23~All I have is you
Miyasaka had changed, he'd cut his blonde hair short and he looked a lot more athletic, lean. Endou almost didn't recognise him. He was still shorter than Kazemaru though.
He wrung his hands nervously.
"Miyasaka? What are you doing here?" Kazemaru asked, opening the door a little wider and letting the blonde in.
"Ichirouta...I'm sorry for not calling first, I was just so excited. I just got back from the airport last night and... well I happened to bump into Natsumi there and I asked her if she knew where you were staying since I lost your phone number a while ago so I had no way to contact you." He scratched his head awkwardly "I knew it was a long shot but it turns out she did know and she told me, she was supposed to call you to tell you I was stopping by."
Kazemaru's eyes widened. "Listen Kazemaru I just wanted to let you know that-"
"Oh fuck off!"
"Please Kazemaru I just-"
"No, just leave us alone!...Don't call me again, bye!"
The taller man sighed, going over to close the door behind Miyasaka "Yes, she might have said something like that."
The blonde's face instantly brightened up, he sighed in relief "Oh thank god, I was worried you'd think I was being a bit stalker-ish just appearing out of the blue like this!" He laughed awkwardly, the laughter flattening out after a while only being replaced with silence.
Endou gave his husband a confused look but the other just waved it off, 'I'll tell you later' he mouthed. Miyaska looked up at Kazemaru, biting the inside of his lip "...I'm sorry about...what happened Ichirouta, bailing like that, it's just-"
"-Why don't you come and sit down Miyasaka?" Kazemaru interrupted, guiding the other into the living room.
"I'll...go grab something to drink, coffee alright Miyasaka?" Endou added, heading into the kitchen. He didn't want to intrude on the two of them, he knew what went down between the two of them 'better give them some privacy' he thought to himself.
"Ah, no coffee please, water's fine!" Came the reply from the blonde.
"Ichirouta I-"
"-You said you came back from the airport? Where did you go? You just disappeared." Kazemaru interrupted again, his eyebrows furrowed with worry. Miyasaka blushed a little, taking a seat on the sofa next to the other, it had been years since they'd seen each other.
"Sorry, I meant to explain that." He began, wringing his hands again before becoming self-conscious about it and sitting on his hands instead. "I was in Russia. Training."
"Training?" Endou asked, entering the room with a glass of water and a mug of Peppermint tea. He gave the water to Miyasaka before handing the mug to his husband. Miyasaka watched them, a simple act which he soon regretted. "Yes I was training for-"
How did he not realise when Kazemaru first opened the door?
"-Wait are you two..."
Endou looked down at him confusedly before following his eye-line, he leaned back, looking at his wedding ring.
"You're married?" He asked meekly. Kazemaru nodded his head slowly "You didn't know?" He replied, a frown forming on his face.
It's not like they were keeping it a secret, their relationship was plastered across every social media platform they were a part of. How could Miyasaka not know?
"Well obviously not!" Miyasaka blurted, rising quickly to his feet, his cheeks a furious pink "Natsumi said you lived together but-"
He stopped. Actually, he'd ran off before she was able to finish her sentence, too ecstatic after finding out Kazemaru's address. 'She was probably trying to tell me that, I should have waited really...'
'Would you still have came if you knew though?...'
He looked back at Kazemaru, then at Endou "I think I... misunderstood the situation..." he said sheepishly. Endou glanced at his husbandly awkwardly but the other didn't say anything. The blonde gave another awkward laugh before looking down at the floor "This is all my fault. Maybe I should go..." he mumbled.
"Hey, no stay."
Miyasaka looked up, Endou was asking him to stay? "Endou? I thought you'd...you know what happened between us though? I thought..." he couldn't finish his sentence, he felt too ashamed. 'This isn't right, I shouldn't be here.'
"I don't care about all that." Endou said softly, sitting the blonde down gently. "This isn't about me."
"-But-" Miyasaka protested.
"You shouldn't leave things unfinished. It's not good to leave things up in the air without properly talking about it, it just makes things worse." He said, glancing over at his husband, Kazemaru gave him a small smile.
The brunette smiled warmly at the blonde
"I'm not going to get involved, I'm just going to let you two talk, okay?" Endou said gently before walking away.
'This is for the best.'
It was silent for a while after Endou left the room, Miyasaka wasn't sure how to begin, but he knew he needed to get his feelings out, vent, like Endou had said. Even if it was difficult.
"I guess now's probably not the best time to tell you the reason I came here was to tell you how sorry I was for leaving you, and that I still love you." He muttered. "We said we would just be friends but...every night I couldn't help but think of you and, what we had." he said, tears starting to brim in his eyes. He wiped them away, staring up at the ceiling "This is such a mess." He said, voice cracking. Kazemaru gave him a sympathetic look, hesitating before pulling the other into a hug. The hug was so warm, so comforting, but the blonde wasn't stupid- he knew it was nothing more than a hug from a friend. There was no spark there, even if he wanted there to be one. Kazemaru didn't feel the same way, and why should he?
'You treated him badly.'
'You don't deserve him, you never did.'
'You deserve this Miyasaka.'
"I did miss you you know."
"You're just saying that." The blonde replied with a sniff.
Kazemaru turned to face him "I'm not. I really did miss having you around, I missed your friendship." He answered truthfully. Miyasaka pulled out of the hug, looking up at his friend "I missed you too." He said quietly.
"You were so nice to me, even when I lost my temper and screamed and shouted. You pushed me to become better, be a better runner, a better version of myself. Though, I'd be lying if I said I didn't wish you could have done it with me." He let out a breath "I wish you hadn't given up running. You were so good at it, we all looked up to you..." His voice lowered "But you gave it all up to play football instead." He let out a sad laugh "I never understood why you did that Kazemaru."
Kazemaru sighed, he'd heard this already, from Miyasaka, from his old coach, even his parents were confused at the switch.
"You had such potential, you could have been great!" He hated those words.
"Well, that's just how it turned out." He replied curtly, not wanting to talk about the matter anymore.
"Looking back on it, I was kinda selfish." Miyasaka began, changing the subject. "I mean, I practically begged you to go out with me, even though I knew you didn't like...love me or anything. But no I just had to keep bugging you and bugging you and-" he stopped to take a breath, not wanting to get worked up. "Anyway, I'm sorry about that Ichirouta. I'm sorry about how I treated you and I'm sorry for just- I didn't think I'd be able to balance a relationship and school and training at the same time, it kinda overwhelmed me really..."
Kazemaru looked at the blonde with sympathy "I didn't know that, you should have said Miyasaka."
The blonde just shrugged his shoulders "I didn't want you to think I was weak, especially after how I bugged you to go out with me." He admitted.
"I'd never think that Miyasaka. You're not weak." The other stated, but the blonde didn't seem convinced.
"When I left you, when you went to university, I decided to take a break from social media for a bit, well actually a few years. I didn't want to get distracted, and more importantly, I didn't want to think about you, because I knew it would just upset me." He laughed awkwardly "That's why I didn't know that you two were..." he looked at the floor, continuing, his voice quiet. "When I went to university, I went to study sport science but I was more focused on actually running instead, so I dropped out after the first year and started training for real." He rubbed the back of his neck "I wanted to tell you, but I felt like... a bit of a failure? I don't know I thought you'd be mad at me or something, like my parents were..."
Kazemaru smiled softly, placing a comforting hand on Miyasaka's back "I'm not like your parents, I wouldn't have been mad at you."
"I went to Russia to train, that's where I've been this whole time. I was training for the world championships. I was gonna go Pro." He beamed, eyes suddenly bright and full of life, but the happiness left as quick as it had arrived. He laughed sadly "In the end though, I was only ever average, I could never compete with you back when we were kids and I couldn't do it now either. I'll never be as good as you."
Kazemaru shook his head "Don't say that, you can't give up."
Miyasaka gave him a sad smile "I thought about contacting you again. I knew if I did you could give me the encouragement I needed, inspire me. But I just couldn't do it, because I knew that the moment I heard your voice I wouldn't be able to control myself...
I thought it would be best not to. So I just pushed myself more and more to get better and better and... I ended pushing myself too hard. I got injured..." his voice began to shake again "A-and so now that's over I g-guess. And I thought 'w-well since that's it I might as well go back to Kazemaru' b-but... but you're-" He couldn't finish, his hands flung up to his face as tears fell from his eyes. "A-all those y-years w-wasted with nothing to s-show for it!"
Kazemaru closed his eyes, rubbing Miyasaka's back as he cried, he'd been through this before, with Endou. It was just as painful.
"What am I going to do now Ichirou? This is the only thing I've ever wanted! Tell me what I'm supposed to do now?!"
He didn't have an answer to give Endou then, and he didn't have an answer to give Miyasaka now.
"Shhh, it's okay, it's okay..." Kazemaru whispered to his friend over and over again, trying to calm the other as he shook with sobs. "It's going to be okay, I'm here..." he cooed gently, lightly stroking the other's hair.
"It'll all be okay..."
"Text me when you get home okay?" Kazemaru said to the blonde as he stepped out into the cold evening air. The blonde nodded, too exhausted to speak, but he gave the other a weak smile before turning away and walking down the drive. Kazemaru watched him disappear, leaning against the door frame for moment before finally shutting the door. Endou was sat on the top of the stairs. Kazemaru smiled softly, walking up to him.
"He's going to be okay." He said to the brunette, Endou smiled at him "I know he will, he's got you after all."
Kazemaru closed his eyes, holding onto his husband's hands and pulling them close together "And I'll be okay, because I have you Endou."
((Also, side note: did you know according to the wiki for IE, Miyasaka knows both sign language and Braille?))
