Derek had declared that Katie needed an emergency scanned, leading to the trio being outside the door as they watched the scan happen when suddenly Derek said "I'll be damned." allowing the technician to point at this screen, where the scan was being shown and dark spots could be seen and said "There it is." "It's minor, but it's there. It's a cerebachnoid haemorrhage. She's bleeding into her brain." 

The trio then walked away from the scanner and down towards the main next to the waiting area where Derek said "She could've gone her entire life without it ever being a problem. One tap in the right spot.." he trailed off, snapping his fingers allowing Cristina to finish "And explode." "Exactly. Now I have to fix it. You two did great work. Love to stay and kiss your asses, but I gotta tell Katie's parents she's having surgery."

They arrived at the desk where Derek asked for Katie Bryce's chart and the nurse gave it to him. "Oh, and Dr Sheppard, you said that you'd pick someone to scrub in if we helped." Cristina said, stumbling forward, Derek looked up at the two and said "Oh, yes, right. Um, I'm sorry I can't take you both, it's going to be a full house. Belle, I'll see you in OR." 

Belle and Cristina stand stunned for a moment before Belle said "Cristina should take my spot, she graduated first in all her universities.", "So did you." Derek countered, his eyes again on the chart, "She was the one who found out what was wrong with Katie." Belle pressed, "And you saved her life earlier, Dr. Howard, I chose you because you have been in this case and stayed in this case since the beginning, Katie had good things to say about you and so do I. It's not every intern that, with very little training can successfully save a patients life. Now I'll see you in the O.R." Derek countered before leaving. Cristina stalked off angrily leaving an indecisive Belle behind.

An indecisive Belle that walked room where most patients stay where the head of the hospital, Doctor Webber was asking the intern, who's name Belle had heard was Alex Karev, "She's still short of breath. Did you get an ABG or a chest film?" Alex, who had clearly not done either of those things said "Oh, yes sir, I did." The cheif, clearly saw through his lie because he inquired "And what did you see?" to which Alex replied "Oh, well, I had a lot of patients last..." his excuse, however, was interrupted by Webber saying "Name the common causes of post-op fever." 

Alex fumbled while pulling out a notepad from his pocket when the chief stated "From your head. Not from a book. Don't look it up, learn it, it should be in your head. Name the common causes of post-op fever."  Alex tried to think of the answer he clearly didn't know, making the chief inquire loudly "Can anybody name the common causes of post-op fever?" which makes everyone stop in their tracks and some even pull out their notepads, and as much as Belle was trying to keep a low profile she couldn't help but reply "Wind, water, wound, walking, wonder drugs. The five Ws. Most of the time it's wind, splinting or pneumonia. Pneumonia's easy to assume, especially if you're too busy to do the tests."

The chief gives Alex a pointed look before turning back to Belle and inquiring "What do you think's wrong with 4B?" "The fourth W, walking. I think she's a prime candidate for a pulmonary embolus." Belle replied automatically, her mind reeling back to her childhood when her mother would quiz her children in every area of science if they showed any interest in that area. "How would you diagnose?" Webber inquired, "Spiral CT, VQ scan, provide O2, dose with Heparin, and consult for an IVC filter." Belle gingerly replied making Webber say to Karev "Do exactly as she says, then tell your resident that I want you off this case."

He then walks closer to Belle and whispers to her "I'd know you anywhere, you're the ginger version of your mother. Welcome to the gang."
