Cʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ 12 | Tʜᴇ Pʀᴏᴘɪɴǫᴜɪᴛʏ
Thought I saw you at a bar last night
Oh yeah, yeah, oh yeah yeah
Hid in the bathroom, I just couldn't stay high
Oh yeah yeah, oh yeah yeah
'Cause I took so much time to reset my life
But in just one look, I'm back
Forget that I could have any one I like
But now all I remember is what we had
Nobody, nobody, nobody compares to you
Somebody, somebody please help me get over you
'Cause it feels like I've been wasting my time
In all the wrong places, on all the wrong faces
Nobody compares to you
Nobody compares to you
Nobody compares to you...
Hearing this in the background, I could only think what had happened to me in these past days. Seeing him at the club, panicking myself, then this wedding proposal. And now this trip and his gestures.
We were still in the car with Ahaan driving in full speed, music blasting in the background wrecking my nerves.
The words stilled my heart, and yet Ahaan was acting calmly. It felt like he knew very well that nobody compares to him when it comes to me.
I didn't want to be in an awkward situation with him right now, so the best option was to pause it.
Reaching for the button at the stereo of the car, I tapped on it, and the song paused right there. With this, Ahaan looked in my direction with his eyebrows raised.
I raised my eyebrows back at him.
"Why did you pause the song? I was enjoying listening to them." He said.
Of course.
"I was starting to get a headache." I lied smoothly.
"Are you okay? Do you want me to stop? Or anything else? Maybe we should take a break -" He started rambling, and it was such a cute sight.
"Ahaan."
"Ahaan."
"Ahaan!" I shouted finally.
He stopped his rambling and looked at me.
"I am okay. There is no need to panic. It's just that I didn't get much sleep and we've been driving for 3 hours so I am not feeling that good." I stated.
"Are you sure?" He asked again.
"A hundred percent." I replied.
"So where are we going?" I asked, trying to start a conversation. I was really getting bored sitting here doing nothing.
"We are going to Shimla. So it'll take around 3 hours for us to reach as we've already completed 4 hours." He replied, glancing at me.
"Oooo, Shimla. It's been a long time since I've been there." I said, nodding my head a little.
"So how are the preparations going for the wedding?" He asks.
"Umm- I haven't even got to know any single about it except the date. So how will I know what is going on and how? Although I was looking forward to it." I said with a frown.
It's not daily that we get married.
"You want to indulge in our wedding preparations?" He asks astound at my words.
Isn't it normal for a person wanting to indulge in her own wedding preparations?
"Yeah." I replied, shrugging my shoulders.
"Good then, I'll soon make an appointment for the bookings and final arrangements with both of our consent. Although I'll be okay with whatever you decide." He. A genuine smile was there on his face.
I don't know why, but I smiled back at him.
Suddenly, it started drizzling, and it was such a good sight. Those small droplets of water dribbling on the windshield, it looked so calm. Opening the window, I looked around, and we were surrounded by high mountains everywhere. It looked so serene, and all I could feel at that moment was peace.
I took my hand out of the window where droplets of rain were falling one after the other. My hair was flying in the air due to the wind.
I felt my lungs inflate at the sight of the scene in front of me. The mountains, valleys, trees, wild animals, and then the droplets.

Looking at her direction, the first thing that crossed my mind was that she's happy. Happy because of me. She says she is happy and happy without me, but deep down, I know it's a facade she's keeping on.
How beautiful she looked enjoying the rain droplets falling on her palm, winds causing her soft, voluminous hair to dance in every direction.
Soon, the rain started pouring heavily, and it was quite difficult to drive, but I was able to manage.
"Kyra, just close the window. You'll get wet and catch cold. You wouldn't like that." I said, glancing in her direction.
"You're right." She sighed and closed the window soon.
Another 10 minutes passed, and the rain wasn't stopping, but only increasing. The curvy turned in between the mountains in the evening and wasn't making it any easy.
"Ahaan, this looks bad. I mean, just look at the weather. It keeps on worsening. Will you be able to drive?" She asked, looking worried.
"I guess so. But it's getting dark as it is nearing to evening. The worst part is the heavy pour down." I replied.
"Should we just wait somewhere for the rain to slow down?" She asks.
"I think I'll manage." I replied.
For the next five minutes, we were able to drive. Currently we were at the outskirts of a village and it was completely dark and our speed even decreased.
Suddenly the car came to a halt and I was trying to start it again, but it wasn't working.
"What happened? Why isn't the car starting?" Kyra asked, and I could tell she was nearing to panic.
"No need to worry. I'll just check it and see what's the problem and in no time we'll reach our destination." I replied, trying to calm her down.
Getting down from the car, I reached over the bonnet. Opening it, I noticed that there were some wiring issues. And the water reaching till the mid of my calfs was not a good thing either.
It seemed as if I couldn't do anything about it, so we were basically stuck in the middle if nowhere.
"Ahaan." I heard Kyra.
Looking at the direction of her voice, I found her already out of the car.
"What happened? Did you find the reason why it wasn't starting?" She asked as she stood beside me.
"Yeah. It seems there's some wiring issue, and the water level in the village isn't helping either." I replied, shrugging.
"So what now? Do you have any idea where we can find a mechanic?" She asked.
"Even if we get the wiring done, the car will stop again sooner or later due to the rising water level on the roads." I reasoned out.
I never expected the trip to go like this. I was thinking that it'll make our bond stronger when we'll spend our time in Shimla, but it seems that we won't even be able to reach there.
"Ugh! We'll see about that. Let's just go and see if we can find a mechanic here." She said.
I nodded at this.
Locking the doors of the car and securing it properly, we started walking in random directions, hoping it would lead us to a mechanic's shop or any other option.

We had been walking for 30 minutes, but we were still out of luck. This village looked barren. The houses, it seemed as if nobody was living inside them. Complete silence everywhere. We both could even hear each other's breathing from time to time.
Every shop was closed, probably due to heavy downpour. It was like we were wandering around in a deserted island.
"Ahaan." I heard Kyra.
"Yeah?" I said, turning to look at her as we both stopped walking.
"I am tired. I can't walk anymore. It seems like this village is neverending. Also we aren't able to find any solution." She huffed.
"You're right. But we can't do anything. We have no other option." I replied, shrugging my shoulders.
"Wait. We have an option. We can call Dhruv and ask him to pick us up from here." She said wide-eyed.
Dhruv. How could I forget? We can just complete the rest of the journey together in his car. Fishing out my mobile phone from my pocket, I dialed his number, but it wasn't even ringing. Confused, I looked at my mobile and noticed that there wasn't any signal here.
"There's no signal in my mobile." I said frustrated.
"Wait, I'll check mine." She said as she took out her mobile phone and started looking at it.
"Neither in mine." She said, and by the tone of her voice, I could tell she was annoyed.
Even I was annoyed. I didn't expect this to go like this.
"I think we should just look out for some shelter or anything. We are already wet, and it isn't helping standing here for nothing." I said.
She nodded her head.
Walking for 10 minutes, we were still out of luck. I was fine with walking for however it took to find anything, but it seemed Kyra wasn't.
"Tired?" I questioned.
"Nahh. I'll be able to walk more." She replied, and I could tell she was lying.
Scooping her in my arms by waist, she took it as a shock as a yelp came out of her lips.
"What?" I questioned.
"You can't just carry me like this." She looked agitated.
"I am your fiance. And I can do anything to please you and remove all your worries." I replied, unbothered.
Defeated by the situation, she hesitantly wrapped her arms around my neck and legs around my waist. It felt so good. It felt like I was complete.
Walking for another 5 minutes, I noticed some light coming off from a corner of the broken road in the village. Moving towards it's direction I noticed that there were a total of 3 men drinking and smoking.
Thinking they would at least know where we could find a mechanic or a place to spend the night, I stood in front of them.
"Excuse me, do you by any chance know a place we could stay for the night." I asked, trying to be polite, although it was killing me from inside.
Hearing this, Kyra moved her face away from my neck and looked at the commotion confusion evident on her face. Looking at my face, she raised her eyebrows, to which I nodded in order to calm her.
"Raju, look at the beauty in his arms. I just want to hold her against me and feel -" One of the men slurred, and the other two started laughing at his words while my fist clenched in anger.
I could even feel her shiver in my arms due to disgust.
She was squirming in my arms, and it made me even more mad that they were making her feel uncomfortable with their nasty glances and words.
"Don't worry, brother, we'll take her to our barn and spend a blissful night. We won't let the beauty go away under our eyes." The man whom I assumed to be Raju spoke.
Hearing this, all I could see was red.
Making her stand at the ground, I pounced over them and punched one of them directly at his jaw. I could hear his bone crack. The other was trying to pull me up while I was beating him. Pulling his hand forcefully, I kicked him in the stomach to which he fell down and did no movement, to which I assumed he passed out. The first one was already lying on the floor with blood oozing out of his nose.
"Ahaan!" I heard Kyra shout.
Turning back, I noticed that the third guy was holding her forcefully, and I could tell she was struggling.
Furiously, I reached out for him, pushing away from Kyra. I was fighting him, kicking, punching one after another. He was also trying to fight back as he tried punching me at my face. The end of his fist accidentally touched the corner of my lips when I was ducking down. It hurt a bit, but my focus was on beating him to pulp.
Punching him for the last time with all force, it resulted in him passing out as well.
Kicking him away from my view, I heard someone whimpering. Thinking that it might be one of the men I turned to look at them but all three of them were passed out with blood splattering around them.
Remembering Kyra, I looked around every direction and found her in a corner sobbing. Running, I went towards her and bent down at her level.
"Kyra." I said softly.
She still didn't look at me and continued sobbing and whimpering.
"Baby, please look at me." I pleaded.
As she looked in my direction, I noticed her eyes were red and cheeks puffy, possibly from crying. Her hair was disheveled, and it broke my heart to see her like this. I shouldn't have gone to these men in the first place.
She had her arms wrapped around her legs, which were touching her chest. She was continuously crying, and I was hoping she didn't get any panic attack at the moment.
Reaching out for her, I touched her arm, and she flinched in response.
"Baby, it's just me. Your Ahaan. Come here to me. I won't let anyone touch you ever again." I tried to calm her softly.
Sniffing, she looked up at me, and I could tell she was nearing to panic.
"Promise?" She asked, sticking her pinky finger out and lips quivering.
"I promise." I said sincerely, crossing mine with her.
"You won't hurt me, right?" She proceeded to ask.
How could she even think that I would hurt her physically? Those bastards deserved to get a beating after what they said and made her feel disgusted.
"Never. Now come here." I replied.
Hesitantly, she came over me and wrapped her arms around my neck. I stood up from the ground with Kyra still in my arms. Wrapping her legs around my waist, I held her securely, and she placed her head in the crook of my neck.
I could still hear her sniffling and crying quietly. Rubbing her on her back, trying to calm her down, I was back to walking in random direction.
Some time later, I found a godown. Thinking it would be better to spend the night here rather than in between some nasty strangers I moved towards it.
It was open, and after entering, I tried to find some source of light. Switching on every button I could find, finally a small bulb was glowing. We could manage with it for a night.
Looking around, I found out that it was completely empty. It's not a single thing present in here. There is no place where we could even sit.
I placed down Kyra from my arms, to which she let out a whimper.
"Hey, I want us to sit down here. You want to rest, right?" I asked softly.
She just nodded her head in response.
Sitting down at the floor, it was quite uncomfortable, but nothing I couldn't manage for a night. It would work for a situation like this. At least we were safe.
She also bent down for sitting by my side, but I pulled her over my lap. I want to make her comfortable at any cost.
Looking at me with her beautiful eyes, with her lips still quivering slightly, she traced her thumb at the corner of my lips.
I slightly winced as it pained a bit from the punch I remember the guy gave me.
She placed her thumb in front of my eyes. I noticed some blood from the cut on my lips.
"Why did you fight? You could've gotten hurt." She asked, and it surprised me that she genuinely seemed concerned.
All I could see was her plump lips moving up and down and the urge to feel them.
"I wanted to teach them a lesson not to mess with my girl again." I replied, shrugging.
She shook her head, and I could feel the faint smile appearing at her lips.
"What?" I asked, noticing she wanted to say something.
"Nothing. It's just that I never knew you could fight 3 guys at once. And turn a softy the next moment." She replied.
"You don't have many things that I can do." I replied, smirking.
"And here comes your cocky self back." She said.
I chuckled, feeling happy that I was able to make her forget the incident which happened before for now. I just want her to be happy at any condition and can do anything for her.
I hugged her tightly once as I wanted to feel her presence with me, and I felt her arms wrapping around me as well.
And soon, we were drifting away into much needed sleep, hoping we would stay like this forever in each other's arms.
