9.0 The One Where She Agrees

Post Death
Pre Death

Elizabeth Jensen sat down at the breakfast table and looked at her brother. He wreaked. "Did you fucking shower?"

"I totally showered." Clay answered her, shoving a piece of mango into his mouth. Elizabeth raised an eyebrow, knowing that was not true at all. "I didn't shower." Clay sighed, and Elizabeth nodded.

"Did you shower last night?" Lainie Jensen spoke as she sat down next to her husband.

"Look, I just-" Clay began his speech, "I turned the water on just now, and I thought about it all, the whole thing, taking clothes off, dealing with hair, and I just- uh- I couldn't do it." Elizabeth furrowed her eyebrows, not knowing what he was going to say next. "Look, we shower everyday, and it's just a lot."

"Okay." Matt Jensen nodded, obviously very confused.

Lainie sighed. "Kids, I need to discuss something with you two."

"Oh shit." Clay cursed as he grabbed his stuff, standing up. "I'm meeting someone at Monet's for a school project." Clay was out the door when he shouted, "Love you guys!"

"There's definitely something going on with him." Elizabeth spoke softly as she placed her fork on her plate. "I'm finished."

Her parents nodded as she stood up. "No Justin last night?" Her mother asked curiously. Elizabeth shook her head before her eyes widened. "Like your father said, we're not stupid." Elizabeth nodded as she stood up and left the table.

Elizabeth walked down the hallway at Liberty High School. She saw Clay and Justin on the staircase looking as if they were having an argument. When Clay left Justin, Elizabeth went up to her boyfriend. "What was that about?"

"Nothing, babe." Justin smiled as he took Elizabeth's hand in his. "I just asked about homework."

"You guys looked like you were arguing." Justin shook his head, sending her a warm smile. Elizabeth didn't believe him at all.

"It's nothing to worry about." Justin smiled. "Here, let me walk you to class." He took a hold of the books she was carrying.

*

"There's a dance."

"Yeah. Saw that."

"How about you be my date."

"Justin-"

"Elizabeth-"

"No."

"Is that not your name?"

"No, it is." Elizabeth chuckled, nodding.

"Then what's the problem?" Justin smirked as he leaned against Elizabeth's locker, holding the poster for the Winter Formal.

"Justin, you need to stop." Elizabeth finally snapped at him. "I can't keep doing this every day."

"Then why are you?" Justin chuckled. "If you say you can't keep turning me down, then why are you still turning me down?"

"Because we can't. That's why."

"Why not?" Justin scoffed, resting his head against the locker. "You say you can't but you never give me an actual reason." He took her hands in his. "Just tell me the reason and I'll leave." Elizabeth looked into his eyes and then looked down at her feet. "You can't."

"I'm afraid that you're going to break my heart." Elizabeth finally spoke. "You broke Hannah's after a day. I can't imagine what you'll do to me."

"I won't hurt you, Eliza." Justin chuckled, moving towards her. "Do you think I've wasted all this energy for nothing?"

"True." Elizabeth sighed, leaning her head back in defeat. "Yes, I'll go to the dance with you," Justin smiled, "but not as a date." Justin's smile faded into confusion. "I want to really get to know you before I make any hard decisions."

"I'll pick you up at seven." Justin sent her a wink. "And, by the end of the night, you'll be wishing it was a date."

*

Elizabeth smiled as she looked at herself in her mirror. She felt good. She had a date.... well, sort of. But, that was her fault. She did want to go out with him, but after what she did to Hannah, she just did not know if she could trust him.

Elizabeth heard the doorbell ring. She threw on her heels and rushed down the stairs. "Honey, do you have a date?" Her mother questioned as Elizabeth grabbed her purse.

"It's not a date." Elizabeth shook her head. "We specifically agreed to that."

"Well, let me know if that's how it is by the end of the night." Elizabeth furrowed her eyebrows. That was almost the exact same thing that Justin had said to her after she agreed.

The girl opened her front door to reveal Justin Foley standing in the doorway with a corsage in his hands. Justin's eyes widened as he saw how beautiful Elizabeth looked. "Eliza, you look-"

She didn't even let him finish his sentence before shoving him out of the doorway. "Bye, mom!" Elizabeth shouted before rushing out. She turned to Justin. "Now, why the fuck did you get me this?" She chuckled, taking it out of his hands. "I thought we said this wasn't a date."

"We did." Justin nodded, putting the corsage around her wrist. "But every girl deserves a corsage." Elizabeth smiled as the two walked to the car. Justin moved to open the door for her, and she got into his car. "I'm not drinking tonight, just so you know." Justin spoke as he sat in the driver's seat. Elizabeth raised her eyebrow out of confusion. "I'm driving you home. I don't want to kill you on our first date." Elizabeth frowned, which Justin thought was adorable. "Right, it's not a date."

*

The two arrived at the dance, and people stared at them. Elizabeth looked down at her feet. "They're all staring." She spoke softly, turning to Justin.

"Because you look beautiful." Justin moved a strand of her hair behind her ear, and she smiled. "Now, let's get in there." Elizabeth nodded as she followed Justin into the dance.

Elizabeth saw Hannah standing and walked over to her. "Hey!" Elizabeth called to her, and Hannah turned. "You look fantastic!"

"Thanks, Eliza." Hannah smiled as she pulled Elizabeth into a hug.

"Who'd you come with?"

"Just Courtney." Hannah spoke, looking towards Courtney and her friends dancing together. "And her court."

"Ah, of course." Elizabeth chuckled.

"And you? Big date?" She motioned towards Justin.

"It's not a date." Elizabeth sighed as she moved closer to Hannah. "I'm here with Justin, and before you judge me, he's been bothering me for the past couple of weeks. I just had to get him off my back."

"Oh." Hannah looked a little taken aback. "That's fun."

"Hannah-"

"I should go join Courtney." Elizabeth frowned as Hannah left her.

"She can be like that." Elizabeth turned to see Jessica standing behind her.

"That's the reason I didn't want this night to happen." Elizabeth ran a hand through her hair.

Jessica grabbed onto her hands. "Hey, it doesn't matter what Hannah thinks. She'll get over it." Elizabeth nodded. "Now, you're date's waiting." Jessica smirked as she looked over at Justin standing alone watching them. Elizabeth smiled as she made her way over to Justin.

"How'd she take it?" Justin asked as Elizabeth approached him.

"Not well. I think she was more shocked than anything, though." Elizabeth furrowed her eyebrows as Justin placed her hands in his own.

"We're going to have a great time tonight, alright?" Justin smiled as he tried to change the subject. "I promise." He started to pull her onto the dance floor.

"You better keep that promise." Elizabeth giggled as she followed him, swaying her hips to the music.

Justin and Elizabeth's fun was interrupted by Bryce and his gang of hooligans. "Wow, Foley finally got Jensen." Bryce scoffed as he looked at Montgomery. "Now, he can stop complaining."

"Piss off, Bryce."

"Hey, you're staying in my pool house." Bryce smirked. Elizabeth cocked her head to the side in confusion. "I can say whatever I want."

"Bryce, we're having fun." Elizabeth frowned as she moved closer to Justin. "Could you please skedaddle?"

"Fine." Bryce chuckled, leaning towards Elizabeth. "But only because you asked so nicely, sweetheart." Bryce and his boys finally left the two.

"Let's get drinks." Elizabeth frowned softly as she watched them walk away.

Justin nodded. "Just to warn you, there's vodka in the red shit."

"Well, maybe I should test the waters." Elizabeth smiled as she walked towards the drink tables with Justin following close behind her. "Red shit you said?"

"Yup." Justin nodded as he grabbed a cup and poured himself some soda.

"So you're serious about the no drinking tonight?" Elizabeth questioned as she poured herself a glass of alcoholic punch. Justin nodded as he sipped his soda. "You're a good guy."

"I'm glad you finally see that." Justin smiled as he watched her carefully. "I've been trying to convince you of that for weeks."

"Well, you might have succeeded."
