Chapter 12
Andrew's POV
Andrew kept his eyes on the wolf that was coming closer and closer to them.
God, help me save Anne.
"Don't run," he whispered to Anne without turning his head. "It will chase you."
This was the end. He was going to die. Anne was going to die. And no one would know about the children. no one could save them.
God, help us.
Then, he remembered something. The guards have a sword strapped to their backs.
Andrew spun around, breaking free of the guard that was holding him, and grabbed the sword handle and slashed at the guard.
The guard jumped out of the way at the last second. He turned to slash at the guards that were holding Anne, but they were already backing away, leaving Anne and Andrew between them and the wolf.
"Andrew." Anne's voice was urgent.
He turned back to the wolf, who was much closer now. The beast snarled, showing its teeth.
Holding the sword out in front of him, Andrew moved closer to Anne. "Get behind me."
Anne took a step back. The wolf crouched, getting ready to pounce at them. Instead of waiting for it, Andrew ran forward. The wolf pounced, and Andrew cut the wolf while it was in the air. The wolf fell to the ground and didn't move.
He spun around, preparing for the guards, who suddenly swarmed them. One grabbed Anne, and the other three started attacking Andrew. Two of them hit his sword with their swords, while the other grabbed his arms from behind. Then, a sword sliced through Andrew's shirt and cut his chest.
Anne struggled to break free from the guard, then went still.
"Let us go and we will leave the town," she said. "You can tell Arthur that we died and you buried us."
"We will run away and you will never hear from us again." Andrew added.
Of course they'd go to Dawnridge and come back with his father's army, and unfortunately, the guards knew that. But he was desperate. He had to save Anne and the children.
"What should we do?" one of the guards said to the others. "Arthur said not to kill them with a sword and we don't have another wolf to attack them."
"Why can't we just let them go?"
"Are you stupid?"
"You will get us killed." another guard said"
"Well, I don't want to stay out here all night with them."
"Maybe we can have our way with the girl," said the one holding Anne.
Anne kneed him and the man slapped her in the face.
"I will kill you!"
"You can't kill anyone. And I can do what I want."
"Arthur didn't give us permission to have our way with the girl," another guard said. "They're supposed to die with marks from The Beast."
"Then what do you say we do? Stay here in the woods all night and wait for someone to find us in the morning?"
"Lock them up in the mine and we'll send someone to Arthur to find out what he wants to do with them."
They pushed Andrew towards the entrance of the mine. His chest was bleeding, and he was pretty sure they broke a rib when they punched him in the stomach.
Anne's POV
Anne had to save herself and the children. And Andrew. She never thought she would have cared about saving him.
But how she was going to save anyone at this point was a mystery.
They made their way through the tunnel while the guard shoved them in the back to make them walk faster.
They ran into another guard, whose eyes widened when they saw them. She saw children sleeping on the ground with blankets wrapped around them. There were more now then they had seen earlier. The children started to wake up and stared at Andrew and Anne.
The guards were staring at them.
"I say we should kill them," one guard said. "Arthur wants them dead."
"But Arthur wants them killed by The Beast."
"Then we make it look like it was The Beast."
"And how are we going to do that? Are you about to grow fangs and claws?"
The guard took a step towards the other guard.
"Calm down." another guard said, stepping in between them. "We just need to send someone to Arthur and hear what he says."
Anne glanced at Andrew. He was eyeing a sword strapped to another guard's back. But the other guards were too close. If he stole the sword, he would be killed in an instant.
"Wait till the guards spread out," she whispered to Andrew.
He didn't answer. He kept staring at the sword.
Andrew's POV
Out of all the guards there, Andrew hated that grinned at Anne lustfully more than the others. If he was able to get a sword, he'd kill that one first.
The guards were talking about who they would send back to town and tell Arthur what happened.
Andrew and Anne had to escape. If he could create a distraction and then kill a couple of the guards maybe he and Anne could outrun the rest.
One of the guards left the mine, and the rest turned back to Andrew and Anne.
"Sit down!" one of the guards ordered.
Andrew glanced at Anne, who was already looking at him.
"Sit down or I'll give you to Travis."
The guard who had been eyeing Anne took a step towards them. Anne sat quickly against the wall, and Andrew sat besides her.
Travis continued to stare at Anne.
Andrew looked around for anything he could use as a weapon. He spotted a small pick used for mining sitting several feet away.
He could use that if he could reach it. He tried not to look directly at it so the guards wouldn't notice.
A/N: Once again, another short chapter, but I promise, I will make up for it in the next chapter.
What do you think about the story so far? And, what do you think will happen in the next chapter? Will Anne and Andrew die? Or will they escape?
Please message me if you have any concerns or thoughts about what I should add. Also if you have any song recommendations that you think fit Anne and Andrew.
