50~Ninety-Nine Bottles
(Friday, 5.55pm~ Endou and Kazemaru's house)
(Kazemaru)
I sighed as I walked through the door of my house, Endou hadn't finished work yet so I just decided to nap for a bit until he got back. I'd had such a tiring day, generally a stressful week in all and I was drained. Just as I was about to fall asleep my phone went off, sighing I looked at the screen. It was Fubuki. "Mm, hey Shirou, what's up?" I mumbled, my tiredness clearly evident in my voice.
"Hey Kazemaru! I was just calling to see if you were up for some fun tonight!" He said cheerily. I pulled a hand through my hair, loosening it a little. "What?"
"Well, Shuuya and I decided we would throw a little night out for everyone, in honour of the newlyweds, it's gonna be really fun, you two should come!" I sighed, running a hand down my face. "Aw Fubuki, you know I would but... I'm just so shattered right now, I'm really tired from work and all I really want to do now is just go to sleep already."
"Oh." He stated in disappointment, I felt pretty bad but I was just so tired, I didn't feel like spending a night out with my friends today.
"Well then, how's about Endou? I tried to call him but-"
"Yeah he's not here right now. I can ask him when he gets back, what time does it end?" I asked, I heard a small chuckle on the other end "Well, it's half-eleven 'til late so..."
"Well if he does decide to come, I don't reckon he'll stay long since he has to get up at five am tomorrow." I replied and pulled a hand down my face, yawning tiredly.
"...No, it doesn't look like they're going to be able to make it." I heard him say aside, presumably to his husband. "I'm sorry, really. Apologise to Genda and Sakuma for me eh?" He mumbled a reply and I sighed "Oh, I'll just see what Endou has to say first...Uh, we might see you there alright?" I said, and I could tell he was smiling on the other end "Yay! I'll hopefully see the two of you there then!" I huffed but didn't say any more, going back to my nap.
(Fubuki)
"That's a no from Suzuno and Nagumo." Shuuya stated with a slight huff of annoyance "Oh, how come?" I asked as he perched down next to me "Well, all that Nagumo said was that Suzuno wasn't feeling up to it; and that they want to spend time with their daughter." I nodded my head in understanding. "I keep forgetting they're parents now, more responsibilities."
"Same reason Afuro gave, said he's spending the night with Arata." I smiled inwardly at the thought of the happy couple we'd helped to set up, then frowned "I just hope Suzuno gets better though, I wonder what's wrong with him?" Gouenji only shrugged "Who knows?"
"Alright, who's next? Oh Hiroto and Midorikawa." I said to myself and dialled the green-haired one's mobile since Hiroto hardly ever picks up his phone, Gouenji walked off somewhere "Hey. Uh what's up Fubuki?" Midorikawa answered in a rushed manner, it sounded like he was somewhere pretty loud.
"Is this a bad time?" I asked, hoping I wasn't disturbing him on his commute home or something.
"Uh depends? What's up?" He answered before saying something I couldn't catch to who I assumed was Hiroto by the tone of voice. He seemed to quicken his pace. "Why does Narita have to be so big!" He stated exasperatedly.
Narita?
"Are you...getting a flight?" I asked, mentally crossing them off our list already. Midorikawa's voice seemed to perk up a little "Oh yes! Well if we can get to the gate before it closes that is!"
I smiled despite the fact that they would not be joining us on the night out, I figured it was best not to burden them with knowing about it. We could still have a fun night out without them. "Where are you two headed?"
"For a romantic weekend away in Latvia!" He beamed before seemingly finding the gate they were looking for. "Ah thank god! Ten minutes to spare. What did you want to ask me?" He questioned a little breathlessly.
I just shook my head "It's nothing, you two just go and enjoy yourself. I've never been to Latvia before, make sure to take lots of pictures!" I reminded them.
Hiroto's voice appeared on the phone "Will do. You want us to get you and Shuuya an omiyage?" He kindly offered but I declined "No, no just go and enjoy yourself! It's only a weekend after all!" I replied, though I knew he'd still probably bring something for everyone; Hiroto always brings back so many omiyages for everyone when he travels. He always brings me something sweet because of my sweet tooth- last time it was Bienenstich, Shuuya used to eat it all the time when he lived in Germany.
"Have fun you two!" I said and we exchanged goodbyes just as my husband walked back into the room. "That's a no from Hiroto and Midorikawa too, they're going on a romantic weekend away."
My husband sighed loudly, sitting down next to me and pulling me close to him "Lucky them. Paris?"
"Latvia actually?" I corrected.
"So it's; us, Tsunami and Tachimukai, Kidou and Fudou, Endou- possibly, Handa and Max and the happy couple?" He counted the number on his fingers.
"So much for our big night out..." I muttered.
(11.30pm~ Glow Nightclub)
(Fudou)
I walked into the bar, Kidou behind me. Looking around I spotted Sakuma, Genda and the others at a table near the bar, Fubuki waved us over. The newly weds looked pretty happy, so did Tachimukai, Tsunami and Fubuki, Handa looked like he wanted to be anywhere but here, Matsuno looked bored, Gouenji was being...well, Gouenji, there was no one else. No drunk Hiroto, no Endou, who was just as funny when drunk, not to mention Endou's drinking-buddy Nagumo and everyone else who was missing.
"You call this a night out? Looks pretty washed up to me, I thought we were all going to have some fun but-" I stopped abruptly at the look Kidou gave me, I sighed "Sorry, don't mind me, I'm just cranky because I've not had my cigarette yet..." I trailed off before sighing again, taking a seat at the table. "This all of us?" Matsuno asked quietly, Fubuki nodded solemnly and I huffed in annoyance before Genda gave me a bright smile, I suddenly remembered why I was here. "Well, at least Sakuma and Genda are here, and they're the ones we're all here to celebrate, cheers to the happy couple!" My friends smiled at me, Genda placing an arm around his husband and pulling him in for a kiss, everyone cheered. It was nice to see Sakuma so happy after so long.
"Well, who's starting off the round then?" Genda asked eagerly, Handa raised a hand in the air "I guess I'll start it off. Who's drinking?" He asked quietly, I shook my head "I'm driving so I'll stick to water thanks." I stated, crossing my arms and leaning back into my seat. Gouenji piped up "Same here." Handa nodded before looking over at Tsunami and Tachimukai. They both looked at each other, laughing slightly "Neither of us really drink and Tsunami's driving so I guess we'll just pass." Tachimukai stated, Handa nodding once more before getting up to buy the drinks.
Genda and Sakuma walked over to me as everyone else began to chat. "I know I've said this a thousand times, but congrats guys." I heard Kidou say from behind me, Sakuma smiled widely, arms wrapped tightly around his husband's waist. "It's you two I have to thank for that, if it wasn't for your support I probably wouldn't have married this gorgeous man here." He stated, kissing Genda on the cheek, I thought back to the day of the wedding, it hadn't seemed like we'd made much of an impact back then, but we obviously did.
Sakuma looked up at his husband "Koujirou, I love you so much, I don't know what I would do without you." He whispered.
"I love you even more." Genda muttered back and they kissed again. I wanted to kiss my boyfriend like that too, but I knew he would object; not only because he doesn't like public displays of affection, but ever since I picked up my old smoking habit again we don't really kiss anymore. I sighed but tried not think about it.
(Handa)
I knew it was a mistake coming here, ever since I stepped through the door. I hoped he hadn't seen me, but that was obviously wishful thinking.
"We really have to stop meeting like this." I shuddered at the voice, turning around to see a man that I knew all too well, smiling down at me.
"Ryuugo! It's so great to see you!" Fubuki said, walking over, Gouenji following. "Oh hi. Good to see you too." He replied back, shaking Gouenji's hand firmly. Fubuki hugged him tightly and smiled, I could see Someoka blush even in the dim light. Matsuno waved to him from his seat. I just waited patiently as the bartender poured out everyone's drinks.
"I didn't know you were back! I heard someone say you were at the wedding but I completely missed you it seems. You should have messaged me, we could've met up for coffee or something." Fubuki said with a slight pout and Someoka rubbed the back of his neck "Ah sorry Shirou, I meant to but I kinda forgot..." he replied, biting his lip a little. Fubuki grinned at him "Well at least you're here now. You should come and join us! Come have a seat!" Fubuki urged, trying to drag him over but he politely declined. I knew it was horrible, but I just wished he'd go away, I just didn't want to see him right now. The bartender finished up, pushing the drinks towards me. "You look like you could use a hand." Someoka said behind me. "I'm fine thanks." I replied dryly. He just laughed "Come on, let me help you-"
"I said I'm fine alright! Leave me alone!" I spat in response, he recoiled, a sad expression on his face, I lowered my head.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to shout at you like that." I mumbled quietly, he sighed, leaning on the bar "That's alright, I know I'm probably the last person you want to see..." I put the drinks down, turning to face him "That's not true Someoka-"
"But it is Han. You avoided me at the wedding and when I came over just to say hi, at the reception, you just completely ignored me. That really hurt Han, I know shit went down with us, but I thought we were still friends."
He looked at me gloomily, I felt terrible for the way I'd acted, but I just didn't know what to do. I really hadn't expected him to be there. "I'm sorry, I guess I was just in shock after seeing you after so long. I'm really sorry. It's just...been difficult for me..." I sighed heavily, avoiding his gaze "I get it. You need...some more time. It's not been easy, without you, but I'm managing I guess. Haven't quite got back into the dating game yet-though I doubt I ever will now. Unfortunately I'm doomed to be single forevermore." He laughed lightly at the end but it did nothing to hide his pain.
His eyes connected with mine "Handa, I won't stop saying it...I lo-"
"-Please don't. Not now. Not here. You can't." I begged, that was the last thing I wanted to hear from him. He leaned closer to me "But it's the tru-"
"-I...I don't want to hear it Someoka."
He looked down at his feet.
"Everything alright over here? Handa, the drinks?" I looked over to see Genda behind me. "Oh right. Sorry, here." I said, handing him his drink. He turned to Someoka "You staying with us buddy?"
"Uh no, actually I was just leaving." He replied, locking eyes with me. Genda frowned "You're leaving so soon?" Someoka just rubbed the back of his neck "I'm afraid so." Genda nodded in understanding, grabbing a tray for the drinks and carrying them all to the table.
"You...you don't have to go Someoka..."
"No, I really do, you won't be able to enjoy yourself if I'm there." He said. "Well, goodbye Handa...I hope we can meet up some day soon..." He placed a hand on my shoulder, his touch was as warm as I remembered.
He walked off, saying goodbye to the others before disappearing out of the door.
(Omniscient)
After Someoka left, Fudou left to have a smoke "I'll be right back Ki." He said, placing his hands in his pockets and walking out into the cool night air. Handa watched the other brunette disappear before walking back over to the group.
"I need some air." he stated, following Fudou outside, Fubuki looked at Max who just shrugged his shoulders.
"Hey." the brunette stated meekly, Fudou jumped at the sudden voice before sighing when he realised it was just Handa. "Oh, I was just about to light up so..." he trailed off but the other simply shrugged his shoulders "Doesn't bother me, I just wanted to get out of there..." Fudou raised and eyebrow before digging in his pocket for a fresh carton of cigarettes, he pulled one out before turning back to Handa.
"Why, what's gotten to you? Something happen?" Handa thought for a moment, he barely knew this guy-him and Max, they'd always seemed like they were outsiders compared to everyone else in the group-he couldn't trust Fudou with his secrets. "It's nothing." He stated and Fudou just chuckled. "No seriously, what is it?"
"Why don't you just mind your own business alright?" the brunette cut back in angry response, Fudou recoiled slightly digging into his pockets once more to find his lighter as a silence encapsulated the two.
Handa felt pretty bad about his outburst, after all, Fudou was only trying to help. He wasn't usually like this, but lately he'd been getting so angry. The lack of sleep didn't help.
He sighed and leaned back against the wall, glancing over at the other who was frustratedly turning out his pockets; gum wrappers, loose change, scratch cards and lottery tickets, littering the floor as he attempted to find his lighter. "Oh for fuck's sake, I didn't lose it did I?!" the taller man exclaimed, grip tightening on the cigarette in his hands.
"Uh, here. Have mine." Fudou looked over to see Handa pulling a lighter out of his pockets, he threw the small object to the other who caught it hastily. "You know what, just keep it. Don't know why I carry it around with me anyway." Fudou looked at him for a second, before just nodding and lighting up, he pocketed the item. "I didn't peg you for a smoker." He stated as he took another drag, Handa shrugged "I'm not. Well, not anymore at least." Fudou sighed, Handa obviously had much more willpower than him.
"I guess I was lucky. I was only on it for a little bit, it never really developed into too much of a habit, so quitting and staying off it was not too difficult." Fudou took another drag before looking down at his feet, fidgeting around nervously. "Were you with Matsuno during that time, how'd he take it?" He asked, thoughts on his own boyfriend.
"Uh, no it was before we started dating..." Handa replied, praying that Fudou wouldn't ask any more questions. The other only nodded in understanding before taking another drag. "I figured..." He began, stealing a glance at the other before continuing "That I would just go teetotal from now on-I've already got problems, I don't want to add being an alcoholic to that list. Then hopefully, I can tackle the smoking and gambling, and everything will go back to the perfect way it was before." Handa looked back at him, slightly confused at why the other was telling him all of this "Um, good plan."
The two stood around once more in silence. Fudou taking the occasional drag of his cigarette as Handa contemplated why his life had finally bitten him back for all of his past mistakes. "You ready to head back inside?" The slightly taller male asked, Handa nodded quickly, he was freezing.
The two stepped back into the warmth. Fudou was immediately swamped by his friends, who linked their arms with him and sung merrily-Genda clearly already quite buzzed. Tachimukai and Tsunami were cuddled up together in a nearby booth, the younger one looking like he could fall asleep any moment, despite the loud music. Gouenji was sitting next to Max, who smiled when he saw his boyfriend return. Fubuki was nowhere to be seen. "You were gone for a long time-you alright?" Matsuno asked, noticing how down his boyfriend looked. "I'm fine." Handa replied, sitting down and grabbing his drink.
"What round are we on?" The brunette asked, picking up the glass. Gouenji just shrugged "After you left, everyone just started buying their own drinks-it won't be long until Genda's dancing on the tables." He muttered with a small laugh. Handa tipped back the glass, downing half of it, Gouenji's eyes widened but he didn't say anything.
"Hey Han, wanna dance with me?" Matsuno asked; Matsuno, who any other person would think of to be quite shy and unsociable, was actually a rather outgoing person, he never really cared what others thought and hardly ever got embarrassed. "Come on, it'll be fun."
"I don't really want to." Handa replied but his boyfriend wouldn't listen. "Come on, you've been moping around all day, just loosen up already." Max said, pulling his boyfriend away to the dance floor where Fubuki was slaying it up, obviously having a really good time. They passed Fudou who was mouthing 'help me' to Kidou whilst being practically crushed by the combined hugging of a tipsy Sakuma and drunk Genda. "Guys!" Fubuki yelled over the music, half walking, half dancing over to them.
After a while, Handa finally managed to escape, walking back over to the table as Max and Fubuki continued to party it up. "Not your scene huh?" Gouenji said with a laugh, the brunette didn't reply, picking up his glass and downing the rest of his drink before immediately getting up to buy another one. The blonde locked eyes with Kidou who didn't say anything. "Kidou, I'm dying here, please spend some time with your friends before they hug me to death!" Kidou laughed and took over, detaching his drunk friends from his boyfriend before towing them off somewhere. Fudou sat down exhaustedly, just as Tsunami and Tachimukai walked over.
"Hey guys, Yuuki and I are going to head off." The pink haired male stated and Fudou frowned. "Sorry, it's just we're both really tired and we've got a long journey ahead of us." He continued and the others nodded, saying their goodbyes as the couple left. Fudou sighed before noticing Handa sitting alone at the bar.
"Why are you sitting up here for?" He asked, leaning up against the bar, Handa just shrugged and downed half the drink he was holding. "I think Gouenji's judging me..." He said in almost a whisper, finishing up his drink before ordering another one. The other gave him a look "Meaning?" The brunette sighed "I know it's a problem, I just didn't think anyone else noticed." The third drink came and Handa held onto it tightly, following the same pattern as before, ordering another one straight after. Fudou could see that one of his hands was shaking slightly.
"I guess we both have problems then..." He muttered just as a tall, muscular man walked up to them. Fudou thought the man wanted to order a drink and so moved aside, the man smirked, draping an arm around the other's shoulder. "Hey."
"Goodbye." Handa stated dryly, moving the other man's arm off of him. The guy laughed, putting his hands up "You're harsh, I was only saying hi!"
"Yeah, well I have a boyfriend." Handa replied, staring down into his glass. The guy let out another laugh before his eyes turned stern "My bad, I thought you looked like the easy sort, I guess not." He said, Handa bit his lip, grip tightening on the glass.
"I think you should go now." Fudou stated coldly, hand on the other man's shoulder. The stranger huffed, walking off. Handa mumbled a small thanks. "Heh, don't listen to that creep. He's just an asshole." Handa simply stared down at his drink. He'd been called the word too many times by Kaido, it still hurt him to hear it.
After the silent treatment from Handa, Fudou decided to rejoin the table, sitting next to Sakuma who had his head firmly planted on the table. "He alright?"
"Yeah just suffering from a huge headache." The blonde opposite stated.
"Why must the room spin?" Sakuma garbled, groaning and slumping over to Fudou.
Gouenji turned around, eyes trained towards the dance floor to where his husband was.
The grey haired male was standing in the very centre, another man leaning over him, one hand on Fubuki's shoulder and speaking into the other's ear over the booming music coming from the speakers. It was the same man the blonde had seen earlier, trying to chat up Handa. Fubuki was smiling happily and nodding 'What the?-' Gouenji thought to himself, there was no way he was letting that man near his husband. He shot up from his seat, practically running over to the other male "Shuuya! I knew my moves would bring you over here soon enough!" the shorter male giggled, pulling the two of them close. "Shuuya, this is-"
"I don't care who his is, just stay away from him yeah?" He replied harshly, Fubuki's face fell.
"He's obviously flirting with you and you're just standing there giving him all the attention he wants!" He said in a raised voice, Fubuki frowned. "Are you gonna let him talk to you like that Shimou?" The stranger asked, leaning onto Fubuki. He turned around, pushing the stranger off "First, it's Shirou. Secondly, butt out, no one asked your opinion." The man sighed, grumbling before walking off.
The shorter male turned back to his husband, crossing his arms before walking away, Gouenji following, calling his name repeatedly. "Where's Tsunami and Tachimukai?" Fubuki asked, glancing around the table. "Eh? They left like ages ago." Fudou remarked as Sakuma, who was currently asleep on Fudou's shoulder, stirred a little. Fubuki turned around to the blonde behind him "Why didn't you tell me!"
"Wha-"
"Why did you never even mention it to me!" Fubuki practically yelled and everyone was taken aback, Matsuno returning to see what the fuss was about.
"Why are you so angry with me all of a sudden Shirou?" Gouenji asked. His husband calmed himself down a bit, taking a few moments before speaking in a quiet, calm manner. "Because, Shuuya, I was having such a great time over there, enjoying myself and then you just had to ruin it by being all jealous. That is why I am angry with you." Everyone just stared at the couple. "I wasn't being jealous, I was just trying to protect you."
"I'm a grown man, I can look after myself."
"It doesn't matter if you can or not, it's my job to protect you."
"How come? What are you trying to say Gouenji?"
Gouenji bit his tongue, he shouldn't have said that. Fubuki repeated the question but was met with silence from the other. The shorter one sighed, turning back to the group.
"Okay so Gouenji and I will be leaving now." He stated calmly and grabbed his jacket. "See you guys, have a nice night." the ice blonde remarked before doing the same thing.
"Wait, you can't just leave!" Fudou whined but the couple just ignored him, walking out of the door.
"Okay, what the heck just happened?" Kidou asked, Fudou shrugged. "I've never seen those two fight....ever." Matsuno clarified, shaking his head, there was a small pat on his shoulder, he looked up to see Handa standing there, an empty glass in his hand.
"Can we go?" He asked quietly, glancing at Fudou momentarily.
"What, why? It's only like half twelve!" Matsuno protested.
"Please Max..." The look he gave showed that something was definitely up. "Fine, just wait and I'll book us a taxi." The ginger sighed before taking out his phone and stepping outside. The brunette looked into the bottom of his glass before sighing for the umpteenth time "I need another drink." He muttered walking back over to the bar.
"Mmm...I want...home..." Came a voice from Fudou's shoulder. "Yuuto, Jirou wants to go, I think we all better just leave already." He yelled, making the blue haired one wince and clutch his head. The other two walked over, Genda singing wildly about someone name Sue or something "Yeah, I'd say that's a good call. Come on, Fudou'll drive you two home." Kidou stated, attempting to make Sakuma wake up a little. "Don't...stay Ki...can't stay here..." Sakuma mumbled as Fudou tried to stand him up.
"I'm coming too Sakuma, God how drunk are you?" Kidou stated to the confused lump of Sakuma, Fudou laughed, Max walked back in. "Han, the cab's here-"
"-I told you to stay away from her!" Someone yelled, everyone turned to see the man from earlier, and a slightly shorter male. The shorter male pushed him back roughly, there was a yelp and then a smash sound.
"Handa!" Max yelled racing over to his boyfriend who'd just been knocked over when the other man was shoved.
There was broken glass and Handa was lying on the floor. The bouncers moved in to try and sort out the situation, Kidou and the others watching on.
"Han, are you okay?"
The brunette pulled himself up, leaning against the wall, he was shaking and his hand was oozing blood steadily. "Handa, bubi, I'm right here, everything's fine, I've got you." The ginger one said comfortingly, but Handa wouldn't stop shaking, tears pricked in his eyes. Max thought it was because he was hurt, but it was more than that.
At that moment Handa had remembered the only other time he'd been pushed to the floor like that. Everything came flooding back to him, the trauma, the crippling fear, the helplessness, the feeling of being trapped, the abuse he received at the hands of the one he loved. It all came back. He curled in a ball, finding it hard to breathe, he felt so alone, couldn't hear his boyfriend's voice anymore even though he knew he was there.
Fudou rushed over "Shit, what's wrong?" But Max shook his head, he didn't know, no one knew, the one person that did was at home watching Netflix by himself. "I-I don't know, I don't know what's wrong with him!"
"You'll want to get that hand looked at." Fudou remarked warily and the other nodded. The two of them helping Handa to his feet.
"Good thing I booked a taxi, looks like I'm spending the night in A&E." Max stated.
"Some night, this turned out to be."
Max knocked onto the taxi driver's window. "Hey, could you take us to the hospital instead? Thanks."
He looked back over at Handa, the brunette was still shaking.
"Keep your arm up above your heart, okay?" He heard Fudou say but he couldn't focus on him, he felt Fudou hold his arm up and start to wrap his hand up in some kitchen roll, but it was just all so fuzzy. Fudou cursed under his breath when the other didn't answer. He walked back over to Max "He's pretty shaken up, you want us to come with or are you okay with him?" He asked, Matsuno shook his head "Nah it's okay. The bleeding's not too bad, plus we're gonna have to spend hours in A&E anyway. You guys might as well go home."
"You sure?" Kidou asked, coming up behind his boyfriend, Sakuma latched onto him, a little quieter but still obviously drunk.
"Yeah, don't worry. I'll keep you updated." Max answered before noticing Handa walking over to him, a glazed look over his eyes. He was still shaking.
"Hey buddy, we're gonna go to the hospital in a minute." He said but Handa didn't respond. Max helped his boyfriend into the backseat of the taxi before waving at the others "Night guys." Fudou tapped his shoulder before he got in the car "Uh, he kept asking me to call...someone, seemed pretty upset." He said lowly. "Who?" Max questioned but Fudou shrugged his shoulders "Wouldn't tell me, he just kept repeating it. You should probably ask him." Max nodded his head slowly before getting in the car. 'Who could he want to talk to? Maybe Kazemaru?'
He turned back to Handa as the car started up, his boyfriend was white as a sheet "Does it hurt?" He asked simply, the brunette took a moment to answer before letting out a feeble "No." Max raised an eyebrow in confusion before shaking his head lightly 'Maybe he's just a little disoriented?' He deduced. He suddenly remembered what Fudou had said.
"Did you want me to call someone Han?" He asked, placing a hand on the other's shoulder. Handa flinched at the touch. "H-Huh?"
Max pulled his hand back 'He's still upset?' He'd never seen his friend like this before, it was really strange. "Fudou said you wanted me to call someone?" He questioned, Handa looked at him for a moment before looking at his hand "Oh." he only muttered, much to Max's confusion. Handa looked up suddenly, a panicked look in his eyes "Could you call him?"
"Call who?"
Handa seemed like he wanted to say something, but nothing came out. He shook his head, quickly reaching for Matsuno's phone "C-call... call-!" Was all he said, tears forming in his eyes. "Hey, hey what's wrong?" Max tried "Just breathe!" He said, trying to calm the other down. He unlocked his phone, heading to his contacts "You want me to call Kazemaru?" He attempted but Handa shook his head furiously.
"Okay uh..." he scrolled through his contacts before just handing the phone to the other. Handa quickly scrolled through one handedly before stopping on a name, clicking on it but hesitating over the call button. Max looked over "Someoka? You want me to call him?" He asked 'I guess those two are kinda close'. Handa nodded, not trusting his voice and handing the phone back, tears still falling from his eyes. Max called the number but it just rang out. "I suppose it's a bit late, he must've gone to bed." He muttered before looking at his boyfriend's face, he frowned, wiping the other's tears away with his sleeve. Handa didn't flinch away this time.
"M-maybe you could..." Handa began before stopping. They had reached the hospital.
It was as Max had feared. It was a Friday night after all, there were lots of people in A&E.
"Oh? Well hello again!" The nurse said when Handa was finally getting looked at. The brunette looked at her in confusion and she smiled at him "Sorry, I just never forget a face is all, I remember you well!" She said cheerily despite how clearly tired she looked.
"You were admitted here in....2015?" She said, looking at the patient notes "Fractured arm and sprained ankle. You said you fell down the stairs?" Handa didn't reply. "But you discharged yourself before we said you could, you mustn't do that tonight okay?" She warned, smile fading from her lips. She remembered him well, the way he looked, how he acted... She looked over at Max- he was a different man.
"You fell down the stairs?" Max asked, Handa nodded weakly.
"You never told me."
The nurse began to take some of the glass out of the brunette's hand, making conversation as she did so "You had someone with you last time, your friend- no your cousin-" She corrected but Handa shook his head frantically "N-no, it was just a friend."
"Handa doesn't have any cousins." Max added, still wondering why Handa had never mentioned the fall-even if it was a while ago-by the sounds of it it was pretty nasty.
The nurse looked up at Handa, staring into his eyes- he avoided her gaze. Suddenly Max's phone rang. He apologised before turning around and answering it. "Yeah? Oh you're on your way? I mean, you can if you want but they'll be done in probably the next 15 minutes anyway- oh! Well if you insist-"
"-Max?" The ginger man turned back around. "Who?" The brunette asked simply. "Someoka, I texted him that you were at the hospital, he's on his way down." He stated.
Handa's eyes grew wide "He's, he's coming now?"
"Yeah he's- oh? He says he wants to speak with you." He answered, handing the phone over to the other, but Handa didn't take it. He shook his head, struggling to speak clearly "I-I don't-" he looked back at his hand that was being disinfected. It was silent between the two. Max put the phone back up to his ear "Uh, he's a little-he'll speak to you later Someoka." He answered before hanging up the phone.
"Why? Why'd you tell him to-" Handa muttered under his breath, Max gave him a confused look "You told me to call him?"
"I-I didn't want him here I-" Handa began before his boyfriend interrupted him "I didn't tell him to come here I only said that you were-"
"Hey, Max is it? Why don't you get something sweet from the cafe whilst I stitch up your friend? I'm sure he'll appreciate something sugary after all of this." The nurse offered, noticing the growing tension between the two. Max did what he was told, not wanting to get into an argument with Handa.
"Sorry." Handa mumbled but the nurse shook her head "You don't need to apologise to me." She said as she began to stitch. Handa didn't say anything. "This guy that's coming..." she said, not looking up from her work "Do you not like him? Because he obviously cares about you if he's coming all the way for a simple hand injury." She looked up at him and he finally met her eyes "Correct me if I'm wrong, but Someoka, he wasn't the one with you last time?" Handa stared at her for a moment before nodding his head shakily. The nurse sighed before going back to stitching "That was your cousin/friend right?"
Handa didn't reply, the nurse carried on. "He said you fell down the stairs, that you had 'issues'." She shook her head, she didn't like the way he'd said it back then-she should've said something, she should have trusted her instincts about the two of them, she should've kept an eye on him. She looked back up at Handa, an understanding look in her eyes. "You didn't fall did you?"
"I-I did, I'm really clumsy." Handa whispered, a little shaken, staring down at the hospital bed. The nurse sighed again, she knew that was a lie, but she couldn't push him, she didn't want to distress him. Besides she couldn't technically take any action without his say so.
"Max, he's?..."
Handa looked up "He's my boyfriend." He answered, relieved the conversation was moving on. The nurse nodded "And this Someoka, a friend of yours?"
"Yeah..." The conversation was veering back into the territory that Handa really did not want to get into.
"You said you didn't want him here."
"I just...don't want him to make a fuss, like you said it's not a big deal just a few cuts!" He said, voice raising a little. The nurse nodded again. Her voice went quiet as she began to bandage up his hand "They'll look after you?" Handa raised an eyebrow in confusion before he was alerted to someone calling his name.
"Han!" Someoka said striding over to the brunette, Max trailing after him. "What the hell happened?" He asked, attempting to hold the other's uninjured hand, but the brunette swatted him away. "It was just a stupid accident, don't worry about it." Handa answered with a weak smile, Someoka did not seem convinced 'Everything's always an accident with you...' He shook his head "You gotta be more careful Han, seriously." Someoka muttered, Handa sighed frustratedly. "I just told you it was an accident- see this is why I didn't want you here, I knew you were just gonna lecture me."
The nurse stood up "Well, you're all set now Handa. It might be sore for a couple of days but if you follow the care instructions properly it should heal up nicely in no time!" She mused, bringing an end to the tense conversation. Handa thanked her and got up "Let's get out of here Max." He said tiredly.
"I'll call us a taxi." Max stated. Someoka shook his head "Let me drive you guys back, there's no point you waiting for a taxi." Handa stared at him but didn't say anything, too tired to argue back. "Oh thanks man!" Max answered as they headed out into the hospital car park.
"Max told me what happened. That you basically had a panic attack and wanted to talk to me. So why'd you act so cold when I got here?" Someoka whispered, leaning up against his car door. Max had gone to pick up something sweet since he'd forgotten to earlier. Handa sighed "Can you please drop it? I don't wanna talk about it." Someoka shook his head "I'm sorry I wasn't there." He said quietly, he wanted to place a hand on the brunette's shoulder, comfort him, but he knew he shouldn't. "I just hate seeing you hurt." He muttered, dropping his arms down to his sides, fingers just inches away from Handa's. The brunette looked at the ground.
"I'm sorry if it's coming off clingy I just-when I heard you got hurt I...I guess it was just...reflex. I only wanted to make sure you were okay." Someoka said. Handa kicked up some dirt 'Can you blame him, after everything that's happened?' He couldn't answer. Someoka moved away, Max was coming back. "It was reflex for me...and for you too..."
Handa stared silently out of the window the entire drive back.
