his mouth up.
"Wow, isn't it too early for the claws to come out?" Leo could see Gemini restraining a smirk as well.
"Sorry, I haven't had my coffee this morning."
Their conversation was interrupted by a dark woman in tall heels walking up and nearly falling over twice due to her fashion choice. She was holding a huge stack of papers, looking down and scanning the small font.
"Gemini, I really need you to re-do these memos again. It seems the ink in the printer ran ou-". Her sentence was cut short as her eyes fell on Leo who was lazily splayed out on the chair, shirt untucked, and hair perfectly, positively swooped to one side. The woman seemed to quiver in her red heels.
"I-I..u-uh" she cleared her throat and tried to speak again, but it seemed that she was all of the sudden very dehydrated.
"Hey Capricorn, are you alright? Do you need some water?" Leo asked as he lowered his voice slightly to add a husky tone underneath. Gemini rolled her eyes.
The red heels seemed to fidget as they switched from pigeon-toed to a ballet dancer's first position, and Gemini saw blush dust her cheeks. Leo winked at her and that sent Capricorn into a giggling frenzy. Gemini sighed as she began to type away at her keyboard, already anticipating the amount of papers that Capricorn, her boss, has momentarily forgot.
Capricorn's laughter began to die down, and she regained her composure, taking side-glances at Leo as she continued her order, "Ha, huh, anyways, Gemini, these memos are completely ruined. You need to work overtime to reprint them tonight. The extra ink is on the counter in the corner." Capricorn handed one of the ruined memos to Gemini, and sure enough, the only imperfection on the memo was a couple of light colored 'e's and 'b's. Gemini silently exhaled, for she knew what kind of night she had ahead of her.
"Wait, Capricorn, babe, there isn't any mistakes here." Gemini stiffened as Leo looked over her shoulder to glance at the memo.
"Excuse me?" Capricorn arched her eyebrow.
"I mean all that's different is a couple of light colored letters where the ink ran out. I don't see a reason to make Gem work so late just to fix a couple of small misfortunes." Leo looked up at Capricorn, whose blush had already faded, and saw her eyes shift into a slight squint.
"Well, I see a reason." Capricorn pivoted on her vibrant heels and began to walk away.
"But Boss, don't you think-"
"Mr. Leo!" Capricorn interrupted him, spinning on her toe to look at the flirt straight-on, "would you care to join Gemini in the copy room later tonight if you feel so strongly about the issue?"
Leo was taken aback. Of course not. He wanted to go home, kick his feet up after a long day of work, and fall asleep watching his favorite TV series. He hadn't really planned on staying late tonight, he was pretty sure he had some friends coming over and-
"He'll be there ma'am, and he's sorry for the outburst," Gemini interrupted his thoughts, standing up suddenly with a respectful grin on her lips, "The memos will be replaced and translated to your desk the next morning. Have a nice night, and drive safe." She then turned and started to pack up her laptop and walked out of the powerful woman's office, Leo hurridley at her heels.
"Why did you do that?" Leo groaned, "I'm pretty sure I have a party tonight."
Gemini chuckled,"I just saved your job, so I believe a thank you is in order."
Leo wrapped his arm around her shoulders as they walked down the long hallway, "Are you positive that your motivations were strictly work related?" Leo smirked and Gemini scoffed.
"I'm positive I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Are you sure you didn't just want some alone time with your partner? I mean, we have been working together for a while, I can only assume what bubbly feelings have been brought up." Leo inquired, a flirty tone lacing his voice.
At that remark, Gemini swung in front of him and placed a hand at his chest, keeping Leo an arms length from herself.
"You and I have a strictly professional relationship. I see how the other girls look at you, and how you flirt with everyone in the office, leveraging their female hormones to your laziness. I, my good sir, will not be one of those girls. I have a life outside of this office that is completely separate from my work life, and you will never cross those lines. Capricorn was about to fire you, judging by the anger in her eye, and I wanted you to keep your job. Not because I care, but just out of pure human decency. I suggest you lift your ego from the front of your mind before tonight, or you and I will not be on speaking terms."
Leo froze, as he watched Gemini walk away from him in her perfectly tailored pantsuit. Then his mouth melted into a smirk.
Just you wait, Gem, Leo thought, I'll break you.
-- Later That Night--
Leo stared at the clock like a highschooler waiting to get out for summer vacation. The second hand taunted him as it seemed to only draw out the last few moments of his shift.
Tick, Tick, Tick.
He thought about tonight, how its was just going to be Gemini and himi, in one room, together, for the better part of an evening.
Tick, Tick, Tick.
Leo's teeth ground together in anticipation as his jaw locked in place.
Tick, Tick, Tick, Ding!
The muscular man pushed himself off his desk, sloppily pushing the remaining papers into a random drawer before sauntering off to the copy room. Muttering a few straggling goodnights, Leo flipped a switch. The white lights flickered before turning on completely, and he squinted around the small room. The walls shown a light grey, with a few counters, and a large copy machine that was under a small window. A small bottle of ink was set on top of one of the tables, and a spark of mischief glowed in his eye.
Steps echoed against the tile as Gemini appeared behind the corner. She seemed surprised that he was there before she was, but quickly regained her composure.
"Huh," she started, "you're on time for once."
"Well, a gentleman couldn't be late for his date. You look lovely by the way, is that a new pocket square?" Leo said, his natural charm twisting in his voice.
Gemini rolled her eyes, although Leo swore he saw the corners of her lips tilt upwards.
"You really don't need to be here you know," she said, her voice becoming gentle and soft, unlike the tone she held while she was at work. Leo liked it. "I've done these a million times over by myself. I'll tell Capri you showed up." Her briefcase was open, and she pulled out the near-tower of papers.
"No need, I want to get that promotion, remember? Might as well do some work."
She sighed. "Fine, then take half of these, please."
Leo laughed as he split the stack in two, "That rhymed."
"I'm a poet and I didn't even know it." Gemini replied with a smirk.
The tainted memos were sat down onto the table, and Gemini noticed a blue light blinking from the copier.
"It is actually low on ink. Capricorn may overreact, but at least she has some truth behind it."
She reached her hand behind her, keeping the front of her body facing the machine, "Do you mind handing me the ink capsule?"
Leo walked over and picked it up. He was about to hand it to her when his previous idea sparked into his head. He slowly, silently twisted the cap. The lid was attached to a dropper, which was already naturally filled with ink. He walked over to Gemini's outstretched hand, and pushed the contents out onto her palm.
Gemini quickly whipped her hand away when she felt something cold on it. She stared at the black puddle that had stained, and slowly turned her head to Leo, eyes widening with each second. Leo almost instantly regretted his decision.
She just stared at him for a second, eyes continuing to shift between him and the ink. Her face slowly lit up, and a few giggled escaped her lips. Leo smiled nervously, not knowing what the heck was happening.
Gemini snatched the ink from Leo's hand, and before he could stop her, she had dipped her fingers in it and flicked onto his left shoulder. The ink splattered, decorating his shirt with dark polka-dots. He turned his head to his shoulder, before more ink splattered onto his right cheek.
Gemini was full on laughing now, her sides aching from lack of air. Leo had never seen this side of her before. He looked at the carefree girl in front of him and couldn't help but smile at the difference from the professional she-devil this morning. He took the ink from her grasp and emptied most of the bottle onto her jacket. She shrieked, laughed, and went to grab the bottle from him again. But due to the recent puddle of black substance and her tall heels, she slipped.
Exclaiming in surprise and fear, she plummeted to the floor. She awaited the crash of the cold tile against her head, but it never came. Gemini felt arms wrap around her figure and keep her above ground. She opened her closed eyes and looked up to see Leo, relieved that she hadn't hit the ground. The girl blushed, but couldn't seem to take her eyes away from him as she tried to catch her breath. Leo's heart was pounding as let her get to her feet, steadying her. Gemini tried to get around him, clearing her throat to get rid of the awkwardness.
Gemini passed his side and went to grab the memos, when an arm grabbed her wrist and spun her around. Hands tangled in her hair as Leo's lips locked with hers. Her surprise was evident, but she slowly melted into the movement of their mouths, as she grabbed the collar of his shirt with desperation. Leo smirked into the kiss and moved one of his hands down to her hips. It elevated, as months and months of tension was released into one kiss. They soon broke apart, the need for air becoming too great.
Gemini walked around him, looking at her reflection in the window. Her low bun had plenty of stray hairs coming out of it, and there was a black spot on a certain piece of clothing.
"Dang it", she said, glancing down, "my new pocket square."
Leo chuckled and spun her around, pulling her in for round two.
Annoyance.
It was an emotion that was replaced with, as Leo would put it, bubbles.
