Chapter four- Facing A Beast

Cath looked into the Queens eyes, she did not see the young girl who wanted to own a bakery with Cath, she did not see her best friend, but she did see the girl who had told Cath's parents everything, who had made Jest lie to keep Cath's "reputation" safe, she did see cold and hate in her eyes- and Cath felt the same way.
Before Cath could get a word out, the Queen suddenly smiled at Cath.
"Dear Catherine, how we have all missed you." When she said this, she opened her arms wide, gesturing to everyone in the room.
"Mary Anne." Cath bowed to the "Queen" though she smirked when she faced the floor.
"SILENCE" the Queen snapped at Cath for no reason.
Cath opened her eyes wide, astounded by the outburst of anger. "I-I'm sorry."
"Oh, we all know your not, isn't that right Cath? You ran away to chess with the "love of your life" for three years, you both returned married and each other's names carved into golden bands around your fingers. But what baffles me the most is that you have the nerve to come back and speak to me, unannounced!" The Queen said this all with a harsh and cold tone, clearly showing that she doesn't care.
Cath was about to speak up, but Jest was too quick.
"Yes, we are sorry for coming back, but we would like to speak to you about," Jest looked around the room, took a step closer and whispered, "the Jabberwock"
A few gasps echoed the room, and the queen looked more furious by the minute.
"Everyone, OUT!" The queens shouts where heard from everyone, and everyone ran, but Cath and Jest stood firm.
The Queen eyed them suspiciously, but did not say a word.
When everyone had left, she finally spoke up.
"What do you mean?" She asked through gritted teeth.
Cath gulped but did not want to continue speaking. She looked down at the ground and softly nudged Jest, who ended up speaking for her.
"Your majesty", Jest bowed deeply, showing that he was not afraid of the queen. "We would like to say that we found the Jabberwock attacking an unfortunate family."
Cath bristled at the last part. Unfortunate is right, my mother is now dead thanks to that stupid creature! It seems like no matter what fate I choose, I loose someone.
Cath looked at Jest, thankful he still had his head.
As Jest continued to speak, his hand found Cath's.
The queen stared at Jest with hate in her eyes.
When Jest wan finished, he took a step back and pulled Cath along with him.
The queens face softened for a moment, right before she screamed four words that could change everyone's fate.
"OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!"
Jest bent his head toward Cath's ear, his lips brushing her, she shivered in delight, but not from the words.
"Run." Jest whispered out through gritted teeth, and Cath obeyed her husband.
They fled through the doors and a hallway and more doors, and finally reached outside. Cath dared not to look back, she didn't want to see what could be their last time seeing.
Jest stopped outside, and looked around frantically, not knowing where to go.
"Follow me." Cath hissed in his ear. Cath grabbed Jest's wrist, hoping he would keep up with her, but she had forgotten how fast he was, and soon outpaced her.
Cath took a sudden turn and Jest stumbled, but was quick to follow her.
"Where-exactly-are we- going?" Jest asked in between breaths of air.
Cath had started to wonder why she always wore dresses and heels while on an adventure. "Just trust me."
Cath and Jest continued running, and eventually came to a place Jest could not see.
Jest stopped suddenly and looked around, "where are- AGGHHHHH!"
Cath whirled around to find Jest falling down a hole.
"Good, he found the entrance." Cath grabbed hold of the door and jumped in after Jest, thankful that she had grabbed the door, it swung shut, concealing them in complete darkness.
Cath soon caught up with Jest while falling, for she had plunged in, not fallen.
They were steadily falling towards purple light, the hole was small, only fit for one person to go down at a time, but Jest and Cath were both thin, so they fit snugly side by side.
As soon as they reached the purple light, the hole suddenly grew to a huge room, inside a hole, everything stopped, but they were still elevated.
Cath swerved out and grabbed Jest's hand, the momentum of her swerving knocked them out of the air that was pushing them upwards. Cath calmly stepped down from the air and landed on her feet, but Jest was not so lucky.
Jest toppled out of the spiral of upward blowing air- and fell flat on his face.
Cath was quick to help him up, and was brushing his hair out of his face when Jest interrupted her.
"What in Hearts was that?!" He whisper-shouted to Cath.
Cath pulled her hand away, suddenly aware of her husbands rage.
"That was a rabbit hole, the same one I fell down."
Cath and Jest turned towards a shadow, now aware by a presence.
"Great, people know we're here." Cath hissed into Jests ear.
Cath stepped forward but was pushed back by Jest.
"Quit babying me Jest, I know what I'm doing." She glared at him, but her glare was quickly replaced by a smile.
She stepped out again, and was not stopped.
"Um-hello, I am Cath and this is Jest, we were hoping you could help us."
The figure stepped out of the shadows, revealing a young girl, only thirteen or fourteen, she had on a blue dress and matching blue slip on shoes. Her hair was blonde and she had a light blue headband in.
Cath gasped at the sight of her, remembering the pictures they had seen.
The young girl replaced her stern expression with a smile. "I'm Alice, how can I help you?"
