L. Heartbreak Weather

Prom ended way too soon but it was a night they would never forget. Especially Oliver, who made sure everyone at the after party knew that he was prom king . He got so drunk than he stripped himself of his tux shirt and jacket and left himself in just the pants, tie, and crown, of course. Odessa would blackmail him with videos of him dancing on Stingray's living room table for the rest of his life.

But today was the day of the All Valley and the lingering happiness of prom washed away for Odessa. Now, all she felt was fear. For two weeks straight, she had been training extra hard. Johnny was teaching her and Miguel the flying tornado kick. He said that her father was one of the only people he knew that was able to master it which fueled her to want to master it. She focused on her other skills as well along with Grayson and Hailey, who were both doing nunchucks.

She stood in the back room with the rest of the Eagle Fangs. She was a nervous wreck. She was pacing back and forth while biting her nails. "Odessa, what did we say about pacing back and forth? We can't afford you or Haikey to projectile vomit right now." Said Johnny.

She stopped pacing and nodded sarcastically. "That's very encouraging. Thank you. Surprised you didn't put it in a card." From the corner of her eye, she saw Miguel sitting on one of the benches leaning his elbows on his knees. She went and sat beside him. "Hey, what's got you down in the dumps?"

He have her a half smile. "Nothing, i'm fine." He lied.

"Did something happen? You were doing fine at prom." She continued.

"Everything's fine, Dess. I swear. Just a little nervous."

She frowned slightly but nodded. She patted his shoulder. Across the room was Devon, who stood by herself and she was clearly nervous as well. Odessa stood from the bench. "You okay?" She asked kindly.

Devon's eyes widened and she let out a fake laugh. "Me? Yeah, absolutely!"

Odessa smiled. "It's okay to scared, you know? I was terrified last year. But I had an amazing team to support me and so do you."

The girl's smile wavered. "What if I mess up? What if I'm not as good as I think I am?"

She shrugged. "Then you try again. There's no shame in making mistakes. You're human and this is your first competition. I'll be cheering for you whatever you do." She uplifted her.

Devon felt her nerves start to go away. "Thank you, Odessa."

Five minutes passed by and they heard Daryl announce Cobra Kai's name, meaning they were next. "And finally, this dojo is making their all Valley debut,  though you'll recognize a few familiar faces. Every year, a new dojo rises up the ranks.  Does this newcomer have what it takes to win it all? Please welcome. . . Eagle Fang karate.  Led by Sensei Johnny Lawrence and defending champion, Odessa Beaumont!"

The Eagle Fang dojo exited the back and smoke clouded their vision. Odessa felt a sudden leap of confidence as she walked out in her red and black gi,  her name being called out, making her feel powerful.  The crowd roared in cheers. The team jogged around the mat and stood in line a few feet apart from the Miyagi-Dos.

"At the end of the day, only one of these dojos came be crowned grand champion. Welcome to the 51st annual All Valley Under Eighteen karate tournament! It's karate time!"

Before the tournament started, each of the dojos huddled in their corners to prepare. Odessa glanced across the room to the Miyagi-Do's and she saw Eli already looking her way. He winked at her. Oliver looked over and saw the flirty interaction. He gagged and moved Eli's head back in Daniel's direction.

"Eagle Fangs, listen up," Johnny announced and gained their attention. "Some of you have been here before. Some of you, it's your first time. I still remember my first All Valley, where I stood here and I pummeled the ever loving crap out of my opponents as the crowd cheered."

"Hell yeah!" Grayson rejoiced.

Hailey half rolled her eyes and looked at him.

He backtracked. "I mean. . . ouch?"

"They tried to soften you up. That bullshit's behind us now. Remember what's at stake here, guys. If Cobra Kai wins, that means no more Eagle Fang. We're not gonna let that happen, are we?"

"No,  Sensei!" The students shouted.

"We have something Cobra Kai doesn't. A reigning champ," he said and pointed at Odessa, making her smile. "So, let's get out there and show them what we're made of.  Are you ready?"

"Yes, Sensei!"

He clapped. "Good, let's warm up! Diaz, a word." Johnny said to Miguel and they walked away out of ear shot.

Odessa shook her hands, trying to relax her nerves. "I feel like my heart's in my throat right now." She announced with a shaky voice.

Hailey held her ankle and pulled it behind her back. "Just remember you're defending champion. If you okay your cards right, it'll happen again."

She scoffed. "Yeah, right. I got lucky the first time."

"Hey, don't sell yourself short," said Grayson and he sat his hands on his hips. "You're one of the best we have. If it's not you, then it's Miguel. If it's not Miguel, then it's me."

When he was done, Haikey narrowed her eyes. "What about me?"

"Oh, yeah. You too, baby."

Odessa grinned and she looked over to see Johnny walk away from Miguel. He still had the same disappointment look on his face. She walked over and put a hand on his back. "Mig,  are you sure you're okay?"

"Yes, Dessi, i'm okay." He answered and he had a slight hint of hostility in his voice.

She frowned slightly. "Okay. . . but whatever it is, don't let it get to you, okay? I don't want you getting hurt." 

He smiled a sincere smile and wrapped his arm around her shoulder. He laid his head on top of hers and she was oblivious to the frown that fell on his face. 

After stretching and warming up, the tournament began. "Ladies and gentleman, it's time to begin our skills competition," Daryl announced. "Up first,  Demetri Alexopoulos from Miyagi-Do karate, who will be show casing kamas."

"Whoo! Let's go, baby!" Oliver shouted from the sidelines. 

Demetri bowed to the audience. He started his routine and it was nearly flawless. 

"Yes, that's what i'm talking about!" His boyfriend encouraged, clapping loudly.

Odessa grew more and more impressed as each skill went on. As she watched Cobra Kai do their skills, she was more than impressed, especially with Robby. It was clear that he had been training hard. His moves were clean and precise.

"Are you kidding me? What a way to start the skills
competition!" Daryl laughed into the microphone. "Clearly, Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang came to play. But with such a tight spread, it's still anyones game."

Eagle Fang was just under Miyagi-Do on the leadership board on number two. Cobra Kai was in fifth. It made Odessa feel a tiny bit better but she knew it was going to get harder. More skills continued such as kama, board breaking, and more.

"Up next from Eagle Fang karate, it's Grayson Hamilton performing nunchucks!"

"Let's go, baby!" Hailey cheered from her spot.

"Go, Hammy!" Shouted Oliver from the other side of the mat.

Odessa and Hailey held each other's hands as they watched him make his way to the middle of the mat. "Hai!" Grayson shouted. He twirled the nunchucks in his hands like a professional. He tossed them from one hand to the other and around his back. "Hai!" He grunted again. It was so fast that you could blink and miss half of the routine. It was amazing and his friends were so proud of him. He did a spin while twirling the nunchucks. To end the skill, he threw the nunchucks in the air with a hard spin and did a backflip, catching the nunchucks in his hand with ease. "Hai!" He screamed.

The crowd roared in cheers. "Yes!" Hailey shouted proudly and jumped up and down.

Johnny threw his fist up in victory. Grayson bowed to the crowd and exited off the stage. He broke out into a smile and almost dog piled on to his team.

"Wow, wow, wow, now wasn't that something l Daryl shouted when he ran back to the mat. "Absolutely incredible! Up next for Eagle Fang karate is Hailey Cooper, who will also be performing nunchucks! Oooh, battle of the nunchucks. I like it!"

Grayson looked at his girlfriend with a smirk. "Think you can beat that?"

"I don't have think anything. I know." Hailey answered with a slyly and walked onto the mat.

"Let's go, Hailey!" Odessa cheered for her best friend.

"Hai!" She fiercely shouted. She started off small, giving the nunchucks a small spin before it gradually got faster and she twirled it behind her head and back. Hailey swiftly passed it off to the other hand. It spun around her head like crazy. "Hai!" She shouted again. She threw the nunchucks up and did a spin kick before getting in her figuring stance and catching them quickly. Hailey started walking around the mat while twirling the nunchucks like it was nothing. Her eyes focused on them as she threw them over her head she caught them briskly. She ended the routine doing a quick spin and she tossed the spinning nunchucks up in the air, catching them in her hand with ease. "Hai!"

"Yes!" Shouted Johnny and more cheers erupted from the audience.

Hailey did a quick bow and flashed the crowd a  confident smile before walking off the mat. "How about that?" She said to Grayson.

Grayson rolled his eyes playfully. "I'll give it to you."

She jumped into his arms and gave him a sweet kiss. Odessa squealed and grabbed her hands, telling her how good of a job she did.

"I don't know about y'all but that was badass!" Daryl shouted into the mic. "This just keeps getting better and better! Now this one, i'm excited for! Up next is our defending All Valley champion from Eagle Fang karate, Odessa Beaumont, who will be portraying her flying tornado kick!

From the crowd, Thalia clapped her hands and cupped them around her mouth. "Knock ''em dead, baby!" She shouted. She was sitting with Carmen and Rosa.

Her team shook her by the shoulders and threw encouraging words at her. Johnny patted her on the back. "Make them eat crow, kid."

She smirked and the cheers followed her as she walk onto the mat. Miguel, Mitch, and Grayson followed behind her. They would be holding up the boards for her. The routine she practiced was having Mitch stand at the bottom, Miguel standing in the middle on a cinder block, and Grayson standing on two since he was the tallest. She would be attempting to kick all three of them down the line in one motion.

"Let's go, babe!" Eli cheered from his side and all of his teammates followed.

"Wipe the floor with them, Dess!" Shouted Oliver.

"Good to go, Dess?" Miguel asked.

Odessa sucked in a breath and shook her hands "Yeah, I'm good."

"Are you sure?" Grayson repeated his question.

"I'm positive."

Everyone watched carefully as they got ready. The three boys held up the boards in front of them. Odessa stood there for a minute and looked at Jonny, who nodded encouraging. She then found her mom in the audience and she blew her a kiss. Hailey and Bert who were practically clutching onto each other. She nodded to herself and then to the boys. She sucked in another deep breath. "Hai!" She shouted loudly. Odessa turned her body and looked over her shoulder, turning her front leg and pulled the other in front and jumped as high as she could go off the ground. Her leg going through all three boards with precision. She landed on the ground with a clean landing. "HAI!"

Everyone in the stands lifted themselves out of their seats. Thalia screamed and shook Carmen's arm out of excitement.

"Yes! That's my girlfriend!" Eli announced loudly and jumped up and down. "WHOO!"

Odessa's eyes widened and all the boys surrounded her in a group hug. "That was badass, Odessa!" Mitch exclaimed.

"I knew you could do it!" Miguel added with a happy smile on his face.

Grayson shook her by the shoulders and she smiled heavily. They walked off the sat and her team surrounded her with encouragement.

"Well how about that? This girl just proves she's the most badass girl in the Valley!" Daryl screamed enthusiastically.

From across the mat, the Cobra Kai's stared at the girl in envy. All but one, who was having to hide the grin on his face.

After more skills, it was Eli's turn. "Go, Eli! You got this!" Odessa shouted into her hands and the boy blew a kiss.

Nate got on Chris's shoulders and held the board he was holding high in the air. Two others boys stood on his sides and held the boards they had out in front of them. Demetri stood in front of him, holding out his board. Eli got in his fighting stance and punched through the first board with ease, shouting out loudly.  He throwing another punch at the one beside him and a side kick to the other.

When it came to the high kick, Eli threw his leg up but it wasn't strong enough to break through it. Odessa's smile dropped along with her hands that covered her mouth. She sighed sadly, knowing he was feeling embarrassed. The crowd groaned.

"It's okay, Eli." Oliver clapped for him anyway and patted him on the back when he came back to the team side.

It was like after his failed skill, other's started to fail as well. Mitch ended up throwing his stick and almost poking a judges eye out making the Eagle Fang's groan in disappointment.

They watched as Kyler was successful in putting his head through the cinderblocks. "There's nothing in his head. He probably can't feel them." Hailey insulted with crossed arms.

After a long while, Daryl ran back to the mat. "Alright everyone, the results are in!" He announced. "The winner of the skills challenge is. . ."  He took an anticipating pause. "Grayson Hamilton of Eagle Fang karate!"

Grayson almost fainted. "YES!" Hailey yelled at the top of her lungs and and jumped into his arms. His eyes widened in complete shock.

"That's my best fucking friend!" Oliver shouted from the other side of the mat.

"Yes, Hammy!" Shouted Odessa along with his team.

"Hamilton, go!" Johnny ordered but he had a large smile on his face.

Grayson put Hailey down and he ran to the mat. He took the trophy from Daryl and held it up in the air. "YEAH! WHOO!"  He screamed.

"That's my baby boy!" Thalia roared along with the crowd.

This time, Grayson did dog pile on his teammates and they jumped up and down joyfully. Johnny took him by the shoulders and shook him. Both of them yelling in each other's faces. Grayson just put them in the lead.

As the dojos continued their tactic speak, one of the men on the board of the All Valley tapped on the mic. Everyone turned their attention to him. "Ladies and gentlemen, the make and female division qualifiers are about to begin. And with that, we enter a new era!" He announced into the mic.

The audience cheered in excitement.

"That's why we ned a very special guest to kick things off!" He continued. "Let's give a big All Valley welcome to multi-Grammy award winning, international superstar, Carrie Underwood!"

Oliver went bug eyed as Carrie Underwood walked on the mat. "AHHHH!" He screamed at the top of his lungs. He grabbed Demetri and started shaking him while pointing at her. "It's Carrie Ubderwood!"

"IT'S CARRIE UNDERWOOD!"  Thalia screamed as well.

"I have a girl crush on her!" Hailey exclaimed and almost burst into tears.

Miguel looked Grayson with a questionable stare. He only shrugged. "They love powerful female singers."

Demetri was giving his boyfriend a crazed look as he almost burst into tears like Hailey and he shouted Carrie Underwood's name like he was at concert.

After the country singer gave an amazing performance, her voice sounding like an angel, Johnny came back to his team.  "Listen up," he said and they gathered around. "We have a slight conflict."

"Which is?" Odessa asked.

"We have an extra girl. There's nine boys and ten of you. That means one of you will have to fight an extra time." He explained while looking between the three girls on the team.

Odessa, Hailey, and Devon looked at each other, contemplating. Odessa raised her brows at Hailey. Hailey shrugged but then shook her head after. They looked at Devon who looked nervous at the question and all she did was shrug as well. Her and Hailey looked to Odessa and raised their eyebrows at her. She narrowed her eyes and titled her head.

All the guys watched them. Johnny was confused. "Is this a chick thing?" He asked.

"It's called girls intuition." Mitch answered. His eyes widened slightly. "I'm assuming."

"They're having a conversation. Just in their heads." Said Grayson. He had been friends with Odessa and Hailey for so long that he got used to their silent conversations.

Once they were done, Odessa raised her hand. "I'll do it."

Johnny raised his eyebrows. "Are you sure? You don't know who you'll be fighting,"

"I've done it before. It doesn't matter. I'll step in if I have to." She made her decision.

Hailey and Devon nodded, agreeing with her. Johnny nodded firmly and patted her on the back. "You've got it, kid."

The fights went on with each dojo gaining more points left and right. Odessa was winning her fights with ease.
Hailey and Grayson were kicking ass. Miguel was doing amazing and Devon was doing surprisingly well for it being her first tournament. Cobra Kai moved up on the leader board with Miyagi-Do following behind. Hailey had kicked one of the boy's she was fighting in the stomach, earning her a spot in the quarter finals with Odessa.

Miguel and Grayson were high on the leader board, along with Robby, Eli, Demetri, and Oliver. For the girls, Odessa and Hailey were the first two with Sam under Hailey.

"Alright folks. We've witnessed some great fighting today. But you ain't seen nothing yet. Because we have arrived at the quarterfinals!" Daryl started. "Which means things are about to get intense. But currently, we have eight boys and ten girls on stage with us. Which means one of these females will have an extra fight at the end!" He announced to everybody. The crowed ood in interest while the other dojos looking confused at who the girl was. "The female fighting an extra fight will be no other than Odessa Beaumont of Eagle Fang karate!"

Odessa looked behind her to see everyone starting at her. She felt the harsh stares coming from Cobra Kais.

"Of the eight boys and ten girls on this stage, one of each will be named the All Valley champion. And then, we'll try all the points to determine which dojo has earned the title of grand champion! And since the points get high in each round. . . it's still any dojo's game!"

"He is a really good announcer." Hailey whispered to Odessa.

The quarterfinals started with Miguel going first. He ended up winning his match by kicking the other boy in the face. Tory was up against Devon. She ended up kicking Devon in the face, earning herself a point but Devon was out of bounds.

"Are you blind? She was out of bounds!" Hailey shouted at the ref.

Tory and Devon continued their fight. The girl went to jump on Tory, but she grabbed her leg and dropped her onto the ground, hitting her in the face. Odessa sighed in disappointment. That was one girl down.

Devon walked off the mat and she was very annoyed. "It's alright. You did great out there today." Johnny encouraged her.

"I let her shut me out!" She yelled. "I should've focused in my low game."

"She's been at this longer than you. Don't feel bad."

"Oh, I don't feel bad. I only trained for six weeks. I'm going to stomp all of these weak ass bitches next year." Devon declared with confidence.

Hailey grinned and high fived her. "That's what i'm talking about!"

"Okay, Devon's out but we still have a chance," Johnny started to tell them. "Hailey, Dess, you girls got this?" 

"Oh, we got this." Odessa confirmed with a smile.

Hailey smiled as well but it was more evil. "As long as I get Tory."

Demetri won his fight with ease making everyone proud. "Newcomer Demetri Alexopoulos is heading to the semi's!"

"Yeah, baby!" Oliver shouted when Demetri got off the mat. He grabbed his face and kissing him.

Odessa turned around from where she stood and saw Kyler and the others saying something to Eli, making his face drop. She made her way over to her boyfriend as they walked away. "Ignore him. You're ten times better than he'll ever be."

Eli only gave her a somber look. "I don't know about that anymore." He muttered and his shoulders were slumped over.

She stepped forward and grabbed his hands. "I do. I know you better than anyone and it's going to take more than loosing your hair to keep you from kicking someone's ass."

He cracked a small smile but he still wasn't sure. Odessa grabbed his face and kissed him. Immediately, he felt every nerve and tense feeling wash away just by her touch. Her smalls hands cupped around his face and she pulled away with a smile on her face. "How do you feel now?" She asked with her brows raised.

"I don't know. I might need another to refresh my memory." Eli replied with a smug smirk.

She let out a laugh. "And there he is." She rubbed her thumbs against his cheeks. "I love you. You can do anything. I believe in you." She encouraged him and her words embedded themselves into his brain.

Eli's face was full of love and adoration.

"Is kissing a new confidence booster now?" Johnny asked his team.

Grayson looked at Hailey and back at him, nodding. "Most definitely."

"Next up in the quarterfinals, it's Kyler Park of Cobra Kai verses Eli Moskowitz of Miyagi-Do."

Kyler stepped onto the mat and cracked his knuckles while giving Eli a taunting smirk.

Odessa glared at him and looked back at Eli. "Kick his ass for me, will you?"

He smirked. "Anything for you."

She smiled and gave him another kiss for good luck before waking back to her team.

Eli sighed snd quickly put his game face on. His teammates patted his back as he walked past them. "Everything good?" Daniel asked him.

"Never better." The boy grinned. "I know who I am now."

"And who's that?"

Eli looked over his shoulder at his girlfriend. She was spaced out with her thumb in her mouth, biting her nail, until she saw Eli looking at her and she dropped it and waved at him. He smiled at her. He not only wanted to win this for her, but for himself. He looked back at Daniel. "The guy who's gonna win this whole fucking thing."

"Yeah the fuck your are!" Oliver hollered and shook his shoulders.

He hopped onto the mat with ease. His eyes locked with Kyler's as they met in the middle. When the referee yelled fight, Eli went in for a kick. Kyler lifted his arm in attempt to block but he elbowed him in the side, earning a point. He heard Odessa cheer his name from the sidelines. 

Kyler cursed under his breath and they got back in their fighting position. When they were yelled to fight,  Kyler charge at him but Eli quickly kicked his foot forward, making him fly over the bounds. They continued and Eli decked the boy in the face causing him to fly to the ground. Eli was the winner.

"Yes, baby!" Odessa shouted and jumped up and down in excitement. "Whoo hoo!"

Eli looked over at her and smiled victoriously. She had gained back his confidence. He felt like he could do anything.
