61.0 The One With The Riot

Justin Foley walked over to his locker and saw Diego Torres leaning against the couple of lockers next to it. He ignored Diego as he opened his locker. Diego let out a chuckle. "You know, I could really never figure it out. Eliza choosing you over Zach." Justin rolled his eyes as he closed his locker. "I mean, you're a joke on the field, you're obviously a shit boyfriend." The boy left Diego alone, walking down the halls, but Diego followed him. "So, what does she actually see in you? Really?"

"Um- I don't have time for this right now, and I really don't think Zach wants you speaking out for him."

Justin turned the hallway, and Diego stopped before speaking. "But then I really figured it out."

The boy immediately stopped and turned to Diego. "What the fuck did you figure out, exactly?" Justin questioned him, raising and eyebrow.

"She's just protecting you because you did it. You killed him." Diego stepped closer towards Justin.

Justin shook his head, looking around to see no one else in the hallways. "You really don't know what the fuck you're talking about." He stepped even closer towards Diego. "But if I were you, I'd keep my fucking mouth shut."

A smirk appeared across Diego's face. "I'm going to get the truth."

"Yeah?" Diego nodded in response to Justin. "How, exactly?"

Diego looked down and shrugged before glancing back up at Justin. "I'll beat the shit out of you, and in front of Eliza if I have to." His eyebrows wiggled softly. "Though, something tells me you won't last as long as your boy Zach did."

Justin's face grew serious as Diego let out a soft chuckle. The Foley boy brought his hands to Diego's shoulders and pushed him backwards. Diego landed against the wall, his backpack falling onto the ground, and Justin slipped off his own backpack. Diego grabbed onto Justin and shoved him against the lockers, as Justin gripped onto his letterman jacket, trying to throw the boy off of himself. Justin let out a grunt as he flipped them around, and Diego's back hitting the lockers with a thud. Diego grabbed onto Justin's waist, trying to throw him onto the ground, but a Police Officer had arrived at the scene. "Hey, that's enough! Break it up!" The officer shouted, trying to tear them off of each other. He looked at Justin. "You, back to class." The officer, then, turned to Diego. "You, up against the locker." He shoved Diego against the lockers.

"Me? Why just me?" Diego's eyes widened as he moved forward.

"I said up against the locker!" The officer turned Diego around and pushed his face against the locker.

Justin frowned. "What the fuck, man? We were just talking!"

"I said back to class!" The officer shouted at Justin, grabbing onto Diego's wrists and pulling them behind his back.

"What the hell?" Diego asked from against the locker.

The officer began to pat Diego down. "Another fucking Mexican kid starting a fight?"

"I'm Dominican. What the fuck?"

"You can't say shit like that!" Justin furrowed his eyebrows as he tried to pull the officer away from Diego. "Get off him!"

"Back off!" The officer screamed, turning from Diego to push Justin away.

Diego turned and pushed the officer away, but the officer pulled out his gun, and pointed it at Diego. "Holy shit!" Diego gasped, throwing his hands up in the air. "Don't shoot! Please!" Justin moved away from the officer, putting his hands in the air, as well. "Put the gun away. I'll do whatever you want."

"Back up. Back the fuck up!" The officer motioned to the lockers before grabbing Justin and throwing him against the metal. "Up against the locker! Against the locker, hands spread!" The two boys stood against the locker, and the officer forcefully turned Diego around and threw his hands behind his back. Diego let out a panicked gasp as he felt the officer put handcuffs on him.

"Come on. He didn't do anything, man. Let him go!" Justin groaned as he stood against the lockers. The officer just ignored Justin. "Let him go!" He repeated, but shouting it this time.

Jessica Davis and Elizabeth Jensen had made their way to the front of the crowds to see both oof their boyfriends involved with the police officers. "Hey, what the fuck!" Jessica called out as she watched the officer throw Diego against the locker again. "What the fuck!"

Elizabeth let out a gasp as she heard the thud of Diego hitting the lockers, and then watched as the officer dragged Diego out of the halls. Jessica followed behind the officer, and Elizabeth made eye contact with Justin. She looked down, shaking her head. Of course, he had gotten into himself another fight. He could never control his own anger.
"Eliza, wait!" Justin called out as he watched her leave the crowd.

The girl made her way to the main entrance of the school where she saw Jessica, her brother, and a group of students in front of Principal Bolan. "There are innocent people being treated like criminals." Jessica explained to the principal.

"I'm told they were fighting." Bolan shrugged.

"That's bullshit." Jessica let out a scoff, crossing her arms over her chest.

Elizabeth moved next to her best friend, nodding. "It's not just them. It's all of us."

"Yeah!" Jessica looked over at Elizabeth and nodded before shifting her gaze back towards Bolan. "Presumed guilty? No charge? No due process?"

Students in the crowd began cheering, causing Bolan to try and quiet them down. "Alright, folks!" He spoke loudly. "The situation is being addressed. Let's get back to class."

There were many kids shaking their head and shouting, as Jessica spoke for all of them. "No!"

Elizabeth noticed Justin had appeared next to her. "Can we please talk about everything later."

She looked up at him raising an eyebrow. "You just keep making things worse for yourself, Justin." She let out a scoff. "Pretty soon I'm not going to even want to talk about everything with you."

"Do not make matters worse." Bolan pleaded to the Student Body President. "Get back to class."

Jessica looked over at Clay Jensen, who was next to her, for help. Clay shook his head, stepping forward. "No. We're not going back to class."

"I promise you all we will get into this." Bolan spoke to the crowd, trying fix the situation. "Diego's being released. The officer will be disciplined if appropriate." The students began booing. "And we will address the situation according to-"

"Fuck that!" Jessica spoke, cutting the principal off. "Enough is enough!" The students shouted in agreement.

"Fucking right!" Elizabeth smirked, looking at her best friend.

Principal Bolan let out a sigh. " All right, I understand your point without all of the inappropriate language."

"Fuck you, motherfucker." Clay narrowed his eyes at Bolan. The kids around him cheered. "We're together on this."

"Everyone, get back to class right now, or there will be consequences."

Elizabeth shrugged. "I already got into college, so I don't really fucking care about your consequences."

Clay made eye contact with his sister, and they nodded at each other. "We're finally doing something."

"Doing what, exactly?" Bolan raised an eyebrow. Jessica and Clay turned to each other before glancing back at the door. They looked back at each other and smiled. They both turned, beginning to walk towards the exit. "Tu- Turn around." Bolan stuttered, nervously. "No- No, turn around!" He shouted as he watched all of the students exit the school. "What do you think you're doing?" He called out to the teenagers.

Tyler turned back around to Bolan. "I believe it's a walkout, sir." He, then, joined the students and left the building.

As Jessica and Clay made their way out, they began to speak quietly to each other. "Just to be clear, I don't actually have a plan." Clay stated. "I'm kind of following your lead."

"Me? I though I was following you."

They stopped walking when they reached the edge of the sidewalk, and saw Elizabeth walking towards them. "If you two don't have something figured out, then please think of something, because like fucking everyone followed you guys out." Elizabeth spoke, motioning to all of the teenagers walking out of the school.

Tony Padilla stopped walking when he reached the other, and turned. "Yeah." He nodded. "It's kind of a thing." Justin moved next to his girlfriend, trying to take her hand, but she quickly pulled it out of his grasp.

After ten minutes of the students standing outside, Diego joined them. "What the fuck are we doing?" Her questioned Luke Holliday. "Are we just going to stand here, or are we going to do something?"

Luke turned to the rest of the teenagers. "I say we break some fucking heads!" He shouted, causing some students to cheer.

Cyrus stood up on one of the picnic tables. "Or we could use our heads, cut the power to the school." He suggested. "Maybe light some shit on fire."

"Yeah!" Many kids cheered.

Ani Achola made her way out of the school and towards her friends. "Let's hear what our president has to say."

"Shit, I thought you took off." Jessica smiled at her friend.

"I had to make a stop at the cave." Ani chuckled, handing Jessica the HO megaphone. "Go!"

Jessica let out a sigh, taking the megaphone. "Hey, everyone!" She called out, trying to get people's attention. "There is a lot we can disagree on, but I know we can all agree on one thing. We're pissed off, am I right?!" She shouted, causing the students in the crowd to cheer. "Because shit has got to change around here, so let's make damn sure it does today. You guys with me?"

The students cheered again, before one student spoke up. "We need a chant!"

Ani smiled before cupping her hands around her mouth. "Hey-hey, ho-ho, SROs have got to go!" She screamed.

"Hey-hey, ho-ho, SROs have got to go!" All of the students repeated several times, as Jessica led them onto the street.

They stood on the side walk on the opposite side of the school, shouting this for five minutes before Principal Bolan and Dean Foundry came outside. "We're asking for the removal of all SROs on this campus and all security measures." Jessica spoke to the men in charge.

"That means no more cameras, no more metal detectors, no more Stop the Bleed demos, and no more drills!" Clay stated from beside her.

"We want out school back!" Jessica finished for Clay.

Dean Foundry shook his head. "It's more complicated than that. We're complying with state laws."

"Laws designed to help these kids stay safe." Bolan continued.

Jessica let out a scoff. "Then the laws are bad, and you should break them."

Clay stepped forward. "When the videos of today hit the internet, do you want the world to know you did nothing?"

Eventually, police officers armed in riot gear came and stood in front of the students along with Bolan and Foundry, blocking them from the school. The students had stopped their chant by then. "I guess we have their answer." Clay sighed. "Jesus, how do Bolan and Foundry expect us to go back inside with all of that there?"

"They don't want us back in there anymore." Elizabeth shook her head as she stared at the police officers standing in front of her. "They just want us fucking gone."

"This is the Evergreen County Sheriff's Department!" An officer spoke, using the microphone from inside his vehicle. "You have two minutes to vacate the premises or you will be forcibly removed." The students bang to looked around, not sure what they should do. "Two minutes!"

Clay moved closer towards Jessica. "I mean, I'm ready for a fight, but Jess, they have guns, and we've got nothing."

Jessica glanced over at the officers before smiling. "That's not entirely true." She shook her head. "They trained us for this moment."

"What's the plan?" Isabel Henry questioned Jessica, finally finding her friends.

Jessica turned to the group, telling everyone to start throwing everything they've got at the officers when the two minutes were up. Elizabeth stared at the lineup of cops in front of her and raised up her middle finger, smiling slightly. The officer spoke again from his car. "Time's up!" He spoke over the microphone. He moved to the rest of the officers, and Principal Bolan and Dean Foundry walked inside the school. "Officers, please proceed."

The officers in the riot gear stepped forward, banging their sticks against their shields. "Stand your ground!" Jessica shouted over the megaphone, watching as the officers moved closer. When they were closer enough, Jessica brought the megaphone to her lips, screaming, "Now!" All of the students began chucking absolutely anything they could find at the officers, catching them very much off guard.

Elizabeth watched as Estella De La Cruz made her way up to the officers, pushing at their shields, and one of them grabbed her and took her bebind the lineup of cops. "Let me go!" She screamed.

Ani held up her empty backpack. "We're out of ammo."

"Yeah." Elizabeth nodded, looking around her. "What should we fucking do now?"

"We fight." Jessica spoke before lunging herself at an officer.

Isabel shook her head as she watched Jessica. She grabbed onto her, pulling her away from the officers. "You can't get arrested!" She screamed. "You need to protect yourself, Jess."

"I don't fucking care anymore." Jessica shook her head before pushing another officer. "Fuck you!" She shouted before spitting on the officer's face.

"Don't, Jess!" Isabel watched as the officer shoved his shield into Jessica's stomach, causing her to topple over in pain. Her eyes widened before she lunched at the officer. "You fucking asshole!" Jessica was, then, grabbed by an officer and taken behind the lineup.

Elizabeth threw herself against the shield of an officer, trying to push them to the ground. The officer kicked her shin, sending her to the ground. She thought she heard a crack. "Fuck!" She screamed as she grabbed onto her leg.

"What the fuck is wrong with you!" Justin shouted at one of the officers, trying to pull Elizabeth off of the ground. He picked her up bridal style and carried her out of the way, near some of the cars. "How bad does it hurt?" Elizabeth looked up at the boy, and her noticed her tear stained cheeks. "Alright, so that's pretty fucking bad."

"I think I might have broken something." Elizabeth whimpered as she looked down and saw her ankle sticking out in a place it was not meant to. "Yeah, I definitely broke something." She sighed, leaning her head against Justin's chest.

Justin ran his hand through Elizabeth's hair. "This is all my fucking fault." He spoke, kissing her hair. "I started that fight. If I weren't so hotheaded all of the time, this would not have happened to you."

"Justin, stop." Elizabeth shook her head as she looked up at him. "It's not your fault. This is all on Bolan."

"I love you so fucking much." Justin frowned as he wiped away her tears. "I'm so goddamn sorry about everything lately."

"It's okay." Elizabeth smiled softly. "I love you, too."

Elizabeth and Justin noticed students running past them, and then saw Clay standing up on a car. "Hey! Hey, hold on!" He shouted through the megaphone at the students running away. "Don't run away from this. Listen to me!" The teenagers stopped running to listen to Clay. "Look, they're going nob try make us think that we're the problem, but we are not the problem! We go to the school that they built for us. We live in the society that they made for us, and shit is broken! Shit is wrong!" Students cheered in agreement. "And they can't fix it. They won't! So it's our turn now. We're going to make it right if we have to burn it down and start over. So I say fuck it all!"

"Fuck, yeah!" A teenager in the crowd shouted in agreement.

"We're fighting!" Clay continued. "Who's with me?" The students cheered. "Fuck it all! Fuck it all! Let's go!" He screamed as he jumped off of the car, and ran back over towards the officers, with all of the students behind him.

Elizabeth tried to stand up, but Justin shook his head as he pulled her back down. "I want to help!" The girl frowned.

"You can't, okay?" Justin pushed a piece of her hair behind her ear. "You can't fucking walk."

Isabel began to push at an officer, before he tackled her to the ground. Diego came running at the officer, and pushed him off of the girl. "Thank you." Isabel spoke as Diego helped her up.

"Yeah." Diego nodded as Isabel turned to leave, but he stopped her. "Why couldn't she get arrested?"

"What?" Isabel questioned, not being able to hear him.

Diego stepped closer towards Isabel. "Why is Jessica the one that couldn't get arrested?" Isabel let out a sigh, looking down at the ground. Diego's eyes widened as he figured everything out. 'Jesus, it's her. Not Justin." Isabel opened her mouth to answer, but Diego got toppled to the ground by a police officer. The girl frowned as she left him, trying to find Jessica.

As Justin an Elizabeth sat out of the way, they heard Alex scream, "Fire! Fire!" as he tried to move Charlie's unconscious body. "Everyone move!"

The pair noticed a car that was on fire, maybe twenty feet away from them. "Fuck!" Justin yelled, picking Elizabeth up and trying to carrying her out of the way as fast as possible. When the car exploded, he and his girlfriend fell to the ground.
