Chapter three- The Painful Truth

Cath looked up at Jest, annoyed how everyone came to her for answers.
"I don't know! My best friend turns out to be the Queen of Hearts and I didn't get to say goodbye to her, it's been three years and so many people have died!"
Cath buried her face in her hands and cried more.
Jest looked up at the castle, there was a graveyard around it, and so many gravestones were cluttering the place, he felt sick just thinking about how many people have died.
Cath looked up and saw there were many people laying on the ground outside the castle, she saw the Jabberwock not too far off, it was destroying a house, the house looked extremely familiar but she couldn't tell why. The house was on fire and she heard distant screams.
"Cath, isn't that your house?" Jest asked puzzled.
"Oh my gosh, it is!"
Cath got up and ran through the doorway and into Hearts, her gown trailing behind her.
Jest was not too far behind her, catching up to her to help.
"I don't understand why she always wears a long dress and heels, I mean she knew she would have to fight, right?" Hatta looked at Cath wondering why.
Hatta raced up to them and followed reluctantly.
----------------------------------------------
Cath reached her house in record time, she looked at the burnt house.
"We have to go inside, Jest!"
Jest was beside her panting, he looked up and realized the Jabberwock was nowhere to be seen.
"Cath, be careful, I don't want you to get hurt." Jest said with worry in his voice.
Before Jest could say another word, Cath ran inside her burnt house.
Jest reluctantly followed.
Cath searched around frantically, she heard soft moaning coming from upstairs, she ran up the dangerous steps and into a room.
Cath saw her mother laying on the ground.
"Mom!" Cath looked at her mother with sad eyes. "Jest! Jest get up here!"
Jest made it to the top without falling, he ran into the room and saw Cath's mother. Jest ran over to her and grabbed her in his arms, he quickly got down the stairs and ran out of the burnt house.
Cath followed behind Jest, when she got outside she heard and saw her Dad.
"Dad!" Cath ran to her father and lunged into a loving embrace. She could tell her Dad had been crying.
Jest laid Cath's mom onto the ground.
"Cath, is that really you?" Cath's mom coughed and attempted to breathe.
"Yes mom it is, now save your breath, your going to be okay." Cath didn't believe the words but she wanted to give her mom hope.
Jest grabbed Cath, knowing what might happen.
Cath's mom coughed again and struggled for a breath.
"Cath, before I leave I wanted to say that I love you." Another cough. "I am proud to see you as a grown girl, and I wish I could have been a nicer mother." Cath's mom coughed again and this time didn't take another breath.
Cath didn't get to say a word before she burst into tears and started screaming.
"No! Someone help her! Please she needs help, Dad, Jest, call someone!" She took a deep breath but let it out as a cry. "PLEASE!"
Cath fell to the floor and put her head in her hands, she let her tears run freely.
Jest bent down and picked Cath up, he held her close to him.
"Cath, it's okay." Though Jest barley knew Cath's mother, he felt saddened by her death.
Cath tightened her hands and hit Jest as hard as she could, Jest took her punches not saying a word.
"I didn't get to say goodbye." Cath sobbed into Jest. When Cath lifted her head, she saw that Jest's shirt was wet with tears. Cath didn't care, she continued to cry into Jest.
Jest looked down at Cath and felt the need to help her, but all he could do was hug her tighter.
Cath's Dad walked over to them and buried his face in Cath's hair.
Cath could feel her Dads tears in her hair.
Cath pulled away from everyone, not caring what they would do, she looked down at her dead mother, feeling like a helpless child.
Cath looked up in the distance and saw the castle, the very thing she never wanted to see again. But that was before.
Jest saw where Cath was looking, having known her for a little bit, he guessed what was coming.
"Cath, nothing could be done, we came too late." Jest told Cath, although she was not listening.
"One will be saddened."
Cath remembered the words that were spoken to all of them. Cath started walking towards the castle, but when Jest grabbed her wrist, she pulled away and ran. She ran away from the man she loved, from her dad, from her dead mother, from her burnt house. She didn't know what she was going to do when she got to the castle, but she ran anyways.
As Cath got closer and closer to the castle, she heard distant screams. She didn't dare look back. She had her eyes and heart set on reaching the castle, and nothing would stop her.
When she reached the castle she almost threw herself at the door. Cath did not want to open it, but she didn't care. She stared at the castle doors, there was a red heart on it and a sign that said, "enter if you must."
And she did.
She threw the doors open, not caring about who was inside. She heard footsteps behind her and looked back.
Jest was right behind her, panting and struggling to get air.
Jest caught up with Cath, and quickly said, "Cath, just because your best friend is the queen of hearts, doesn't mean you can just walk right in unannounced."
" I don't care who is the queen, my mother died and the queen and king obviously don't are about what is happening."
There were more doors and Cath pushed through them.
Inside the doors Cath saw Mary Anne, the queen of hearts, sitting on her throne.
Mary Anne looked down and eyed her suspiciously, then a look of shock swept her face.
"Hello Mary Anne."
The Queen looked down at Cath, the surprise was gone, but in its place was hate.
With a cold voice the queen replied.
"We meet again."

To people who thought Hatta was going to die, nope! It was Cath's mom. (I know, I'm so mean)
