39~The Perfect Gift

(Thursday morning~ Endou and Kazemaru's place)

(Endou)
"Endouuuu." Kazemaru grumbled tiredly as he walked into the kitchen. His hair was in a messy bun and he was wearing a fuzzy peach jumper that had obviously been stretched in the wash too many times and came down to just above his mid-thigh. "What's up hon?" I said as he wrapped his arms around my waist and I kissed his nose "I don't wanna go to work today, I'm so tired...Besides, you don't have to go to work today, it's not fair I never get any time off!" He complained and I just laughed "Sorry baby, that's just the way teaching is. But look on the bright side, there's always tonight to look forward to." He smiled a bit and let go of me "Happy Birthday Kazemaru."

He scoffed "Ha, that just means I'm getting a year older, it's nothing special." He stated, popping some bread in the toaster. "Of course it is, today's an extremely special day for you, and I'm gonna make it perfect!" He just shrugged his shoulders before looking at the time and frowning "I'm gonna be late. Argh I'm going to get dressed." and with that he was gone.

I let out a breath I didn't realise I was holding 'that was close, I almost ruined the surprise then...' I thought to myself as Kaze's toast popped out of the toaster, scaring me a little. "Kaze you toast is- woah..." I stopped myself mid sentence as he appeared in the doorway; he looked...amazing. His hair was pulled into a low ponytail, he was wearing a crisp white shirt, with a black blazer, black chinos and deep blue tie, he looked at me oddly whilst grabbing a few folders from the table. "What?"
I just smiled "Sorry it's just, you look really good-usually you turn up in...more comfy clothes." I replied, choosing my words somewhat wisely for once.

"Well we've got inspections today so I want to make a good impression. Besides, are you trying to say that I don't dress well normally?" He said with a slight smirk and I just shook my head furiously. He chuckled "I'm only joking Mamoru. Uh I've gotta go, these English exams won't mark themselves!" He grabbed his toast before giving me a quick kiss on the cheek and running off. Yeesh, not too long ago that tiny remark would have turned into a full-scale argument - I never wanted to go back to that stage ever again.

I sighed trying not to think back to that dark period. I grabbed my toast before walking into the living room and plonking down on the sofa. Now I just had to wait until tonight.

(around the same time)

(Tachimukai)
It's so peaceful here, I can't really believe that I'm here, with Tsunami at that! It's like a dream come true-well almost...

I mean it's great here, I love being able to wake up every morning next to my boyfriend. Going down to the beach with him in the early morning when no one's around; holding hands as we walk barefoot in the sand-that's the best part. But then...other people start arriving and Tsunami has to leave me; I mean that would be fine if it wasn't for...yeah...the people he teaches.

Most of them are actual genuine surf enthusiasts, who actually want to learn, but then there are those who obviously just want to be there for Tsunami. I thought I would only have to worry about a few girls but there are even some guys here that are so obviously flirting with him-and they're all so good looking too, I don't need this kind of competition! So that leaves me; sitting building a stupid sandcastle all by myself like some lost child whilst I have to watch people getting way too close to my boyfriend! I hate it but there's nothing I can do-I know if I go up there I'll end up either saying or doing something really stupid.

"Yuuki." I was pulled out of my thoughts by my boyfriend's sweet voice. He looked at me and smiled "My first class is gonna start, aren't you coming?" I thought about it for a second before giving him a sad smile "Um, you go. I don't really feel up to it today." He frowned immediately "Awww, you won't? But it'll be such a long and boring day if you're not there!"
I blushed "M-maybe I'll swing by a little later okay, but no promises!" I stated and he smiled happily before running over to me and hugging me tightly "Alright!"

He left and I was alone again. 'Dammit, I really don't wanna go! But then I don't want to disappoint Tsunami either!' I sighed and walked out of our bedroom and into the kitchen, just as I opened the door I was attacked by Poppy. I jumped back in fright and tried to close the door again but Poppy bulldozed me down before I could do anything. Why do I keep forgetting about the dog? I swear, every day she just finds me, it's like she appears out of thin air! I know Tsunami said she's a softie but every time she sees me she pounces! She's going to give me a heart attack one of these days!

She's sure as hell gonna squish me to a pulp. "God what is Jousuke feeding you?!" I yelled as I tried to push the huge dog off me, but it was no use. She barked down at me excitedly and began to lick my face.
Ew ew ew ew ew ew ew

I tried to shield my face from her slobber or kissies as Jousuke calls them, but she still managed to get me. Suddenly Poppy got up, ears twitching to indicate something had grabbed her attention. She bolted away, barking madly and got up slowly, making my way to the kitchen and leaning up against the door, completely shattered. "I guess I'm eating in here then..."

I had to face her eventually though however luckily she seemed much calmer now and didn't attack me for once- that's a first. She was sitting on the floor next to the sofa, seemingly having tuckered herself out. I sat on the sofa gingerly, reaching down and stroking her head softly. She was pretty cute when she was docile like this.

I looked up at the clock, it was only 9 am. I still had a few hours to kill until lunchtime when I would see Tsunami. The remaining three hours were filled twenty minutes of trying to tame Poppy, ten minutes seeing how many times I could do a forward-roll on the sofa before deeming the activity pretty damn stupid when I almost ended up face planting the floor, ten minutes of being chased around the garden by Poppy which was so much scarier than I ever thought possible, fifty minutes of watching re runs of Takeshi's Castle, five minutes of being chased around the house by Poppy which was yet again way more scary than I thought possible, twenty-five minutes of completely failing at call of duty, followed by twenty minutes of completely destroying my whole team and subsequently getting kicked from the game, and finally forty minutes of going through the entire house and rearranging all the furniture only to completely go back and put everything back exactly the same as it was whilst trying to convince myself that it was time well spent.

"Tachimukai, you made it!" I heard Tsunami yell over at me as I just gave him a simple wave. "That's the end of the session guys, everybody go grab some lunch and I'll see you later!" He picked up his board and turned to face me, smiling widely "For a moment there I thought you weren't coming!" He placed a hand on my shoulder and grinned happily, I smiled back before feeling like someone was staring daggers into me. "You okay?" He asked concernedly and I quickly fashioned a smile back onto my face "Y-yeah, I'm good!"

He didn't seem convinced but shrugged his shoulders anyway "Hey Tsunami, my little brother wants to learn how to surf too." A girl who looked about seventeen said, she didn't seem too bad and she had a kind face about her. My boyfriend's face lit up. "Really? How old is he?"
"He just turned nine last week." She said and smiled at me "Sorry, I don't think we've met, I'm Yuki." She held out her hand to me and I was rather taken aback "Uh Yuuki." I replied and shook her hand. "Hey we match, that's awesome!" She said and my boyfriend smiled.

Tsunami nudged me slightly "He's my boyfriend."
I expected her to gasp or something but she just smiled.
"He just moved in with me actually!" Tsunami continued excitedly.
"Is that why you've been so happy lately Tsunami?" Yuki asked and I was surprised to hear that, even more surprised to see my boyfriend actually blushing! I smiled at her and she gave me a thumbs up before I was met with a load of angry stares from at least half of the group, all who looked like they wanted to murder me. I sighed but was stopped when I felt Tsunami's arm around me, pulling me into a side hug.

'Boy, this is gonna be a long day.'

(Back with Endou-2pm)

"Hello?"
"Yeah it's me."
"Oh hi Endou, what can I do for you?"
There was only a few hours until Kaze gets back, I needed to pull my plan into action. "Are we still up for tonight?" I asked and heard them sigh "I guess, though I still can't understand why you need my help, can't you do it yourself?" I pouted "Well I have to be with Kazemaru so that's not gonna work out, plus he'd be able to tell straight away if I tried to hide it."

"Couldn't you just get Gouenji or Hiroto to help you or something?"
"I tried but they both said they were too busy"
"-Then maybe you should have actually called me earlier to tell me that instead of at 3am last night?!" I rubbed the back of my neck, point taken. "Yeah I'm sorry Aki, I just didn't know what else to do."
"You owe me one Mamoru." She replied before her voice softened.

"Kazuya-kun and Dom said they'll help too."
"That's great! Oh yeah, how is Ichinose by the way?" I asked and heard Aki laugh "He's still reeling from yesterday's news I guess." My eyes widened "So you found out then?"
"Yep."
"And?"
She took in a breath before continuing "Twins. A boy and a girl."
"Wow, congrats! That's great I'm so happy for you two." I said and I could tell she was smiling on the other end.
"Yes but I haven't told anyone else yet so shh. Domon's even more excited than I am, he's insisting that we let the kids call him Uncle, but for now he'll just have to settle with being a Godparent." I laughed "Domon'll spoil them rotten you do realise that?" We talked for a bit longer, fixing up the final preparations for tonight before saying goodbye. This was going to be a perfect night!

(6.30pm)
"Kazemaru, we're gonna be late." My husband looked up at me from his pile of paperwork and frowned "Let me just mark these-"
"No Kazemaru, you've done enough work already. It's your birthday remember, you're supposed to be having fun!" Kazemaru groaned but eventually gave in, standing up and walking over to the door "Fine, let's go then."

It took quite a while to get to the restaurant due to traffic, which was good because the longer the better. "Name please." A smart looking man with a book asked us "Mamoru Kazemaru-Endou" I answered and the man looked at the list of names before spotting it, he gave me a polite nod and we followed him to our table.
"I've never heard of this place before." Kazemaru mused as we sat down. I smiled slightly-before Kaze and I were dating, this restaurant was where I worked part-time, I became pretty good friends with the manager, so she was quite willing to help me with my little plan.

It took a while for someone to come over and take our orders and Kaze was already starting to get a bit miffed, he kept looking at his watch and muttering under his breath, I held his hand reassuringly and he frowned at me. My plan was going pretty well.

"What's taking them so long?" It was a statement rather than a question and the irritation was evident in his voice. I looked at him sympathetically.
"I mean, we've been sitting here for an hour, everyone else has been served. Meanwhile, I still have twenty essays to mark for tomorrow morning! I don't have time to be sitting around here!" I tried to keep my mouth shut as much as possible, I knew that if I talked too much I would blow my cover, I'm not too good with secrets. Kazemaru looked at me before sighing "I'm sorry Endou, you're just trying to give me a nice birthday and all I've done is whine and complain. I don't mean to be so selfish it's just-"

"-Hey don't talk like that, if your not happy then I'm not happy. You're right, this is taking way too long, do you want to complain?" I smirked internally-if there's one thing I know that my husband hates, it's complaining. He waved his hands frantically "Hey there's no need for that! We could just...slip out quietly!"
"Would you want that? Should we just go?" He looked around a bit before looking back at me and nodding his head "Yeah, let's just leave."

(Kazemaru)

"Ah I'm starved. Endou can you warm up some rice or something?" I yelled as I locked the door. I was so knackered but I knew there was a ton of homework I had to mark-so much for my birthday...

There was no reply from Endou so I decided to investigate. "Hon?-" my husband was standing by the patio doors leading to the garden, the curtains were drawn and he had a smug look on his face. "Er, you alright?" He just smiled at me before opening the curtains, I gasped at the sight "Oh Endou! Is that?-"
"Why don't you take a closer look Kaze?" I walked forwards, still in awe, Endou grabbed my hand and opened the door, the cool breeze hit my face as we stepped out into the night.

The garden had been transformed. There were bright red lanterns that ran along the fence, a mass of pillows and blankets lay directly underneath the old weeping willow tree, which had been draped with pink and gold fairy lights, I spied a chocolate fondue pot along with strawberries and marshmallows which smelt absolutely amazing, the stars twinkled above our heads. It looked so magical. "My Prince." Endou said with a mock bow and I punched his arm lightly.

"When did you?-How did you?-" I asked completely astounded as he lead me over to the pile of cushions. Endou gave a laugh "Actually, I was the brains behind this, but Aki, Ichinose and Domon are the ones you should really thank, they set all of this up whilst we were at dinner." My eyes widened "So-" I was interrupted by the doorbell ringing, Endou smiled "And speaking of dinner..." He got up, returning moments later with piping hot food-it was exactly what we had ordered back at the restaurant! "Endou, how did you?!"
"I pulled a few strings, no biggie. Now, how's about a nice bottle of red to go with the meal?" He asked, pulling out a bottle of wine and two glasses from god knows where and handing them to me. "You're just full of surprises aren't you? Why are you doing all of this for me?" He looked at me and gave me a genuine smile, taking a hold of both of my hands "Kazemaru I'm doing this because it's your birthday and I want to make you feel special...But more importantly is...I've made mistakes Kaze, I hurt you and I'm sorry for that, I just want to make it up to you. I know the past few weeks have been pretty shit for the both of us, but I want us to start afresh you know?"

My eyes softened , he'd done all of this, just for me? I smiled, I was so lucky to have such an amazing husband. "Mamoru, this has been a pretty great birthday. Thank you." I said before placing my hands on either side of his head before connecting our lips together. I missed kissing like this, for a while it had seemed like we'd both forgotten how, but not anymore.

"I love you so much, Endou."
"I love you even more, Kaze."
We ate and drank and snuggled up together just gazing up at the stars, it was just so wonderful. "Hey Kazemaru, didn't you say that you still had some essays to mark?" I just snuggled closer into my husband's warm body and smirked "I'm sure the kids won't mind it being a day late..."
