Cʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ 3 | Tʜᴇ Aʀʀɪᴠɪɴɢ
As soon as our plane landed in Delhi, Sarah and I were escorted by the crew outside. While waiting for a few minutes for our luggage, Sarah started panicking, and I knew the reason.
"How am I looking? How's my hair? Makeup?" She asked me, looking all hyper.
"Will you stop it once?" I snapped at her.
I was worried already about my visit to Delhi because of Dad's strange behavior, and here Sarah is making it worse.
She doesn't really need to worry about her appearance when I know Dhruv is head over heels with her.
I know my brother likes her. And even Sarah does. Love? That I don't know. But they should set everything apart and get together. But who is going to make them understand? I just hope that they get together for the final this time. I am done being crushed between the two.
"You are looking absolutely fine, and let me just tell you that I do know the reason why you are panicking. " I said, giving her a smirk.
"Who said I was panicking with the thought of Dhruv picking us up?" She asked too quickly.
"And when did I mention anything about Dhruv?" I asked, grinning at her.
"Just stop that." She hissed at me.
"Stop what? I am just stating the truth." I replied innocently.
That earned me a glare from her.
We continued talking until the procedure was completed. I know for a fact that Dad is pretty cool and never worries about anything. He always sounds happy, but the last conversation was quite weird. Never has anything like this happened. I don't know if I am just overthinking or if it's probably nothing.
But I can't help with my gut feeling.
Minutes later, we got our luggage from the belt and headed towards the airport's exit.
Once reaching outside, I moved my eyes in every direction, and finally, my eyes caught Dhruv. He was standing outside, grinning like a idiot waving in our direction. This made Sarah and I laugh at him.
He started coming forward in our direction to meet us.
"Hey there, sis! How are you? Missed me?" He asked, hugging me too tightly for my liking. He has made more muscles for sure.
I slapped him away lightly on the back because I was sure I would be dead by the next five minutes if he continued doing this.
"Obviously idiot. You know I can't live away that long without irritating you." I replied with a teasing smile.
Dhruv and I have a 2 year age gap, so we're pretty close. It's a typical Brother-Sister relationship with us bickering back and forth, fighting like idiots and not being able to live separately for long. He's like my best friend. We used to hang out together most of the time before I went to Mumbai.
As soon as we parted, his eyes went towards Sarah, and both of them were lost in each others world, not caring about anyone watching them me being included. Another 5 minutes passes, but both of them, like the idiots they are kept on gawking at each other. After what felt like eternity, I coughed to gain their attention.
"Ah yes! Good too, see you, Sarah." Dhruv said, hugging her awkwardly.
Sarah being herself stammered. " Y-es, good to see you too."
I can't believe she's the same Sarah who is the biggest extrovert of the century when it comes to Dhruv.
"Okay, so we really need to go to our home now. Dad and Mom are waiting for us, and we'll drop Sarah at her parent's house on the way." He said.
"Sure, let's go. I am tired as hell and hungry, too." I huffed.
They just laughed at me.
We soon reached the parking lot where Dhruv's Mercedes was parked. I ran in its direction and jumped on the back seat. A friend has got another one's back for sure. I thought it'll be good for them to sit together.
Sarah looked in my direction, and boy, she looked angry.
I smiled sheepishly at her and shrugged my shoulders.
Leaving the airport, we headed towards Sarah's house, which was basically beside ours. We've always been living in the same neighborhood. But just like me, it didn't stop her from opting for my own startup business. We both have quite similar opinions regarding things.

Reaching our mansion dropping Sarah on her own, Dhruv parked his car at the driveway and led me towards the entrance.
My Mom and Dad are only the ones left for me for whom I try to live normally. They don't have any idea whatsoever has happened with me, and I am not planning to tell them as well.
My Dad is Arjun Malhotra, CEO of his company 'Malhotra Corporation'. It's one of the top 5 companies in India. And lastly, my Mom, she's a homemaker.
Entering the mansion, Mom came running towards me, looking all excited and engulfed me in a bear hug. She must be waiting for me in the living room. Mother instincts.
"My baby! How much I missed you past this month." She said, getting too emotional.
"Mom, relax let her breath." Dhruv exasperated.
"Oh shut up, I am meeting my daughter after so long, and you are telling me to relax." Mom scolded him, shutting him off.
"You know I couldn't come to Delhi because of the workload, but see, I am here now, and Dad has strictly told me to stay for longer this time." I said, smiling at her.
"I won't let you go back early either." She said happily.
"Speaking of which, where is Dad?" I asked her.
As soon as these words came out of my mouth, I heard someone shout.
"Kyra."
Turning around, I saw Dad at the top of the staircase smiling brightly at me. Running, I went towards him and hugged him tightly.
"I missed you so much, Dad." I mumbled in his chest while hugging.
"Oh, I missed you too, Kyra. But don't worry, we're going to spend every moment together this time, and I am not letting you leave anytime soon." He replied, chuckling.
"So I guess you and Mom have planned everything, huh?" I asked them, smiling teasingly.
"What are you talking about? How do you know? Dhruv!" Dad asked, horrified.
"What do I know about? I meant that you guys planned my stay in Delhi." I replied, confused.
"Dad, you can't imply everything on me. I didn't do anything." Dhruv said, clearly annoyed.
"Of course I can, I know how you can't keep your mouth shut." Dad said to him.
"I am your only son." Dhruv huffed.
"Shut up, both of you. Here, my daughter has returned after so long from a tiring journey, and you both are behaving like children, bickering back and forth." Mom shouted at them, which made me chuckle.
Both of them glared at me childishly and looked sheepishly at Mom.
"Now Kyra, go upstairs to your room and freshen up. I'll get the lunch ready in the meantime." Mom told me.
"But Dad, you told me you have something important to tell me. What is it?" I asked him.
" That can wait, Kyra. We'll tell you everything later, Kyra. Just go get freshen up." Dad replied.
"Alright."
With this, I went towards the direction of my room with Dhruv trailing behind me and annoying me the whole time. Upon reaching the door of my room, one glare from me and Dhruv went running towards his own room, which is on the other direction, not before shouting.
"Nobody respects me here." He literally sounded like a child.
Dhruv is a really good brother and a good person. He was always by my side with Sarah. He is a really successful architect with his own architectural firm and is always busy as he says. I just hope he proposes to Sarah soon. There's nothing as good as experiencing your best friend getting married to your brother. I think this might be his last chance as Sarah told me once some days back that her parents are trying to find a suitor for her. Sometimes, it's like I can't even deal with these both.
As I entered the room, a smile crept onto my face. I have basically lived here for 18 years of my life and do when I stay in Delhi. It has so many great memories of mine that even thinking about those, my heart swells with different emotions.

After freshening up, I walked downstairs and saw that all three of them were already seated in the dining room. Dad is sitting at the head of the family's chair while mom adjacent to him on the right side and Dhruv on the left side. I went towards them and sat beside Dhruv.
"Dive in fatty." Dhruv said to me.
"You're the one who eats like an elephant. Look at you getting fat day by day." I replied, giving him a sharp glare.
"This isn't fat, my dear. These are known as muscles. You see, down there, these are my 6 pack abs." Dhruv said proudly, pointing at his abs.
"As if." I replied, making a sour face.
The servants came and started serving us food, which Mom made specially for me, and I had to compliment her for such a good feast. I am sure I'll be gaining some pounds after my stay. While eating, we were generally talking about different topics as we never like to stay silent.
"How is Sarah doing?" Mom asked out of the blue.
"She's good. You know her family is finding a suitor for her to get married. They don't want to wait any further as they think it's the perfect time for it." I replied, which caused Dhruv to cough uncontrollably and me patting his back to relax him.
"That's good. She really needs a good match. I hope whoever her parents will choose is that she should be happy." Dad said.
"Yeah. Now, someone has to take a step forward when the other one is not doing anything about it." I said referring Dhruv.
"What do you mean?" Mom asked, frowning a little.
"Oh, nothing. I just hope she finds the love of her life. She has forever been single." I replied.
"But she's too young to get married. And what if the guy is not able to keep her happy?" Dhruv hissed.
"She is 26. And it's best for her to get married. She needs someone in her life. Can't stay alone forever, unlike you." I huffed at him.
"What about you, though? When are you planning to get married? You are already settled as far as the concern is about your career." I asked him.
"I don't think I'll be able to like anyone in that way." He said.
"Yes, you are right, Kyra. I'll start looking at matches for Dhruv. There are already many girls in my mind. My friends keep on insisting me for matchmaking their daughters with Dhruv. I'll look at those now. " Mom said excitedly.
"What, no, Mom." Dhruv said, horrified.
"Oh, shut up. You've recently turned 28, and it's the best time for you to get married. " Mom told him.
"Ladies." Dhruv muttered, shaking his head.
Both me and mom glared at Dhruv.

After the family lunch, we all were sitting in the living room chatting when I asked Dad about the fact which was bugging me since he called me.
"Dad, what was it that you wanted to tell me?"
"Kyra, whatever we are going to say, please don't think that we are forcing you or anything." Dad replied.
"What are you trying to say, Dad? I am not able to understand anything. Please just tell me everything clearly." I huffed.
"Arjun, you need to tell her everything now." Mom said sternly, and Dad sighed.
"Dad, what is it? You are really making me scared." I replied, worried.
"Kyra, you mom and I are getting older day by day, and we feel like completing the last responsibilities that we have in our hands. So this day had to come." Dad told me.
"He's right, Kyra." Mom added with a soft smile.
"But what responsibility is that such important to you people?" I asked.
"It's marriage."
No.
There's no way in hell
Marriage?
My marriage?
Never in this lifetime.
"We as parents would like you and Dhruv to get settled and proceed with your lives. It's the perfect time, my child." Mom said.
"You se-e that uhhh..." Dad added
"For the love of God, please tell me!" I shouted over.
"We have received a good proposal for you recently." And that's how Mom dropped the bomb on me.
